Morocco is located in North Africa and has borders with both the Western Sahara in the south and Algeria in the east.
Separated from Europe by the 9 mile Strait of Gibraltar has meant that Morocco has long been a tourist destination for holidaying Europeans. In fact, with a ferry ride from Spain taking around one hour, many Spanish visitors arrive as day trippers or for weekend breaks. Some of the most popular tourist destinations in Morocco are Agadir, Fez, Marrakech, Tangier and Casablanca. Agadir in the south of Morocco is the country’s main beach resort attracting European holidaymakers in search of sun, sea and sand. Fez is home to the ancient walled city (medina) of Fez el-Bali which is a great place for cultural sightseeing. Marrakech is a bustling city full of history where travellers can pick up a bargain at the many souqs (market stalls). Tangier sits on the northern coast looking out over the Strait of Gibraltar, and this is where most travellers coming from Spain arrive in Morocco. Casablanca sits further down the west coast and is home to the Hassan II Mosque one of the largest in the world.
Weather in Morocco is largely sunny with the summer months of July to September becoming very hot, especially around the desert areas in the south-west.
