The Algarve makes a perfect all-year round holiday location due to its continual sunshine and low rainfall in the summer months. Located along Portugal's South coast, flights to Faro take around 2-2½ hours and start from as little as £12 one way in low season with low cost airlines such as easyjet.
Stretching along the coast for around 150km, The Algarve is made up of many resorts that used to be small fishing villages but have given over to development and tourism in recent years. Although the population of the Algarve is a mere 350,000 in winter, this increases to around a million in high season.
The climate means that the area is perfect for golf, and many of the large hotels around Vilamoura and Albufeira have their own courses or offer special rates to guests at nearby clubs. The beaches are ideal for children as they are sandy and gently sloping and the Algarve is a firm favourite amongst couples, families and more elderly travellers.
