Kos shoreline, Greece
Kos is the third largest of the Dodecanese Islands and is situated to the north-west of Rhodes, just over 2 miles from the coast of Turkey. The island is unlike many of the other Greek islands in that it is rather flat. This has made it very popular for those who enjoy cycling and there are many bicycle rental outlets available.
Most of the beach resorts can be found on the sandy coastline in the east and south of the island. Resorts such as Kefalos and Tingaki have beaches with warm shallow water ideal for children and a firm favourite with families. Kos Town and Kardamena cater for the young crowds providing numerous bars and clubs that are open until the early hours of the morning.
The summer weather in Kos starts around May and lasts into October with temperatures easily reaching 30°C in July and August.
The island is served by Kos island airport which is also known as Hippocrates airport.
