Me and my better half went here for a...
8 / 10
Oct 2007, Miss K Fearn

Me and my better half went here for a week, Sat 13th Oct till the weekend after! We had the worst flights possible so we arrived at the Liberty about 4 O’clock in the morning, to find the receptionist running out to us with a piece of paper with the name of the hotel we had to go to as they had overbooked the Liberty!!
Off we went to "Strelizias"... I think that's how you spell it, the receptionist here couldn’t speak hardly any English whatsoever so we got our key and waited until the morning to sort things out. This hotel wasn’t amazing but it was part of the Liberty group. It was clean at least and we had what we needed! We soon met another couple that couldn’t get in the Liberty either (and it happened to them the year before too, so its common!!). We didn’t get into the Liberty until Wednesday morning, half way through our holiday… they gave us the safety deposit box for free and wanted to pay for our taxi that brought us from our other hotel but we didn’t get the taxi receipt (so remember it if this happens to you!).
Anyway! The last half of the holiday in the Liberty was much more pleasant, ceiling fans were great for keeping you cool, we didn’t use the air con though. Everything was clean and modern. The showers are nice, powerful and roomy ;-) a certain few channels on TV are free so don’t put money in to switch it on like we were doing, only put money in if you want the extra channels!
The main receptionist that seemed to be there all the time spoke really good English. The pool area was clean, good sun bathing beds. The pool bar there does nice toasties etc too. It also has a big telly if there’s some sport on you wanna watch! We were on the roadside of the Liberty, you can hardly hear the noise outside if the doors shut, but if its open you wont here the TV, I thinks its even room numbers that are on the roadside. Also ask to keep the room on if your return flight isn’t until late in the day as they can kick you out as early as ten o’clock! There’s a shower room and toilet at the side of the pool bar if you need it!
We got taxis to the Kasbah and the beach, always under three Euros, but you could walk to the Yumbo centre. It was hard to find decent English food though. We were sticking to Chinese most nights (the Chinese next to China Whites in Kasbah is really good!!!). The beach is 7euros50cents for two beds and a umbrella! Not bad to say its stilled manned by a lifeguard lol.
Oh and watch out for the large African women who want to put some washing line with 3 beads on around your wrist, no eye contact!! And don’t shake their hand! Just don’t look at them and run!
So as long as you can get into the Liberty its okay!!

Just come back from two weeks in...
9 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs S Mault

Just come back from two weeks in Playa del Ingles staying at the Liberty Apartments with a girl friend. I had stayed before three years ago and the refurb they did two years ago has made a difference although it wasn't too bad before.
The rooms are fresher looking and they have ceiling fans in the living space and bedroom which is great - they have air conditioner units in the rooms which they kept putting on because they were testing them ready for 2008 season but it was very hot when we were there and the ceiling fans worked well.
There is more space round the pool now that they have moved the pool bar - also the sunbeds are very comfy, the whole pool and garden area is great just what you need when laying soaking up the sun.
Went to the usual places at night - Yumbo/Kasbah and Irish Centre, Ricky's Cabaret in the Yumbo is still great although Ricky himself is no longer there - Andy Martine has carried on and has another four acts with him - Gina G-string is gorgeous and he and Andy were my favourites.
Plenty of great places to eat, Torro Negro in the Kasbah, Yellow Rose on the edge of Gran Chaparal, and in the Yumbo Martel and Torro 11 are both very good, but there are loads everywhere which I am sure are good as well.
We would highly recommend the Liberty and even though we would have liked a room with a pool view and didn't get one you couldn't hear the traffic at night when your windows were shut.
Great holiday.

I visited the Liberty Apartments for...

Oct 2007, Miss N Blackhall

I visited the Liberty Apartments for 2 weeks in August this year, I didn't know what to expect and was really surprised at how nice the place was. It was so clean we had the maids nearly everyday.
The night life was good all the shows in the Yumbo centre and the night life in the Kasbah.
The only problems were that you had to walk quite far for the first close restaurant the Red cow but the free shouts in Shennanigans were great!
I would recommend to go here just watch out for a club called Zig Zag near Linekars in the Kasbah as a round of drinks of 2 bottles of water and 2 smirnoff ices were 35 euros.
I want to go back so much hopefully in the next year or so.

