Palm trees and white sand on the tropical beaches of the Maldives
The Maldive Islands are a group of over a thousand coral islands in the Indian Ocean which together make up the island nation of the Maldives. Of the large number of islands, around ninety have been developed for tourism.
The Maldives have long been a favourite destination for honeymooners in search of a desert island paradise with white sand beaches and clear blue sea. As the number of resorts has grown so the choice of holiday on offer has increased. Some resorts are aimed towards family holidays with crèche facilities, children’s pools and activities. Others are geared around providing entertainment throughout the day in the form of a variety of watersports, and at night with lively bars. The waters around the islands are considered by many to be the best in the world for snorkelling and diving due to the clear visibility and abundance of coral reefs.
The climate in the Maldives experiences very little variation throughout the year due to the proximity of the equator. The months between November and April constitute the dry season and average daily temperatures sit around 28°C. From May through to October the wet season, as its name suggests, brings an increased chance of rain.
