The stunning Cathedral of Palma de Marjoca
The largest of the Balearic Islands, Majorca (Mallorca in Spanish) lies off the south-east coast of Spain. Since the 1950s the island has been a popular package holiday destination, especially among British and German tourists, with visitor numbers now exceeding 6 million a year.
Benefitting from a Mediterranean climate of hot bright summers and mild winters the island attracts those in search of sun, sea and sand. Majorca also offers more than 340 miles of coastline with numerous sandy beaches and small coves.
Flights land at the Palma de Mallorca Airport also known as Son Sant Joan Airport. From here families tend to head to the resorts in the north such as Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia with the younger party crowds opting for the southern resorts such as Magaluf and Palma Nova.
