Holiday Watchdog: Playa De Las Americas Reviews

Located on the South West Coast of Tenerife, 1 mile North of Los Cristianos and 12 miles West of Reina Sofia Airport, lies Playa de las Americas. Playa de las Americas is a product of the age of package holidays, there was little here until the first great wave of development in the 60s. The Island of Tenerife had seen nothing like this scale of invasion since about 1494. This is when the Spaniards first conquered the island, they enslaved the natives of the island. A fair skinned people known as the Guanches. It is believed that the Guanches are related to the Berber People of North Africa.
Playa de las Americas is now the liveliest, most vibrant resort on Tenerife and it still growing. A season rarely passes with out the opening of another large purpose built hotel. The whole of Playa de las Americas is custom-built for sun-worshippers and pleasure-seekers. Amongst the Brash and often ugly concrete high rise buildings you will find Palm Groves and cascading flowering shrubs making the whole view seem a lot more pleasant and easier on the eyes. Playa de las Americas features a pleasant promenade and some impressive modern architecture but is essentially unplanned and characterless.
Playa de las Americas main clients are gregarious action-seekers. This does not mean however that families and other age groups are not catered for, although those seeking quiet surroundings should look elsewhere. The resort is very popular with the British and as you would imagine Playa de las Americas has it's fair share of 'home' comforts - not always every ones 'cup of tea'!
The main part of the resort is known as "Veronica's Complex". This area is where the local low-life and drug pushers tend to ply their trade. Do not be put off but be aware.
The Beaches in Playa de las Americas are predominantly made up of dark Volcanic sand. You will find that two of the beaches are of a decent size. There is also an artificial beach that has been constructed using sand that was shipped in from the Sahara Desert.
Located between Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, you will find an 18 Hole Golf Course. There are also 2 more about 5-6 Miles away towards the Airport in a resort called Golf del Sur.
At night Playa de las Americas comes alive with Nightlife. There are Floor Shows, Discos, Night Clubs and many many Bars as well as a Casino for the more 'flush' amongst us. Eating out is excellent in Playa de las Americas. What ever your taste buds fancy, you name it and you can find somewhere in the resort.
