Alvor lies at the western end of the Algarve about 2km inland on the banks of an estuary inlet. The main beach of Alvor is wide and sandy and runs for about 7km. The area attracts watersports enthusiasts, golfers and those holidaymakers wanting a quieter beach holiday. The resort centre offers a number of restaurants and cafes serving mainly traditional food and although there are a few bars and discos, better nightlife can be found in nearby Portimao and Praia da Rocha.
