We are regular guests and managed to fit in a short break between longer stays that are usually in May and October. The hotel was full of Spanish families and that was a big plus as there was a lovely positive atmosphere in the hotel and quiet at night allowing us to sleep... more

We have just returned from a long weekend away at the Hotel Palmasol and although the hotel was fully booked mainly with Spanish pensioners everywhere was very clean and the food of a high standard. We noted how hard the staff worked to keep standards to the way we have... more

We have just returned from another lovely stay at the Hotel Palmasol. The staff are always helpful and cheerful and the animation programme particularly good. The food is always of a good standard with lots of choice even for vegetarians like myself. The rooms, although a... more

We found the hotel a very nice place to stay and would certainly stay there again - and recommend it to friends. The staff were very helpful and friendly and they all spoke English. The room we had was basic and clean, but was ideal for us. We did find a musty smell to the... more

After reading some very dodgy reviews about this hotel, I was dreading the holiday, especially considering I was the one who picked and booked the hotel for a party of 7 (4 Adults and 3 children). BUT... after a late flight and arriving at the hotel at almost midnight I... more

We brought our 5 yr old grand-daughter here for a week's stay in Sept. We had stayed at this hotel 8 yrs ago and it has changed little since. The good points are the location - right on the Marina and near to bus stops for Marbella/Mijas and Torremolinos. Food better than... more

We actually have been there twice over the last 10 years once with my mother and her friend, and later on our own. What we really liked was the location of the hotel down a quiet side street which was almost a cul-de-sac with cars only allowed through from the harbour. Also... more

