Aug 2006, Mr S Speller

This wasn't the first and certainly not the last time we will stay at the 'Sofia'. It is a small family run hotel, and if you spend the time getting to know the owners you will find they are some the nicest people you could meet.
This was the first time that we have booked directly with the hotel and found them extremely helpful. At 35 euros a night b&b per room (not person) with fridge, aircon, radio & TV.
I don't think you can go far wrong. The bathroom I would actually class as a wet room (open shower) and it serves it's purpose. Yes the water does take a while to drain, but then again how long do you want to spend in the bathroom when the suns shining and the excellent pool area and bars are calling.
If it's a small, friendly, quiet and extremely clean hotel that you like try the 'Sofia'
Great bbq on Saturday nights 10 euros.

The Sofia hotel is in a nice position...

Aug 2006, Mrs A Harding

The Sofia hotel is in a nice position just off the seafront road and a 2 minute walk to the beach. However this hotel is in urgent need of modernisation and having some money spent on it. Our room had no outlook and the decoration was tired and horrible. Also had trouble with the cats who would come in uninvited if you left the door open.
The owners were obsessed with cats who seemed to have priority over the guests. Also the bathroom flooded very easily and even by Greek standards took an eternity to drain. Breakfast was basic but differed each day and was better than we expected. However the watered down Orange juice was insipid. There was a lovely poolside bar well run. we did have a drink some evenings but the main problem was being bitten by insects which was a particular problem at the hotel. Kambos was a lovely relaxing resort albeit a little windy at times.
If you come here the one place you must eat if you like fish is Nick the Greeks Fish Taverna which is right on the beach. Everything about it was fabulous. To summarize excellent resort but would stay else where next time as overall we did not rate the Sofia very highly.

This is a little gem, if you like the...

Sep 2004, Mr M Wilcockson

This is a little gem, if you like the "small & friendly" holiday. The hotel is situated about 100 metres from the main road which is bordered by the sand/shingle beach. There is a fine selection of bars and tavernas from right on the doorstep to within ten minutes walk and a number of mini marts as well.
The Rooms are clean and welcoming, the facilities being as expected in Greece, although the pink walls take a few hours to get used to but lets face it you really wont be spending much time in your rooms. You can hire a fridge (brand new in 2004) for your room at a good price and also brand new air conditioning units can be hired for the summer months, although in September we didn’t need it as the evenings are on average 14degressC.
The Staff are very friendly and if your lucky as we were they will invite you along to dine with them for great authentic Greek nights...
The focal point of the Hotel is the pool and pool bar, which is open all day and is manned by the owner’s son Visili, a friendly chap who will happily chat with you. Stavros (The owner) stages a BBQ in the pool area every Saturday night and this is a great opportunity to meet everyone and discuss your adventures on this wonderful island. You will even get to meet Mario, the resident guard dog (only kidding, he's a little westy) he happily does his rounds throughout the day and even keeps the cats in check.
Finally and by no means least, Sofia (Stavros's wife, the hotels named after her) makes a mean breakfast and by Greek standards its more than adequate, with a different menu each day (although it is set with no choice), watch out for the doughnut balls, there fantastic.
There’s a real family feeling about this hotel something that is all too rare these days.
Anyway, September 2004 was our first visit to this great hotel and we are going back in the spring, soon to become one of the many regular repeat visitors..
Check it out for yourselves, but don’t tell too many people, it’s a well-kept secret.

The best point about the Sofia Hotel...
3 / 10
Sep 2004, Mrs R Middleton

The best point about the Sofia Hotel was its central position laid back off the main road 2 minutes from the Sand and Shingle beach and some tavernas nearby.
The accommodation itself left a lot to be desired. The walls were painted a sickly colour, the bathroom floor never drained and the rooms, which had no view, got extremely hot unless you hired the expensive air conditioning. It did have a nice pool and an excellent pool bar open until late.
However the garden area and pool area was overrun by adopted cats that were regularly fed by the hotel also a small dog that had the freedom to go where he liked and he constantly barked at you. We are animal lovers but they were a pain in the backside.
Breakfast was basic but good with an unlimited supply of tea or coffee.
Kambos itself is a quiet resort with an excellent choice of good tavernas. The one that is worth a mention if you enjoy fish is Nick the Greeks on the beach. absoloutely superb.
To summarise Kambos is wonderful but you will find better accommodation in the resort than The Sofia

The Sofia Hotel is a 2* hotel...
6 / 10
Jun 2004, Mr D Morrell

The Sofia Hotel is a 2* hotel situated just off the main road-so no traffic noise- and 2 minutes walk from the beach and a selection of tavernas. The rooms are basic and painted a pink colour. For a small charge you can hire a fridge, which we found very useful. The breakfasts are different everyday but no choice and were generally above expectations, except the orange juice, which was awful. It was so watered down nobody drank it.
There is a swimming pool with plenty of sun beds and a superb pool bar run excellently by the owner’s son who was both friendly and helpful. It certainly was the focal points for guests to meet in the evening after they had returned from a meal. We did think the cost of the air conditioning was exorbitant and the owner himself was offhand caring more for his small but harmless yapping dog than the guests. Overall we enjoyed our stay here although it is in need of updating as it is beginning to look tired. Ideal for a chill out holiday.
There is an excellent selection of tavernas in Kambos and 3 we recommend are Nick The Greeks; Chesters and Costas (with the little blue bucket hanging outside) We did not enjoy the Muses Taverna.
