Booked online and wasn't sure what to expect, but this was a great hotel. The staff were very friendly, rooms spotless, and the dining room was large enough so that we didn't have to share a table with strangers. There was plenty of choices in the meals, hot & cold, so... more

Hotel bedrooms are quite old - early 80's - and could do with a complete refurb. My husband and I and our 2 children stayed in this hotel, we were squashed into one room that would be adequate for 2 people. The beds were made every day and clean towels which was nice. There... more

Well looked after
Went with my wife after dropping the kids off for a summer camp. Hotel rooms are basic but adeqaute for although my missis did miss not having an hairdryer. Food is excellent and overall the service is superb. Located right on the promenade within walking distance of shops, morning paper , beach. Area can be noisy at night but the double glazed patio doors can be shut to only hear the air con. Malgrat is small town but all the resorts on the coast run into one another and can be walked to or you can take a kiddies train down to Santa Sue where there is evening market stalls and more larger hotels and seems a bit more established as a resort. All in all a fab hol even though i may be slightly biased by the break from the kids.
Great Budget Hotel, but not in the right place!
Have booked this hotel (half board) through Medhotels.com for a week, excellent value for money! Staff are very helpful; rooms are clean, good, and spacious. Towels changed on a daily basis, complimentary toiletries. I only missed a hair dryer in the room - not available for hire either. The breakfast is great, everything you need / want is there. Dinner was of a good variety, but I have seemed better - I supposed for the price it was excellent! Swimming pool a bit small and crowded with kids screaming all the time. No many sun loungers available - but haven't stay in the pool much anyway. The Hotel is very much in the centre of the resort and a couple of minutes from the beach. It is not fine sand but very course sand which I found very sore to walk on. In the evening I think Malgrat in general lacks of a good entertainment, and the hotel does not offer much - only two nights in a week were good (the flamenco dancing and the Salt and Lemon band). The hotel bar closes at midnight - I supposed this is good for the ones who have rooms directly above the bar (not our case). The building next door has being redecorated, and the noise starts at 8 / 8.30am, every week day. Our rooms were to the side, and the noise can be quite bad. Malgrat is very family type of place, if you are looking for party, young people, or even shopping DO NOT GO THERE. But it is very easy to access other resorts by train. Train station is also about 10 minutes walk. Tossa de Mar is a must. Boats leave 5 minutes from the hotel, it takes just over 1 hour and costs about 18 euros. As the review is about the hotel I would rate it Above average, as it is very good for what we paid. However would not return to Malgrat, we went in a group of seven (family members), otherwise it would have been very boring for us (young couple, no children).
Great Hotel, Fab Location
This hotel is brilliant! Ok so it's not state of the art but it's clean and the people are friendly. The grounds are really pretty with flowers and banana trees and the pool is great. It's in a really good location also. It's across the road from the beach, on the main shopping street, where you'll find shops, bars, restaurants and clubs all the way down. It is five minutes walk from the train station which takes you as far as Barcelona. They did different food every night and we were quite impressed by the quality of it. I would definately advise anyone to go here for their holidays. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be going back here in 2 years.
If you want a cheap holiday then this is it!
We stayed for 5 nights, and were well ready to come home. We booked a twin room, and they gave us a double. When we questioned this, they didn't have any spare rooms and told us to come back in the morning and they would try and change it. When we said we'd booked a week prior on the basis that it was twin, and that a double wasn't what we wanted, they managed to find us a twin room. There is construction going on around 3 sides of the hotel and building starts very early, so be prepared to wake up to drilling and to have no piece and quiet throughout the day. Construction looks like it will continue for many months yet. Unless youre lucky enough to get a room in the front of the hotel with a sea view, then be prepared for lots of noise. The walls are thin, and you're able to hear everything in the next room and passageway. Quiet is not a word that springs to mind when staying here. The room was always well cleaned, although this usually didn't happen until around lunch time, which wasn't pleasant if you had been to the beach in the morning and wanted to shower before lunch. Clean towels daily. The buffet provided many choices, but was pretty much all over cooked or stale - there's lots of people trying to take lots of food all at once - there's not too much consideration for others going on. I couldn't have stood another day of eating there. Picnic lunches are provided if you are out and miss lunch - literally a piece of cheese or ham between white bread, no butter. It was always pleasant to sit by the pool, although getting a sun lounge sometimes prooved difficult as people were reserving them with towels etc, and not enough umbrellas to go around. The hotel itself is central to the beach, shops bars, train station etc. Im not inclined to holiday in the same place twice, so I wont be going back, but if you want a cheap budget holiday then this is the place. Don't stay more than a few days, else you'l need a holiday to recover.
