| Probably the most developed of all the Caribbean islands, Barbados has over 60 miles of idyllic, white, sandy beaches, said to be amongst the best in the world. On the Caribbean West-coast, water is calm and tranquil and many hotels have developed here. In the East the Atlantic waters are rougher and the landscape more dramatic and rural.
The island's capital Bridgetown is set on a natural harbour has great tax-free shopping facilities, and only 9 miles along the coast is the resort of St Lawrence Gap which offers the best nightlife in Barbados. Watersports are readily available in most resorts. Inland there are plantation houses, some of which are open to the public, the island is certainly not lacking in things to do and see.
Barbados still has a very British feel even though it gained independence in 1966. The Bajans are approachable and friendly and public services and amenities have improved greatly in recent years. Anyone travelling to the island is guaranteed a relaxing, enjoyable holiday.
