Corfu is the northernmost of the Ionian Islands, located in the Ionian Sea off the West coast of Greece. Corfu is said to be the greenest of all the Greek islands, and this is probably due to its rainfall in winter months. Deep pine forests, vineyards, wildflowers, orchids and anemones can all be found in Corfu.
One of the first Islands to capture the British package holiday market, Corfu is now very developed and its tourism now well established. Beaches in Corfu are both pebbly and sandy, the best for children being Sidari in the North as it slopes gently into clear water. There are some lovely bays near Paleokastritsa and dramatic cliffs which attract walkers, botanists and bird-watchers.
Sports fanatics will be right at home. Watersports are available on the main resort beaches, not to mention Corfu's 18 hole golf course, tennis courts and the cricket ground in Corfu Town. Most resorts offer good nightlife in the way of snack bars, restaurants, pubs, bars and discos, the biggest and most notorious of which being Kavos in the South.
