Me and my partner have just arrived...

Me and my partner have just arrived back from the maripins and had a great time! The hotel was spotlessly clean, our rooms had fresh towels everyday and we had a great sea view from our balcony.
The best part of the hotel waas definitely the food, there was so much choice for breakfast and dinner, also at dinner each night there was a chef on the griddle cooking fresh food each nite in front of you which was delicious!
On the evening we did not stay in the hotel we tended to have a few drinks in the british and beachfront bars and a wander down to santa susanna. The train runs every half hour to barcelona and was a bargain, we had a beautiful day out there- i'd reccomend using one of the barcelona tour buses for around 20 euros when you get there to see all the sights.
The only negative things i'd say about the hotel is there are a lot of foreign youths there that are sometimes a bit roudy and on an evening sometimes you have to wait for 5 minutes for a table to eat, but other than that had a great time and we'd definitely go back again!

me and my wife stayed at this hotel from 7/6/08 to 14/6/08.first thing we had a fall out over the car parking although i asked about this when booking in january and was told ok.saturday and sunday the meals were very good and had a very goodchoice at breakfast and dinner.on monday a coach load of spanish arrived they were very noisy and you could not get awayfrom it as there is only one lounge, and it was like being in a works canteen. dinner was from 7pm to8. at 7 10 we were told the dinning room was full and would have to wait for a table; when we went in there were 9 empty tables being set for the spanish for there sitting at 8pm. the food had changed completly with very little choice at all, the same thing happened again on the following night, poor food no tables availlable, getting them ready for the spanish again. after having a word with the dinning room greeter we were given a table.I must admit this is the worst hotel i have ever stopped at in spain and i have stopped at a few as before my retirement i was a coach travel owner and was there every season.so before you go make sure there are no spanish coach parties stopping there

Good hotel, plenty of choice at meal times, although childrens facilities could be improved for younger ones, and pool side entrance should have a gate to hep provent little ones running onto the main street. Fantastic service from the staff, lovely housekeepers and bar, reception and restraunt staff. A very welcoming environment.
Lovely clean rooms and clean hotel.

Returned from maripins last week...

May 2008, danikaye

Returned from maripins last week .nice hotel rooms very basic although clean.Staff very helpful. food was better somedays than others although very repetative. While we were there there was a lot of young people who were taking part in some sport competitions and I have to say they where extremely well behaved in the dining room and around the hotel, although there rooms were in another part of the hotel to us . Apart from that the main occupents of the hotel seemed to be elderly people , I presume because of the time of year, I have also just become a senior citizen but I have to say out of the two age groups that made up most of the hotels occupents the young ones put the older ones to shame. I have stayed in a lot of hotels over the years but never have I stayed in such a noisy hotel as this ,no matter what time of day or night doors would be banging people having loud conversations in the corridors (I don't want to know all your buisness while I'm trying to sleep). then there's the ones in the room above who are up at the crack of dawn to be first in to breakfast and assume that every one else is up as well as they proceed to clomp round there room opening and shutting drawers.(not quietly)without a thought for anyone else. I don't think I would go back to the Maripins its far to niosy

Very enjoyable holiday. We had a room overlooking the sea, small balcony but nice clean room and bathroom.
Friendly staff all helpfull, must mention Darrell, Harrys rep and Pat on reception, nothing seemed too much trouble for them.
We enjoyed the food, plenty of choice ,hot or cold, the Maripins see a lot of English and the choices laid out were fine. We made friends with others who had been many times and the atmosphere in the hotel was laid back and friendly.
Would like to go again this year and understand if you call the hotel they can let you have the same room!
Must also say the coach journey is wonderfull, no stress, no waiting around, good legroom and 3 steady drivers but john needs to put more milk in the " T " !!

My sister and I decided to go away...