Lovely Hotel
My daughter and I have just returned from a lovely 4 night stay at the Maripins Hotel. Our room was on the 5th floor and had a view over the swimming pool towards the sea. The room was clean, although not very big, and the towels were changed daily. The food was buffet style and was excellent, with lots of different dishes, so there was always something for everyone. The location is brilliant and the time we were there it wasn't too busy. In the height of summer I should imagine it to be a very different story! The train station is fairly close, enabling you to go to different places. The beach is very handy and although it does shelve very steeply, it's nice to go to as there is a pleasant breeze. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Pat, who tried very hard to help us get our suitcase back after it 'disappeared' from the hold of the ResortHoppa shuttle bus somewhere between the airport and the hotel. We are still in the process of trying to sort it out. All in all, it was a lovely break in a very reasonably priced hotel and we would certainly return - as long as it wasn't in the high season!
helpful & friendly
I stayed at the hotel with my friends on my hen weekend. The hotel is lovely, the food was nice, rooms were nice. We had a sea view room & a view of the pool. The hotel is mostly full of 50-80 years olds, but even though me & my friends are 18-26 we had a great time!!!! Means you can go out and have a laugh and go back to a peaceful hotel for a nice sleep!!!!
helpful staff and a clean hotel.
this hotel can be used for groups ie childrens football so may not be a quiet option!!! found the staff helpful and the hotel clean and food buffet style good. it is a "blackpool" type resort, the beach is clean, though u need to use under the road passes to reach the beach. the sand dips into the sea so beware small children
go to eureka!!!!!
Went to malgrat and stayed here, there was 7 of us all together. Me and a friend and her 4 kids and my one. Rooms were ok, we had 2 rooms. Food was ok, staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. One of the kids got stung by a jellyfish in the sea so be carefull!!!! We found a pub called eureka corner, ended up going here most nights. It was fantastic, staff are great especially ben and ryan who my 6 year old daughter absolutley loved!!! If you do stay in malgrat then eureka is a must!!
This place is like Blackpool!!
The hotel itself is ok, I wouldn't rate any higher than that. The staff are friendly and the location is good for the beach. We had a family of four and they crammed us in to a room really made for 2, I did try to get the room changed but they were full. When I say we were crammed in I mean exactly that, we only stayed 5 nights and that was more than enough!! The food was pretty poor, I ate fishfingers one night and it was the best meal I had! Mostly Germans staying here, 40% English and 10% spanish and other. Beach is only short walk away and it is a nice big course sand beach. Train to Barcelona every half hour and it takes an hour to get there, well worth the trip and only 6 euros each return. The resort is really tacky, an awful place really and if like me you are used to going to greece and enjoying the excellent food and tavernas you will be extremely dissapointed (no problem getting a burger or hotdog). The food at the entire resort is the worst I have ever come across, they really have no idea how to cook a decent meal. Only use this resort and hotel as a base to view Barcelona and other parts you may wish to visit and make sure you get it cheap it really isn't worth spending all your hard earned cash on.
Clean, Central but Basic
Just back from a holiday here with my g/f and daughter. The hotel has been recently refurbished and the rooms are reasonable but small. Good base but not the place to go if you want anything other than a place to sleep. Buffet selection limited but OK, hotel entertainment is dire and due to multiple nationalities staying here - British, French, German, Dutch and Spanish - everything takes forever as it done in each language. Plenty nearby though with a street full of British and Dutch pubs just round the corner. We particularly enjoyed Legends for food, Robin Hood for fun and Eureka for both. All in all an OK base but a bit dissappointing, we would not go back here but if you can book it cheap enough go B&B and eat out rest of the time.
