Valentin Son Bou Hotel Reviews
" wonderful "

Submitted By: Mrs W NodnulThe apartments were clean but very out dated. In need of a good splash of paint.
The pool was ice cold, so we did not see many people in the pool all week despite the rain. The staff were friendly. The restaurant food was good, but a little cold, which is what you would expect when food is displayed uncovered. The entertainment, the usual animation staff that do all the other daytime activities. So basically not very professional. The apartment did not have hairdryers as stated on internet information, so i had to hire one for 15 Euros a weeks. We hired a car as we had reviewed the hotel and it stated it was a long way from the beach. Boy! were they right. It would have taken you half an hour to get down a steep slope. Luckily there were little trains that run every so often up and down the hill. Flies were also a great pest around the swimming pool and inside the lounge area. It was difficult to get any rest or read a book, as they were landing everywhere on you.

Submitted By: wendywWe travelled independently, booking our flights with Monarch and accommodation with Global. The flight was super and on arrival at Mahon we went outside the terminal and jumped straight into a taxi, where the English speaking taxi driver told us the price and took us straight to our accommodation.
On arrival at the hotel the reception staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient. We were given our wrist bands and some information about the things included in All Inclusive and off we went to our room. The room (1 bedroomed apartment in the hotel grounds) was clean and tidy, had a fridge, microwave, hob, TV etc and a well equipped kitchen. During our stay of 9 nights it was cleaned 3 times, which was more than adequate in our opinion.
The dining room was clean and efficiently run. Granted, some of the staff didn't smile, but they were rushed off their feet and probably didn't have time to! The food choices were excellent for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we never had to wait to be seated.
The snack bar staff were very friendly and actually knew our children by what they drank from the 2nd day!
The entertainment staff for the children were again excellent, they were so friendly and very patient, providing a range of different activities both day and night. Yes, the same songs were played for the kids mini disco, but the kids didn't seem to mind and most of the adults were singing along by the end of the week!
The HILL!!! - Yes the hotel is at the top of a steep winding hill, which took about 20 minutes to walk down and a slow 30 minute stroll back up. But the courtesy bus ran frequently throughout the day until 7.10pm and to be honest if you have children and like us were on All Inclusive, there was enough to keep you busy in the hotel in the evening so venturing out and having to walk was not a problem because we didn't do it.
Because the hotel is relatively isolated though, hiring a car is definately recommended. We hired a car for 2 days and this was plenty of time to see the island, visit a water park, the capital and the old capital of Mahon.
On departure we didn't have to check out of our room until 12 noon, but still had the use of the hotel and the All Inclusive benefits until 5pm. When we were ready to leave for the airport the reception called us a taxi and wished us a pleasant journey.
All in all a fantastic first holiday to Menorca, somewhere we would definately go again and if we couldn't find anything else that took our fancy, we would even return to the hotel - something which we haven't done before.

Submitted By: Ms L AOn arrival our room was not ready, we were put in an apartment for one night, it was the most dingy apartment, and I was worried about what our hotel room would be like if it compared to this room.
I could not unpack knowing that we would be moving at 9am, my daughter was distressed, her holiday ruined at day one, as she did not feel comfortable about her surroundings.
I was surprised this happened as I had e-mailed ahead asking if we had a room or apartment, and had received the reply stating hotel room, so they knew we were arriving, how strange.
The staff were courteous during this confusion, and did give us the safe deposit free of charge.... whoopee!!!
The food was very nice, restaurant staff were very nice, as with all AI holidays you expect to get a bit bored with what's on offer, but you could always have something well cooked and tasty. My daughter was a bit upset there were no special evenings, with music. I would expect that to be because the space was limited, breakfast and dinner were very crowded, lunch was less busy and by far out favourite meal of the day.
The entertainment team were non descript, you would be forgiven if you didn't realise they were there. The younger kids seemed well catered for, but 10yrs plus, were forgotten.
How this hotel has its 4* star rating is a quandary, it is shabby, old looking and in desperate need of a refurbishment. The outdoor pool was too small for the number of visitors. And had NO BRIDGE, after asking, I found the bridge has been removed 5 years previous, that's how old the pictures are in the brochures I guess! The indoor pool was not open, there was a need for more internet access machines, the teenagers were waiting for hours in the eve to get online, as well as adults!
I spoke to many people who had been before, and asked what brought them back.... they could not answer me, they didn't know, only saying it was easier to book somewhere you had been before, and they were just starting to question themselves why too!!
The hotel is too far away from the beach for young families, and in the evening there are no taxis so forget going down into the centre if you cannot walk 20mins up hill, and that is no mean feat after a few beers when it’s a hot sultry night.
I would not recommend this hotel.
I would like to add that our Thomas Cook rep was wonderful and charming, and we have nothing but praise for his attentiveness, he made sure he saw us when he was in the hotel to check we were ok.

