More Traveller Reviews of Oasis Tossa Hotel
Bland but bearable
from Wulfrunian
We have just spent three nights at the Oasis Tossa on a half-term family break. We didn't have particularly high expectations. Having bought return flights to Barcelona for a ridiculously low price we were just looking for a clean, quiet and relaxed hotel in a nice resort. We had never been to the Costa Brava and were delighted with Tossa, which completely destroyed our preconceptions of this part of Spain as haven for Club 18-30 binge drinkers. North of Lloret the coastline is stunning, and Tossa itself is very attractive. The walks around the battlements of the walled old town and up to the lighthouse were memorable. Which is more than we can say for the Oasis Tossa...On the plus side it was very clean throughout. The rooms and bathrooms were reasonably smart, there were nice indoor and outdoor pools and a whirlpool. On the downside the plasterboard partition walls between rooms really do give you the impression you are sharing a room with your neighbours. How the mangement can resolve this situation without a major refurbishment is anybody's guess...The bar and lounge areas are very small for the size of the hotel and as one previous reviewer commented there is a lamentable lack of places to sit after dinner. The rather tacky bar area is not very inviting, but at least the drinks and snacks on offer are reasonably priced. The service was mixed. We found one of the receptionists offhand and almost rude, although the others were pleasant enough. The basement restaurant receives very little direct light and visually is unappealing, but unlike some reviewers we considered the food rather good. The choice at breakfast was excellent and at dinner, while vegetables were overcooked, everything else was fine. The choice and quality of the desserts deserve special mention. These were very good indeed. As in the bar area drinks were reasonably priced and the house wine more than acceptable. The imminent winter closure of the hotel perhaps partly explains some of the hotel's failings. The sauna wasn't working, nor were the guests' internet facility, the pool table in the bar needed resurfacing and none of the gym equipment appeared to be working properly. When we tried to book the sauna there was not even an apology from the one receptionist with an attitide problem. Given the cleanliness and the good-ish food the hotel's failings were bearable. However, the Oasis Tossa completely failed to deliver the air of wellbeing you hope for from a holiday hotel. If this had been a main family holiday and we had paid peak season prices we would have been far from happy. It is becoming increasingly obvious that official hotel ratings are little more than an exercise in window dressing and should be treated with caution. The Oasis Tossa falls some way short of the four star mark...
Oh for the quiet life

Have just returned from an 8 day stay at the Oasis. First the bad news. The walls between the rooms were not in any way soundproof,I feel we could have had a conversation with our friends in the next room! How do the spanish locals put up with the continual barking of those dogs? If I lived there I think some thing would have to be done about that. That said, the Hotel was spotlessly clean and the food excellent. There was a lot of fish dishes available as it is one of the local delicacies but if like me you do not fancy any of them then there were plenty of alternatives. You would have to be following a very strange diet if you could not find anything there to your liking I would definately recommend this Hotel as I really enjoyed my first trip to Spain. PS, If you are looking for good evening entertainment then I would consider going into town which is only a short walk away.
Our fourth visit to Oasis at Tossa
from RockChickJan
We visited the Oasis at Tossa for our fourth holiday from 19th to 28th September 2006. We were thinking of writing our latest review of Oasis when we read the previous review and thought 'this is us'! Our room was at the front of the hotel, and although everything about the hotel is fine, I must say that pesky bleedin dog that lived in the villa opposite the hotel barked from morning till night every day!! We didn't sleep much coz, as before, the walls are paper thin, (we banged on our bedroom wall a couple of times, due to a French couple who arose every morning about 6am!!!!!) However, we found the hotel as good as ever, with the food in the evening more than acceptable (1st time for us half board), bring ear plugs and try for yourself!!
Sleepers paradise?
from sammythehammy
Have today returned from a weeks stay at the Oasis, and am longing for a good nights sleep. Our room was at the front of the hotel and if is wasnt coaches pulling up outside, the local dogs living opposite the hotel barking nearly all night long it was the people next door banging about, shouting or having their tv on full blast till the early hours, which kept us awake. The walls are so thin you could hear people go to the toilet in the middle of the night when it was quiet. The hotel itself is lovely and the rooms kept nice and clean and fresh towels daily. We found the cleaning staff, waitresses and receptionists very pleasant, the chef who cooked meat fresh in the dining room could be very moody. The food was very repetitive, pork or veal was on the menu every night, chicken was on once and then it was only drumsticks which were more bone than meat. The lifeguard never turned up until about 4pm every day to provide towels for residents to use at the pool but by this time people were drifting away from the pool. He then used the pool for his own use. Tossa itself is very nice and clean and we wouold certainly go there again. We travelled with Thomas Cook and had no problems with their reps, they were very nice and helpful. The entertainment at the hotel left a lot to be desired, it was very amateurish, the lady doing the karaoke evening couldn't even operate the machine. Apart from the weather (we only had three days sunshine) we enjoyed our stay at the Oasis and would go again.