Oct 2007, Mr K Gilkinson

I have travelled to the Canary Islands many times and Gran Canaria 6 times prior to this visit. I can safely say that these apartments are the best I have stayed in. They are very clean and modern. There are all the kitchen utensils you need and the beds are comfortable.
Our apartment was to the front of the building and didn't cause us any problems at all. In fact, we enjoyed the evenings when we came in from the pool and were able to sit on the balcony enjoying the last of the rays.
Good offers around the pool bar for any Alco's or fellow Irish people going. Yumbo is just around the corner with good restaurants. I would recommend you give places like Benny Hills and The British Bulldog a miss if you fancy a snack or lunch... the quality was not good.
Great holiday in great apartments, and have already booked to go back.

Last Monday my partner and myself...
9 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss SLm Mcleod

Last Monday my partner and myself returned from a two week stay in Gran Canaria at The Liberty apartments. It was the first time I'd been away with my partner and I can honestly say it was the best holiday of my life.
We arrived at around 10pm and was greeted by friendly staff who gave us our room card within seconds of arriving. The rooms were very clean and modern. The bathroom was especially very professional. We had a pool view which was also an advantage. The rooms were cleaned almost daily.
The pool was excellent and was very clean (most of the time... there was a couple of days where leaves and such things had made their was into the pool). The pool bar was also good and provided the basic food and drinks.
Liberty apartments is situated pretty much in the middle of everything. The yumbo center is very glamorous and is aimed towards a homosexual audience however me and my boyfriend were welcomed by the staff and became regulars in *Desire* bar and also the one next door. Drinks here are extremely cheap. I think a shot of sambuca is about 70p and two glasses of large white wine is about £3. Working in a bar I know thats cheap!
The Kasbar is much more lively however drinks are much more expensive and most of the time you can only order two drinks at a time. The bars are very lively most of them playing dance music and the majority of them have pole dancers in skimpy bikinis dancing on the bars (much to my boyfriends delight).
If you book a boat trip as we did I would book it through your rep as we were approached by a man selling cheap boat tickets for the same trip and a couple who we got to know by the pool bought some and informed us that they turned out to be fake.
I would also recommend you visit aqua land as it is a brilliant day out!
We were told by our rep that we had to leave by 12pm (how anyone would not go and check the time they had to leave anyway is beyond me) however our plane was not until 10pm and we were able to lock our suitcases in a spare room.
There was also ladies walking round from South Africa, they would approach you and act very friendly then catch you off guard and place string bracelets on your wrists. They would then charge you up to 50 Euros for them claiming they were lucky and demand you pay them, they can become quite aggressive. Luckily we were warned about them so just be carefull!
Thats it really the only problems we encountered was our flights with "First Choice". My boyfriend being 6"11 obviously needed extra leg room. Which he paid £25 for on booking the holiday. Having boarded the plane we were told he was sat in a window seat and that there was nothing else they could do.
So on the flight back home he made sure to double check his extra leg room seats were available. The check-in lady informed us that we had definitely paid for an extra leg room seat and even showed us a diagram on her computer screen as to where we would be sitting on the plane. However once again as we got on the plane he was put in a window seat again and told there was nothing the airline could do about it.
I would defo recommend staying in the Liberty apartments again! We would defo go back there again next year, we would just make sure we don't book with First Choice.

After reading all of the reviews made...

Sep 2007, Miss J Towers

After reading all of the reviews made about this hotel I cannot give a good report. This was the worst holiday of my life!!
Got to the hotel at 11pm where we was met by the rudest receptionist I have ever known, who could speak english but didn't want to because she was to busy on msn. Threw our keys at us and didn't even tell us what floor our room was, so it took us nearly 30 mins with my son to find which floor our room was.
At the time of the booking it did state there was a gym-nothing! The pool area was ok but no entertainment what so ever for adults or for children, no apartment bar just the poolside bar which closed at 8pm (this is August high season too!). If you was lucky you could order your drink at 7.55 but then got the bad looks from the bar worker.
The security guard was an idiot, our son who is 9yrs old and has hearing difficulties was ordered to turn down the tv which was on quite high at 10pm I did tell him about our son but he said we would have to leave if we didn't turn it down - what a disgrace!!!! 4 days into my holiday I had cut my foot whilst out that night and came back to the apartments to wash it after this I went to the reception for a plaster to my surprise the receptionist had phoned the local police and had stated my husband had punched me in the face. I was insulted by police who wanted to beat up my husband and they insulted my son to. After asking the receptionist why she had done this she said no speak english and laughed in my face. I shown the police my foot and with this they left.
I spoke to some local english who live there and they warned us that this hotel is well known. In one week of being there so many people were thrown out of here so what are they doing? Taking your money then throwing you out. If your between 17-35 who like to party - or have disabilities take my advice don't go!! The staff are horrible don't think they like the british at all, never seen First Choice rep she would turn up when she liked.
This is our 11th holiday to Playa and have always had a brill time but would never go back to Liberty again.

