| At the North-eastern end of the Mediterranean lies Cyprus, the area's third largest island. Cyprus has an interesting mix of Eastern and European heritage, and over the last decade has become a firm favourite amongst UK holidaymakers. Flying time from the UK is approximately 4 hours.
Cyprus is famous for its mild winters, scorching summers and cloudless sky. It is still a very affordable destination and you will never be short of something to do here. Young clubbers flock to Ayia Napa, whereas families and couples prefer resorts such as Protaras, Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos. Unfortunately, due to the massive influx of tourists in recent years, some resorts are now over-developed and lack their natural, traditional charms, but for those willing to travel inland, a host of sleepy villages and tranquil, attractive countryside await discovery.
Nature lovers can take walks inland, and Cyprus is a great island for birdwatching. For those seeking excitement and prefer to stay by the beach, a good range of watersports are available in high season. There is a good choice of evening entertainment in all major resorts, with many restaurants, snack bars, bars and discos.
