- Go to Machico, which has one of the few sandy beaches. The Canico Mall has a great little grill call Zaruka - inexpensive and delicious. Mindgrowz
- go see the beach in Canico de Baixo - take the teleferico (cable car) at the giant jesus statue to get there. villa04

- get a local bus timetable from your hotel or/and get a hire car for part of your stay. Search around for good restaurants; some are very good. Noni_and_John