Overall - a good holiday
from sun_worshipper79
Spent one week at this hotel with my partner and a 4 year old child. The hotel is spotless and the beds and towels are changed daily. The entertainment programme was great for families as it catered for all ages. During our stay the entertainment provided included a magic show, local music night, reptile show, flamenco dancing, and more. The pool was very clean and provided your there before 10:30 you will get a sun lounger without bother. The food was ok and varied. We went half board and the breakfasts were fine but the lunches and dinners were not great and the food was not always hot. However there is a chef who always cooks fresh food while you wait and we found that if you went over to him (he was in a different place than the buffet), he always had something tasty on offer. The staff at this hotel are not that friendly and do not speak good English, however this did not put us off and we will probably go back here. Tossa itself is a beautiful place with lovely little cobbled streets and stunning views in the evening.Overall a lovely holiday and I personally wish we had been there longer.
Great time at the Oasis
from Chrismary
Just returned from a weeks stay at the Oasis Tossa. The hotel is very clean and in a quiet location but still near to town. There was a good choice of food for breakfast and dinner. We had a room at the front of the hotel and had no trouble with noise either early morning or late at night. Tossa is a lovely resort and has not changed very much since the last time we were there, sixteen years ago. We will definately go again and would stay at the Oasis again.
Only maybe ratesa 3 star at Oasis Tossa
from A TripAdvisor Member
Travelled as a mid 50s couple and were disappointed with the hotel. We certainly did not rate the Oasis anywhere near a four star grade, having stayed in four star hotels in other areas this was nowhere near to the standard it should have been. There was not a comfortable seating area within the hotel where you could relax after your meals; the bar area was akin to a dining area again with no comfortable seating, just tables and chairs. The pool area had insufficient sun loungers and no cushion pads for them, most unusual for a four star hotel just to have to throw a towel over plastic slats. The noise from the bar area was uncomfortably loud some evenings, and at times children were aloud outside late at night when other people were in bed and they were constantly shouting. The walls between the rooms were very thin and we had to bang on the wall several times at turned 1.30 am to get people to stop talking as loud and stop moving furniture about. The food was only really good on three occasions and very rarely more than luke warm; and only 2 or 3 of the dining room staff were cheerful, and only 1 or 2 of the other staff within the different areas of the hotel were cheerful. However, the hotel was only 5 minutes walk to the beautiful little streets of Tossa de Mar and the beaches, and the resort itself we cannot fault, absolutely lovely, no lager louts or 18 - 30s, what a treat. Very cosmopolitan area and all people very nice. We would certainly go back, but definitely not to the Oasis Tossa.
2nd Stay at Oasis Tossa
from Bikerjim
just returned from our second stay at the Oasis Tossa. The hotel was as good as we remembered from our last stay two years ago, the rooms are spotlessly clean (including bathrooms) with maid service everyday (although the ladies who clean the rooms make a hell of a racket at about 8am on their way round the rooms - we didn't need alarm clocks)! We stayed bed & breakfast with meals served in the dining room downstairs from reception, again fabulously clean, and a decent selection of food for breakfast, including pastries and cakes! The bar and pool terrace area are also of a high standard with waiter service for drinks and snacks. We love the resort of Tossa and are busy planning our next stay later on in the year - Happy Holidays!!
Hotel Oasis Tossa no way a 4*
from susieh
Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. Read some reviews before we went but we like to form our own opinions. The hotel is situated very close to apartments overlooking the hotel pool and they can also see in your hotel room. Also childrens nursery opposite and another hotel very close. The food is the worst I have ever sampled from a hotel. It is luke warm and with a very limited choice. I travel abroad regularly and am keen to sample different types of food. For a 4* hotel it is just not acceptable. I have to say the hotel is very clean and rooms are cleaned regularly. The hotel staff are pleasant except in the dining room they all look really sad. The only reason I think this hotel is a 4* is because it has an indoor swimming pool. I would not stay here again and would rate it as a 2*+ at a push! I am not a negative person but feel that people should be fully in the picture before booking this hotel.
Eight days at the Oasis Tossa
from PooleSunnyDorset
Spent 8 nights at this hotel September 2005. The room we had overlooked the pool and was cleaned spotlessly by our chambermaid. Room was large bathroom large and clean fresh towels and bedlinen everyday. Shame they didnt think to put an English programme through the Satellite. Food was good but not 5 star. We filled up our bellies every night. Hotel is nice and quiet at night. It is a short walk into town which was very welcome after the meal. Tossa de Mar is great. Not one English cheap and nasty fish and chips grotty cafe in sight thank goodness. It is very Spanish and long may that last. Try and speak a little Spanish, it goes a long way. I would recommend a stay here, but dont jump into the outdoor pool its freezing. We hired a car which was great, the scenery out and around is fabulous. If you like dogs go to the dog sanctuary at the back of Tossa and they will let you take one for a walk free of charge. I got a great big black dog which took me for a walk.

Just returned from a family holiday to Oasis Tossa comprising of myself, husband, two teenage boys, 9yr old and parents in their 70's. Rooms were very clean but basic. Aside from Peter, the entertainment man, all other staff barely spoke English and the reception staff... more
