Good hotel as a starting point to explore Benalmadena and surroundings (i.e. Malaga or Granada). Beach and boulevard at 100 meters. Bus to Fuengirola and Torremolinos at 50 meters. Clean room, alle the basics are available. Personnel: friendly but does not speak English,... more

My mother and I have stayed at this hotel in March for the last 3 years. It is a typical 3 star Spanish hotel - no frills but very clean. Our rooms (with balcony) have had tiled or laminated flooring and been spotlessly clean. Large bathroom and loads of clean towels. ... more

Not suitable for the elderly and disabled due to the road being dug up and block
We booked tghis hotel through Select Holidays in Essex, and they new my husband was disabled. He could not hire a wheelchair or indeed an electric scooter, as the road is being dug up from the bottom to the hotel door. The Hotel has seen better days, but most of the staff were pleasant. There were small inssect crawling around the floor, and the linen has seen better days. Everything was clean enough, but the food was not all that great, plenty of veg, fruit and pasta and rice, but the quality of the meat left a lot to be desired. My husband was not able to get around much and he was confined to the hotel. Would certainly not visit this hotel again as it is on a very steep hill which at the moment is being dug up and is closed off to traffic coming off the main duel carriageway. Otherwise the sea view was excellent, but the rooms are very noisy during night due to the fact that it is just off the motorway. The Puerto Marina is very nice. I certainly would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Friendly staff
Friendly warning if you have booked with cosmos make sure you have the phone number of the office on the Costa Del Sol before leaving for Spain. The hotel was more a two star plus than a three star. The covered swimming pool was cold. The hotel needs modernising it was like going back to the 1960s. Towels and linen have seen better days, but the hotel & linen were clean. The food was variable but we don’t eat fish. The food was often basic and lacked attention to detail only small things like no brown sauce and no crackers to go with the cheese selection. The chef cooked egss in the morning and in the evening 1 fish and 1 meat dish were cooked in front of you. Lovley breakfasts every day.The staff tried to con you in to buying bottled water when the carafes of water and wine were free. The hotel is near a busy main road which was very noisy, there is no double glazing. The local town is a bit of a hike up hill, but well worth the effort. The beds are firm and the pillows are just naff. On the plus side The cable car is worth a visit, I don’t want to spoil the surprise but do wear sensible shoes and take a camera /camcorder with you. The food was always hot and there was free wine and water each evening, the staff were all friendly and helpful. There was plenty of entertainment. The hotel is located close to the beach (which was clean) and close to Polomo park, with the hens & cockrels roaming free, which is worthy of at least one visit ( and its free). Aircon and TV in the bed rooms. There is a travel shop by the bus stop that sells trips to Gibraltar at good prices, would recommend a trip. Please don’t be put off the hotel by the above just thought you would like to know. We would definitely return to this hotel. We stayed March 4 to 14 2008
Good value 3 star Hotel
We were a party of 8 adults who stayed here for the easter week-end. The hotel is in a great position and we all had pool and side sea views. The rooms are basic but very clean. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The pool area had plently of sun beds and comfy matresses, much better than some higher star hotels that I have stayed in. The covered pool area was a bonus and some of us even ventured in for a dip. The only down-side was the evening meal, which we all felt let the side down. The breakfasts on the other hand were very good. We has fantastic weather with plenty of sunshine and missed the very cold, snowy UK weather - which was what the trip was about!! So all in all we had a great time and would recommend this hotel for a short break, or even a longer one, but if we came again we would opt for the B&B option. Like a few of the other reviwers we used the train from the airport and then a taxi to the hotel. But on our return journey we used taxis as we were pushed for time.
nice hotel, lovely view
We went for half ferm in feb to hopefully get some winter sun, oh dear we only got 1 and a half days of it . Never mind we made the best of it we went to Gibralter, the cable cars, the dolphin and penguin park which was ok, Malaga on the bus which was cheap and had a lovely pizza at the marina. I read the reviews of the hotel after booking and thought what have i done, no need to worry the room was nice lovely view of the pool, the sea and mountains when they weren't covered in cloud. Everyone was friendly, the hotel was clean and the bar prices were very good, even better at happy hour. The food was lovely with plenty of choice, there was somebody cooking fresh meat or fish on a griddle. My daughter had two cooked breakfasts one morning. Despite the weather we had a good time, the indoor pool was very useful because of the weather. The hotel does have alot of older clients but everyone got on, there was a mixture of nationalities there. It was nice not having to cook or wash up for a week.
