Playa Blanca Holidays
Fellow travellers say Playa Blanca is great for…
When travelling to the Canary Islands, most British holidaymakers head to Fuerteventura . However, holidays in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote’s southernmost town, are worthwhile for those that want a bit more quiet on holiday. Highly popular with German tourists, Playa Blanca is a little more reserved and less frenetic than other locations are in the Canary Islands, but this makes it a great location for families or those wanting a quiet break. Package holidays in Playa Blanca are particularly good value during the off-season, as even then the temperature is still pretty high. Though not as developed as other resorts in the Canary Islands, the place is expanding, so it is a good idea to check there is no building work going on outside your hotel before you book.
While holidays in Playa Blanca lack the nightclubs and vast array of bars as Fuerteventura, there is certainly no shortage of restaurants, and most are situated on the promenade and harbour. Most of the hotels put on some entertainment, but if you are after a little more action, Puerto del Carmen is only 30 minutes away by taxi, and is where you’ll find plenty of clubs and discos. The beach at Playa Blanca is comprised of golden sand and has plenty of room, no matter what time of year you book package holiday deals. You can also take part in a number of watersports, but usually these require booking in advance.
Shopping is fairly limited, although there is a couple of duty free stores, and most people taking holidays in Playa Blanca opt for an excursion or two, The island of Fuerteventura is just across the water and has some lovely beaches, while the underground grottos of La Cueva de los Verdes makes for a fascinating visit. Other places of interest include the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cactus Garden and the volcanic Timanfaya National Park.