Staying at the Liberty apartments was...
8 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr S D Jones

Staying at the Liberty apartments was a very pleasant experience. The pool was clean, and so were the apartments. Our room was cleaned nearly everyday we spent there.
However I don't suggest staying here if you are young and are likely to be drunk and rowdy, as the security guard is an idiot. The Liberty is situated a short distance from the Yumbo centre, but I suggest if you plan on having a night out in the Kazbah or the Irish strip, then you should get a taxi back to the hotel during the night as these clubs are further away.
Food is easy to find if you are self catering, as there was a small shop next door to the hotel and a supermarket with more variety around the corner.
There were also a selection of restaurants nearby, many Italian, English and Chinese or Indian choices available.
The beach was also quite far away but it was a short 5 minute trip in the taxi which was very cheap and would usually only cost around 3 euros at the most.

Sep 2007, Miss S Stewart

What a fantastic holiday! Liberty Apartments were brilliant. Very clean and the staff were really friendly. Based close enough to all the central bars, clubs and restaurants, but far enough way not to be disturbed at night.
Met some lovely people here who were with their children (kids had a great time too!) I will definitely be returning and will most certainly be staying at Liberty apartments.

Aug 2007, Mrs J HODGES

This was the 3rd time myself and my husband have stayed at the Liberty apartments. They are really nice now after the refurbishment, and just love the walk-in shower; the rooms are a good size.
Rooms on the road side though are very noisy so request a pool view room but if you don’t get one then if you ask to be moved to one when one becomes available they are happy to help.
The staff are lovely. We have been to playa del Ingles 9 times and have made a lot of good friends there, and due to go back in October cant wait. I call it my 2nd home.
The Yumbo is a great place for a night out and you must go to Ricky's bar, the drag show is fabulous, also diamonds is great to the owner Phil is lovely and Paul one of the staff is hilarious and such a sweetheart nothing is to much trouble and he has always got a smile on his face.
Well happy holidays all hope you have a great time and I’m sure if you have never been before to Playa del Ingles you will defiantly go back.

Aug 2007, Miss A Hemmer

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Liberty. I would highly recommend these
apartments to anyone. The rooms were great with a lovely walk in power shower.
There was a heat wave while we were there but this was not a problem as the air
conditioning was great. The pool area was nice and clean and the sun beds were really
comfortable.
On a night me and my friends would walk down to the Kasbah or the Irish centre. I would recommend China Whites and Keanes Bar. We ate in a restaurant called The Red Cow quite a bit as the food was fantastic.
The taxis are very cheap about 2 euro no matter how far you go
I will hopefully be returning next year!!

No complaints at all. My friend and I went for a two week break and enjoyed our stay. Rooms were very nice, good kitchen area and nice sized bedroom with safe.
We got locked in our bedroom within our apartment one night but the hotel rescued us in the morning and mended the door handle which had snapped when the door was closed.
Pool area also nice.
Good location, had some lovely meals on see front.
Would stay again !

I went to the Liberty Apartments...
6 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr J OLIVER

I went to the Liberty Apartments with my partner and was very impressed with the room, it was clean, modern and there was nothing missing or broken!
The pool is cleaned every day along with the poolside. The poolside bar is nice but nothing special and the inside of the hotel is again the same but very clean!
There was a couple of things we were not happy about though like the fact that it is a self catering holiday yet if you want to use the kettle then you have to pay for the cord!!
On the last day we had to be out of our room by 12pm and we did not leave the hotel until 6:30pm, if you wanted to keep your room on for that extra 6 1/2 hours then you have to pay 50 euros for it, so we decided not to and got on the plain all sweaty and uncomfortable.
They do not have any washing facility apart from the shower by the pool or toilet. I would not recommend the Italian restaurant next door as it was the worst meal I have ever eaten!
The sauce tasted like packet sauce the steak was just gristle and the potatoes were literally still frozen in the middle! If you don’t like gays I would recommend you stay away from the Yumbo Centre it is full of them literally.
The Kazbar is great I definitely recommend it. The Afrodite is brilliant and the Palmitos Park is good to. We did have a brilliant time and I wish we were still there.