"cheap but cheerful"
Needed a few cheap days away to escape gloomy British winter - booked separate easyjet flight and hotel through travel republic and got a good deal. Overall rooms were very basic but clean, restaurant provided a good varied breakfast, went half board but only ate in 3 evenings out of the 6 and couldnt complain about the food for the price we paid. Soup for starter, 2 fish and 2 meat choices with a few veg or rice, limited desserts. Waiter service very efficient and cheerful. The hotel provided daytime activities and evening entertainment consisted of bingo, spanish dancers, quiz etc. Unfortunately we didnt get chance to sample the pool but we did choose this hotel partly because it had a covered heated pool which is a bonus during winter months. Weather wasnt very good during our week there Im afraid. Search around for separate flights and hotel during winter months and it can save a fair amount of money rather than buying as a package, also if on a budget catch the train from the airport to benalmadena arroyo de miel station for 1 euro 35 then a taxi to the hotel from station will cost 5 euro. A taxi from the airport costs approx 25 euro - big savings to be made! The public transport system in benalmadena is fantastic and extremely cheap. Buses stop right outside hotel on main strip going to malaga or fuengirola for just over a euro each!! The marina is situated approx 15 - 20 mins walk away with a reasonable selection of restaurants. If you love birds dont miss paloma park - a huge and very beautiful public park full of hens, pigeons, ducks, peacocks etc just wandering around waiting to be fed. There are also wild rabbits and guinea pigs running around that will eat from your hands.Turn right on main road then right at roundabout and park is few yards up hill on the left - we spent hours in there! This hotel in winter months seemed to cater for the more elderly clientele which suited us fine as mother and daughter, so think twice if youre after a stag or hen do - others may be more suitable. Overall this wouldnt be my choice of hotel or resort for my main summer holiday as it is quite a basic 3* hotel, however for a few days away as a very cheap winter break we had no complaints.
Palia La Roca
A lovely, clean hotel. The food was very good and plentiful, with a decent variety of main courses. The staff in the restaurant were nearly too efficient, sometimes clearing up before we had quite finished. The staff on the bar, at reception and the chambermaid were all friendly and helpful. The staff supervising the day time activities were excellent and it amazed me that they could remember everyone's name. The entertainment in the evenings was varied, from Bingo to a Flamenco night. Overall, excellent value for money and well worth a visit.
Good Value for Money
On first appereance we were unsure of what to expect but we were pleasantly supprised once inside. Our room was very clean and fresh and we had the most fantastic view of the sea from our balcony. We stayed half board and the buffet meals gave plenty of choice but unfortunately if you are a fussy eater this may prove to be a slight problem on an evening as I found. The only problem we both had was the fact that the second you finished the last thing on your plate they immediately took it away! All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was cleaned every day. Ignore the signs telling you not to reserve the sunbeds, we did this on the second day and payed the price! The prommenade is pretty but do not expect to find much in the way of traditional Spain, you need to travel about 10 minutes out to find the more traditional part of Spain. The marina is definatley worth a visit with it's stunning boats and buildings. I would really recommend a ride on the cable cars, the views were stunning and make sure you take a camera! Overall the town was a bit on the busy side for us but the hotel was well worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone.
fantastic hotel
we have just returned from a week at la roca, having read some of the reviews after we had booked it we were quite concerned,we found the hotel very friendly, clean and the food was fantastic, not a chip, burger,or anything greasy in sight, the dining room was small and proper table cloths on the tables instead of the usual paper ones, the chairs were made of plastic, but very stylish, and to top it off was free wine in the evenings, the gardens were lovely, and two swimming pools, one outside and one covered, thereare a few good bars nearby, kings bar just downthe road being one of them, and just up the road is bonanza square, more bars and restuarants,we have stayed in nearly all the hotels in belamadena, this is one of the better ones, and we shall defenatly be returning.
Not the best hotel by far....
I was taking my son on holiday on our own for the first time he is 12, I wanted to take him somewhere where he could meet kids his own age and where the would be plenty of activities for him, I checked this first with the travel agent! Albeit the hotel was quite clean, the staff were not in the least bit freindly and the food was to say the least basic and bland! We ate out most of the time. It was full of French people who were less than freindly and very rude to myself and my son, there were kids there his age and he did try to talk to them but they made it very clear they did not want to know. We spent the whole week on our own as the french all seemed to stick together, I love Benalmadena and will be going back this year but defiantely not to this hotel!! Jackie Wirral
nice hotel PLEASE READ ON ..........
As a travel agent I am very picky when it comes down to hotels as i have a idea which ones are poor and which ones are good. I book palia la roca on med hotels two days before travelling, i was taking my partner and my 18 month old little girl so I wanted it to be nice. I did read the reviews on this site before I booked it but Its reviews were kinda mixed so to put the storey straight here is my review.. 1.good standard three star hotel 2.very clean ,pools were immaculate 3.only hotel in this resort to have a indoor heated pool incase its chilly 3.great entertainment focused more for the more mature clientele eg ballroom dancing, flemenco shows bingo, live acts and singers 4.beds were comfy even though mine had a wobbly leg!! 5.great location in the center with lots of nice bars and resturants close by,though up a slight hill so if you struggle with your breathing take a miss on this one. 6.great if your in a wheelchair or you have a buggy/pram around the hotel there are slopes and lifts 7.food aint exactly top notch but for the price you pay you couldnt ask for much better 8.staff were very nice and helpful all spoke really good english even though most of the guests are mostly spanish and other nationalities 9.opposite there is a pub called boos bar which ahs a small play area if you have little ones and want to have a drink in peace 10. not far from the paloma park which is amazing its beautiful a must see if you go here. hope you have found this helpful!!!
