The country of Scotland is located in the north of Great Britain and borders England in the south. There are over seven hundred islands off the coast of Scotland which also form part of Scotland and include the Hebrides and the Shetland Islands.

Scotland is a cultural tourist’s heaven with thousands of historical sites to see. From churches and abbeys to castles and whiskey distilleries, Scotland has it all. Natural sights such as Loch Ness, Loch Lomond and Ben Nevis are also popular tourist attractions. The capital city of Edinburgh is home to the Royal Mile, a street connecting Edinburgh Castle to The Palace of Holyrood House along which there are numerous places of historical interest. This is also where events such as the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Hogmanay and the Edinburgh Festival take place each year.

Due to its northerly location Scotland experiences a much colder climate than the rest of the UK and so the most popular time to visit is in the warmer months between April and September. The months of July and August coincide with school holidays and many areas can become very busy, especially in Edinburgh during August which is the festival period.