My sister and I decided to go away for a relaxing break. We arrived at the hotel just before 9.00pm and were delighted that the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and even offered us our dinner even though the restaurant closed at 9.00pm.
We were pleased with the room, clean and tidy and the maids came in every day and left clean towels etc and even remade the beds for us.
The food in the hotel was good. There was always plenty of variety at breakfast, lunch and dinner and catered for everyone’s taste. There was always plenty of varieties of salad, hot and cold dishes, fresh fruit, desserts at both lunch and dinner. There were also two different soups at lunch and dinner. At breakfast there was fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt, cold meats, cheeses, hot food and loads of different types of bread, sugar covered pastries which were lovely.
The hotel is in an ideal spot and our room overlooked the swimming pool and we also had a lovely view of the beach. The town centre is a few hundred metres away where you will find an array of shops, pubs, eating places. The area this particular hotel is in would be ideal for people who have walking difficulties as everything is on the flat - no steep hills to climb.
To my surprise, the water at the beach was lovely as was the weather around 23 - 25 degrees. It was hard to believe that my sister and I were lying on a beach in October!
Overall we had a great time and would recommend this hotel.

This hotel was very clean and the cleaner came in every day to change our towels and clean our room. The staff were all very friendly. The food was ok but quite often the hot food was cold.
The location of the hotel is very good. A few minutes’ walk from the beach and bus to marine land and Waterworld. It was only about 5 minutes walk away from the train station. We went on the train several times and it was very good.
There is a tourist information office only a few minutes away from the hotel and you can get timetables and maps of places from there. We went to Barcelona fc club and went on the tour. We did this ourselves. We went to the train station and got two tickets to the train station near Barcelona fc which cost 6 euro 20 each return. Then went on the underground metro which we got a t-10 ticket which we shared between us 6 Euros 20 for 10 journeys very good value. Then when we got of this it was ten minute walk to the football club. It cost 11.50 Euros each to have a tour of the football club and museum.

The entertainment at night in the hotel was ok for the older person but not for a younger couple as it included things like bingo.
The swimming pool was nice and clean. Not many sunbeds but we found that there were a lot of flies landing on you. We got use to that after a day. Some people put fly spray on themselves which seemed to worked.
Would recommend for the older person but not younger people.

The Maripins hotel was recommended to...
8 / 10
Sep 2007, geogth

The Maripins hotel was recommended to me and lived up to expectations.
The room was clean and fresh with a bath/shower. Towels were changed every day.
The food I felt was very nice with a good choice at every meal. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Entertainment poolside in the evening was reasonable. Bar prices not over expensive.
The beach is just across the road/railway but don’t let this put you off as the trains are quite quiet.
The resort is very touristy with the usual British type bars i.e. on Friday 31 Aug the main entertainment advertised in these bars was Big Brother Final.
The train station is about 5/10 min walk from hotel. Ticket to Barcelona 6.20 Euros return and takes just over an hour. Had a great time and will certainly return.

Family holiday in June this year -...

Jul 2007, Mrs W Wallace

Family holiday in June this year - fantastic. Resort is absolutely beautiful. Age range of our children 19, 17 and 15 years; they all thoroughly enjoyed their stay - as we did.
Maripins Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms and food are excellent too.
We'll be back (sooner rather than later) for another holiday and will be bringing Mother/Grandmother.
Everything within easy reach/walking distance and would suit elderly folks who may have difficulty walking very far. Train/bus service excellent.
A must is to take the little train from Santa Suzanna (a short walk up the road from Malgrat) which takes you all round the resort and up into the villas and houses in the mountains - the views are breath taking.
Can't wait to return!

This was our first family holiday...
7 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss F Horner