Submitted By: Mr D J EdwardsHaving pre booked our seats we had plenty of leg room well worth the extra few pounds money we would have paid for a meal.
When we arrived I went to reception to collect our keys and tags for our All Inclusive stay for 2 weeks, the man at reception said sorry sir your room is not ready, can you call back later, I then said well can you give us our tags so that we can get a drink, sorry sir was the reply we do not have any, I thought well if it is going to be like this what have I come to this is not a good start.
The wife by now was ready to go back home, after 10 minutes they gave us the keys to the room having stayed in 4 star rooms around the world I would pos give it 3 star.
The food was quite good, again 3 star far too many very thin chips hardly any potatoes we did ask for some spuds to be put on the menu but we still didn't see any, the hotel was full with the Italians and screaming kids, so we did not get the rest we had hoped for the only time we had some peace was when we hired a car for a few days.
The beach at Son Bou is one of the best beeches I have seen infact there are about 123 beaches in Menorca and you can have a beech to yourself for the day.
The hotel is on top of a very steep hill if you have a disability like I have you will not be able to walk up or down but there is a bus every half hour run by the hotel and it is free.
The entertainment was good every night we had / Queen / The Beatles / The Four Tops etc so we could not fault that.
With the All Inclusive it did state that you could only have local drinks but when I asked for Bells Whisky they said you can have what you want and as they always ask for your room number, after a bit I thought this will be put on my bill at the end but no, it was free anything you wanted, so I can't fault the staff behind the bar.
The cleaning staff we found very helpful as I have a disability I have problems lying flat on my back, so extra pillows were required, so I asked the cleaner and she said how many do you want, you can't fault that and the standard of cleaning was A1 and the rooms are cleaned every day and the sheets on the bed are changed every day.
As holidays go I would give it 3 stars but we did have a good time I can recommend this Hotel but as for a quiet Holiday I don't think so you will have to get the bus to the beach if the Italians are there.

Submitted By: Miss E RobinsonThe apartments are nice and spacious. Food excellent, friendly hotel & not too busy for whit week.
Would definitely go again all inclusive. My 12 year old daughter loved the independence after meeting friends, they went to meals together, for drinks together, & this was not a problem with the staff.
We did walk down to the beach but was a big walk back, you can get on the hotel bus, however it stops from 1.00-300.
This was a great relaxing holiday. Only 25 euro's - 10 mins from airport. Taxi’s outside the airport, hotel booked the taxi back to the airport.
Cheap flights, good deal with alpha rooms.

Submitted By: Mrs J BrandStaff were very helpful, especially Jamie the barman, very friendly guy. We were all inclusive, which to start with wasn’t quite clear to us what was free and what was charged for. We did try to ask our first choice rep, but she was hopeless, the only words we heard out of her mouth was telling a friend she couldn’t wait to quit.
The restaurant staff were also very pleasant, food was very good, and you couldn’t fault it. We were here for 1 week only so I think if we were there for 2nd week, we would have eaten out a few times, cos food does become a bit repetitive.
Entertainment was good, on the evenings they had professionals in. On other evenings, the staff entertained which was not good. They are very good with entertaining kids, can’t fault them there, but they need to stop there. We would have rather they played music all night instead.
Pool area great, no probs getting beds, but this is in May, so not sure about high season.
Overall had a lovely hol here, would return back.

Submitted By: Mrs C HuntWe took our 2 year old son due to the hotel boasting a crèche. We found this quite misleading as when we got there the staff could only speak little English and one of us had to stay with our son while he was playing in the crèche, which became pointless as we would have liked a break at the pool side. The main reason we opted for this hotel was the crèche. Don't be taken in by this facility!
If you are like us and need good air conditioning don't opt for this hotel, it was hopeless. We went all inclusive and found the food was nice but more choice was needed. If you don't mind paella, salad and chips every lunch and dinner time then you'll be fine.
We also struggled without a fridge in our room, (strange for a 4* don't you think) as our bottled water was always warm of a morning.
If you do have a toddler be aware that there are no locks on the inside of the doors and we had to be really carefully. Our son found this out and we spent every day running down the corridor after him.
This hotel is situated on top of the hill and it is quite a trek to walk to the town but they do provide a bus (which tends to get extremely busy) every half hour.
On a positive note, the hotel was nice and the pool was lovely.

Submitted By: Ms C RodieAlthough it got fairly windy around the hotel (as it is on top of a hill), the complimentary beach bus ran every half an hour for most of the day and the weather was a lot calmer at sea level. The food laid on was amazing, lots of choice and a very imaginative chef! Although there were time restrictions on the all inclusive deal, there was rarely a time when we did not have access to anything food and drink wise.
Perfect for a relaxing and stress free holiday, and judging by the number of returning guests we spoke to, has a good past reputation as well.