Terrible
We stayed at the Hotel H10 Palmasol 15 Oct -29 Oct 2006. We had sayed there 4 years ago and enjoyed our stay. This time things were very different. On arrival we discovered to our dismay that there was a very noisy building site adjoning the north side of the hotel and a direlict building and swimming pool directly across the street on the west side (in a disgusting state). There was no mention of this prior to or after booking with Thomson. There is very unacceptable noise from the surrounding streets and night spots thursday - sunday. Staff are friendly and helpful. Thomson should be make all clients aware of the situation. This was a very expensive holiday with the state of the outside area and the severe noise. I feel that the price is truly over priced by 100%. I will not stay there again! I will be seeking substantial compensation. Mr and Mrs Thompson, Edinburgh, Scotland
Middle of the road
We have just arrived home from the H10 Palmasol in Benalmadena. There was a group of 7 adults on our one week holiday. The rooms were basic but clean which is fine as all you really do in them is sleep. The food was fine - not a big range of dishes but thats sometimes a good thing. Thats all i have to say thats good about this hotel. The reception area is dark and dingy - a bit like the reception staff who were very unprofessional and unfriendly. The bar is closed on Mondays and Wednesday - yes i said CLOSED in peak season - on the open nights the "entertainment" was scary and therefore you wouldn't want to stay - Simon Cowell would have a field day with these acts! The pool wasn't nearly big enough to accomodate all the guests and therefore you had a 10-15 minute walk downhill to the beach if you wanted a sunbed - the only problem with the downhill walk was that after a long day sunbathing you had a steep uphill walk back to the hotel - denfinately not suited to the less abled or those with samll children. The daily entertainment we were promised left a lot to be desired, darts and aqua-aerobics every day! The bar staff were extremely solw at taking your order and even slower at getting your drinks! As there were 7 of us we made the holiday for ourselves - i usually take my 4 children on holidays with me and it was with apprehension that i left them behind with my in-laws - am i glad i did - they would have been bored out of their heads day and night as there was not even a swimming pool for kids. All in all this hotel was fine for a base but if your looking for something a little better i'd give it a miss.
More Than Expected for a 3 star
Well firstly it was so much better than i expected. In my mind i thought a basic 3 star but when i walked into the hotel i thought i had walked into the wrong 1. The reception area is made up to be a five star. Imaculate is the word. The staff are all extremly helpful and cheerful and the little shop inside the hotel comes in handy for little gifts or even the daily newspaper. The rooms are all extremly clean as are the bathrooms and the cleaners are very percise with there work. There is a wide range of food including deserts in the dinning room to cater for all, with very helpful waiters. There is also a wonderful lady who holds activites for all ages in the garden everyday. Finally would i go there again? Definatly, im goin there again in july!!!!!
enjoyable
stayed at the palamsol end of june 2006 for a week loved the position of the hotel, staff friendly, food very good, surroundings lovely, my only critisism is the noise from the building site at the side of the hotel and also from traffic and public at night, the balcony doors need to be double glazed. A litte updating is what is needed. Benalmadena is lovely and would definately go back again.
it was great!!!
i have just gone on a school trip with light hall school to malaga, and at the last minute our school was located to this hotel. I thought the hotel was really nice!!! i loved the pool because it looked very beautiful with all the palm trees and everything and i thought the pool was very clean, although it could be a little cold! also the dining hall was great as all the food was lovely and the desserts were gorgeous!! also all the waiters were keen to serve and very nice. reception wernt as helpful as i think it could have been as our school lost a few things and reception didnt help alot :( the rooms were very pretty. small but pretty! the view from our balcony was lovely as we could see the sea from there. some of the stuff there could have been better quality but im not complaining!! one of my favourite things there were the pool tables!! as the hotel will remember our school spent half our time there! the entertainment was very lively and quite funny and i think out school contributed to that! anyway i would recommend the hotel to large groups as it is a good hotel to stay at as it had good facilities and it was close to lots of lovely places to go like iy took out scool about 20 mins to get to the little town of Mijas!! very nice hotel
Nice Hotel for 3 star, terrible noise at weekends
I stayed here for one week half board and found it a very nice 3 star hotel. I have stayed in hotels from 1-5 stars and this was the best looking. Nice reception area. Reception staff pretty moody, maids were really nice and rooms clean. Waiter staff were fairly courteous however my sister and I thought some of them a bit creepy also. The pool area is nice but needs a little uplift. The sunbeds are awful and at this time of year the hotel was full of elderly people including my mother and she found the beds very sore as we did and we are in our 30's. The food was very good I have to say and there was a varied selection plus the desserts very nice. The entertainment in the hotel was sooo awful, I did read this review and wanted to see for myself if it really was this bad and yes it was. Most people walked out of them as they were so boring. What ruined our 2 days holiday was a bunch of 12 yobs from Devon/Cornwall wearing Milners Football Club shirts who were there for a stag weekend and totally caused mayhem. They had only arrived and were already throwing each other and sun loungers in the pool and the poor lifeguard told them off so many times that he had to get management who was going to throw them out if any more complaints (personally he should have as it all went downhill from there). Whilst not a party pooper and everyone is on holiday to have a good time, I think everybody at the pool and in the hotel would agree that they should have gone to a 18-30 holiday as they didnt care about anyone. In the early hours of the morning they were running down corridors and banging on doors at 5am. When they left, people were waving them goodbye and we were also. Anyway on to the good points of the hotel, it is very central and the steep hill is no problem even for my elderly mother. the marina is lovely and dont forget your bread to feed the fish - they are huge!!! Great location but noisy at the weekends due to the 24 hour square up the road. We had very poor weather for 4 days which was totally unexpected but there are some lovely attractions to see and do. Across the road from the hotel are three pubs and are all reasly cheap and serve lovely food so dont forget to pop in for a visit. I would definately recommend this area as opposed to Torremolinos as I thought it was pretty tacky and busy as is fuengirola. One last piece of advice (I think the hotel should read the reviews as there are some major repairs they need to put in hand namely the patio doors in the bedrooms are not double glazed and are not secure and the bathrooms are far too small). Would I come back to this hotel again - not too sure as we didnt get any sleep for 2 nights as it was too noisy and we had a garden room facing the pool which was supposed to be a lot quieter. The Alay and the Triton looked realy nice so might try them as they might be quieter.
Good
Stayed here for a long weekend and loved it, It looks a bit tired from the outside but inside its good and well above a 3 star rating. All the staff i encountered were very good and as i stayed on half board basis the restaurant staff were brilliant and worked hard. The evening meals were brilliant especially the desserts which were amazing and i thank the staff for their hard work. The hotel is about 100 yards from the marina and the climb up to the hotel is a little bit steep but worth the trip.
Good weekend
Stayed in the Palmasol for a long weekend. At check in staff were curteous and helpful. The rooms were a bit small and tired looking but very clean.......as was all the bedding. We were very impressed with the architects endeavours to get a bath, bidet, toilet and sink basin into a few square yards of bathroom successfully. Well done that man, you can rest your chin on the basin whilst sat on the toilet..........useful after a good night out. The food was presented well and fairly varied.....meethinks a little above it's star rating. There are ashtrays in the rooms but smoking was NOT permitted in any communal areas of the hotel i.e. dining room, bar, entertainment areas etc.which I found to be a big plus being a non smoker......but not so good if you like a ciggie with your drink/entertainment. The hotel offers a reasonable sized pool with pleasant cultivated gardens. We found it to be in a central position with access the port area a 100 metre walk down a fairly steep hill. The Benalmadena and Torromolinas promanades are approximately a ten minute walk from the hotel. Although in a central position near the main port area we suffered no noise problems........ although being April it was fairly quiet. Would I go there again ?......Yes..........Very enjoable short stay.
Never Again
booked this hotel in April 2005 to stay there in Sept 2005. When we arrived no accomodation was available. We were given conflicting stories as to the reason for this. Staff very unhelpful in resort and although we were put in alternative accomodation this was not suitable for a group of 7 females. After complaining on our return we were only offered an apology in response to our complaint and staff were again very unhelpful. We met people on our holiday that had experienced the same problems. If customer service is important to you dont book this hotel.
Basic & Clean
My wife and I booked on the memory of having stayed in this same hotel 15 years ago, the comparison was quite surprising that it had not changed much at all !!.. To our detriment the hotel is in need of a complete facelift and is looking quite tired. The accomodation was very basic with very little room to move around, the bathroom ceiling was peeling away and there was fungus growing around the sink and bath. The curtains did not open and close without real effort and didnt hang right, there is a 'make do' wire mesh clipped around the balcony (to stop young children climbing through I suppose). Although there is a very nice pool it is definately not heated, it was freezing cold in the 30 degrees sunshine!. The pool bar did not open once and the indoor pool was certainly no attraction. Sun loungers are well passed their used date and you had to pick amongst them to find one that didnt contort your back too much. There is a nice garden area for shade. The restaurant is very basic and impersonal but very clean, the waiters were friendly and keen to serve. The food is of limited choice and you will see the same dishes most days. It is fair to say that the food is well prepared though. Evening entertainment, depends on your taste, I would liken it to that of a talent show, certainly nothing professional that we witnessed and the barman was quite rude in his manner. The reception staff were very polite and helpful, there is a shop which provides basic needs, this closes early in the evening as does the restaurant. So why did we stay here? you get what you pay for, it cost me £770 for two adults half board for 7 days, its clean and serves as a good base to go out on foot in an evening. We hired a car from 'Autos Marymar ' for 5 days and covered 480 miles. I recommend the lakes at El Chorro, dolphin trips in Gibralta and a flomenco show at the Torrequebrada Hotel & Casino. Would we go back ? Maybe in 15 years !
