Isle of Wight Holidays
Located just off the south coast of England, the Isle of Wight is England’s largest island.
For many mainland British travellers the Isle of Wight is an ideal destination for summer holidays, activity holidays and romantic weekends away. The island has a number of beaches that have achieved a high level of safety standards and water quality and have been awarded the Blue Flag. Ryde, on the north-east coast, is a popular sandy beach resort stretching for over 6 miles. The beaches at Shanklin and Sandown are very popular with families and watersports enthusiasts. The island also plays host to a selection of music festivals including the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival, as well as being home to one of the Yachting calendars most important events: Cowes week.
Weather on the island is typically a few degrees higher than the mainland, mainly due to its more southerly location. The summer months between June and August is the best time to visit when average temperatures are around the low 20s and rainfall is at a minimum. Winters can get very cold, especially along the coastal regions.
Ferry crossings across the Solent from the mainland are frequent and there are numerous different arrival ports on the island.
