| Although many people know Madeira is a part of Portugal, you won't find it anywhere near the Portuguese coast. In fact the easiest way to locate Madeira on a map is to find Morocco, Madeira's closest neighbour, and move about 400 miles to the west into the Atlantic Ocean.
Madeira's sub-tropical climate makes it a safe bet for warm sunshine all year round. Thanks to it's southerly latitude, temperatures rarely drop below a pleasant 18º C, while in the summer months it rarely exceeds 24º C because of the cooling trade winds. Perfect for sunbathing 12 months of the year.
Anyone who appreciates nature and wants to relax in beautiful and unstressful surroundings should go to Madeira. It's ideal for keen walkers of all abilities or those who want to get more active with a plethora of water and land sports. While it may have no beaches, virtually all the hotels have a pool or access to the sea. Plus the sands of Porto Santo, Madeira's sister island, are only a boat ride away. It's an upmarket destination with something for everyone, bar those looking for raucous nightlife.
