Puerto Rico Destination Information

Puerto Rico is the smallest island of a group of islands called the Greater Antilles. The Greater Antilles separate the Atlantic Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Puerto Rico is east of Dominican Republic and west of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Puerto Rico is primarily composed of sandy beaches and cool mountainous rainforest in the interior, making it a great destination for those looking for beach or hiking.    more >>



The capital is San Juan, which is located in the northern part of the island. There is an old town in San Juan that is a lovely place to stay or just visit. Puerto Rico is best known for its sugar cane, tuna, rum and other beverages. Primary tourist attractions include the Forts Los Castilles, including the El Morro Castle and Fort St. Cristobal. Other attractions include El Yunque (The Rainforest).



Although Puerto Rico is located in the Carribean, it has been a Commonwealth of the United States since 1952. Puerto Ricans are U.S. Citizens and the US Dollar is the local currency. The official languages spoken in Puerto Rico are both English and Spanish.