1 reader found this review helpful

This was our first family holiday abroad 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 7 we stayed for 12 days.
The hotel is ideally located on the promenade where you will find an array of shops and bars, 5 minutes away from the beach, the train and buses run directly through the resort which means you can comfortably access surrounding areas.
The hotel has one main swimming pool which is full of older boys bomb splashing, without much regard for others, although this didn’t bother us to much as our children stayed in the shallow end of the pool.
There are not enough sun loungers to go around but there are plenty of table and chairs with parasols by the pool. There is a pool table, a ping pong table and an air hockey table of which 1 euro per game is payable.
The bar area is very clean and tidy, there is a comfortable seating area where a large screen TV showing sky channels can be watched, and plenty of tables and chairs if you prefer to sit in a quieter area.
Accommodation: This hotel has two separate buildings, the main part where the reception and dining room are located and then a smaller building that is less than a minute walk through the double doors at the back of reception.
Rooms are very basic but what more do you need, when you’re out every day. The maid changed towels daily and cleaned the bath area if it looked especially dirty which was greatly appreciated but she didn’t clean the sink. Bed linen was changed once a week, but we were not impressed with the dust and dirt that had gathered under the beds through the obvious lack of cleaning.
Food: The food in this particular hotel was ok, a choice of a cold breakfast such as cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, slices of ham and cheese. Or a hot breakfast boiled or poached egg, English type sausages, German type sausages, streaky type bacon and beans. Different types of fresh bread, such as rolls, white/wholegrain bread.
They also had pastries available such as croissants, sugar covered pastries, a hot pastry was also served which we were later told to dip in the chocolate sauce which could be found alongside orange and lime marmalade and of course butter. Hot drinks were tea, coffee, hot chocolate and the cold drinks were, orange and pineapple juice and water.
Lunch consisted of fresh bread, fresh salad such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, mayonnaise and ketchup. A choice of two meats usually chicken and pork, a rice dish and a pizza dish were served several times during our stay. Chips, ham and cheese slices.
Dessert was fresh fruit, apples, oranges, plums, nectarines. Small tubs of ice cream which the little ones loved, a cake sandwich with a cream filling was also served and a blamange type dessert which my other half loved, I personally couldn’t stand the texture or the blandness of that particular dessert.
Evening meal was much the same as the lunch with maybe a few extra dishes put on usually in the salad section and a barbeque grill was used to cook burgers, pork type chops, and on occasion chicken pieces, I didn’t enjoy any of the barbequed food it just tasted charcoaled with no other flavour and the burgers were grilled then kept in a steamed container which just made them look unappealing, the kids tried them once and wouldn’t eat them again.
Drinks are not provided at lunch or in the evening which worked out to be quite expensive over 10 Euros a day which over 12 days ended up costing us over 100 Euros. We did try to take our own in one evening and was promptly told it was against the restaurants policy, the signs state no food or drink can be taken in or out of the restaurant.
Reception and entertainment: The staff were English speaking and polite but not overtly friendly, we didn’t participate in the entertainment located in the bar area as it seemed to cater for older audiences, although they did have a mini disco. We were content to go for walks along the promenade and stopping off to eat ice creams and other delicious deserts on offer.
I would strongly recommend especially if going with children to book your excursions before you go, they are definitely more expensive over there. For instance i pre booked two trips one to port aventura in Salou which is a three hour coach journey (never again), and one to marine land which is less than 20 minutes away from the hotel. The total cost for 2 adult 2 kids cost me £164 including coach transfers, however if booked over there it would have set us back about 250 Euros, savings of about 20 Euros.
All in all I would recommend this hotel if you want a small intimate hotel that caters to your basic needs everything else can be easily accessed by foot or train.
Needless to say we will be returning next year with grandparents in tow.

The food was great, very tasty, entertainment was awesome and the hotel staff were great very helpful and friendly.
Needless to say we are coming back this July 4th 07 but we have extended our stay this time.

This was the second year I had been...
10 / 10
Sep 2006, Mr ET Taylor

This was the second year I had been to the Hotel Maripins. Only one word, unbelievable! The Hotel has lovely food, excellent room accommodation (each having its own balcony) plus exceptional outdoor pools and bar area.
The Hotel is positioned slightly away from the main road, meaning there is a lovely walkway up to the Hotel. However, it is safe to say the most striking feature is the cleanliness of the Hotel. Not only this, but Malgrat itself was lovely. A collection of shops, patio bars and even English pubs make the 24 hour coach journey all worthwhile.
As you would expect, Costa Brava beaches are always branded superb and Malgrat certainly does not lower expectations. It is safe to say that we will be returning to the Hotel Maripins next year, and I strongly advise you do too.
