Ideal for a short break
from rorycat
Stayed here for 3 nights 5 - 8 July and would re-iterate what the other reviewers have said. The hotel is in a good location 5/6 mins walk from the bus station and another few minutes through the old part of town to the beach. My opinion would be that the hotel would best suit couples or families with younger children who are looking to relax and chill. There is a short walk uphill directly in front of the hotel, however, this should not present a problem unless you require a walking aid or wheelchair. We stayed in room 330 which was a corner room with a (partial) sea view, pool and garden view. Although the rooms are fairly small they are adequate, spotlessly clean and there is a full bathroom. Top marks to the maid service for fresh towels, sheets and the general standard of cleanliness not just in the rooms but throughout the entire hotel. Although the pool is small it has good sunbeds and bar service. We stayed on a B & B basis and there was certainly sufficient choice at breakfast - even for a vegetarian! The evening entertainment appears pretty limited but the resort itself is full of good restaurants and reasonable bars. The beach becomes very busy so be prepared for a bit of a crush at least until about 2pm. The area around Tossa is very nice and you can explore either by car, the excellent bus service or by the small ferries which ply up and down the coast. Tossa definately offers a different experience from its louder and brasher neighbours Lloret and Blanes and it would appear that it is trying hard to keep development under control. In summary an excellent hotel well worthy of its 3 star rating and with its excellent bus links to Gerona airport (see SARFA timetable on the net) Tossa makes an excellent short break destination or a base to explore both the coast and Gerona and Barcelona.
Loved Every Second!!
from bridget-x
Hi everyone!! I went to the Hotel Neptuno in Tossa about 2 years ago now and now every holiday i go on has never matched up to it. The hotel is beautiful and always very clean. The staff are amazing. They just added to the holiday feeling, they where cheery and very helpful and share many jokes with travellers-we loved them!!! (Especially as if you ask for a vodka and lemonade they put about double vodka as you would get in an English pub!!) Therefore we spent a lot of time wondering how we got so drunk on two glasses of it!! The food was also good. I cant believe anyone would say its bad! Some of it was sometimes cold but the chefs wouldn't grumble if you ask for it reheating-there is such a selection and its a buffet waiting for everyone to come down to dinner so its hard to keep an eye on every dish. Like any european hotel, you have to be early to get a sunbed by the pool or if you go down to the beach there is small charges to have a sunbed for the day. There is also a castle on the beach which is amazing to walk up either for a romantic walk at night or to cool down in the day as there is always a breeeze! We also took a boat trip which was also really good, look out for these as they go from the beach every day. The little town of Tossa is really nice, there is a wonderful atmosphere. Plenty of supermarkets, restaurants and pubs and if you want lively night life another town in the costa blanca is Lloret De Mar which is loud at night with pubs and clubs galore. Like i said, Hotel Neptuno is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, I loved every second and dreaded coming home.
Great little hotel
from bazzaperth
A great little hotel, we stayed three nights in June 2007. All the staff, from reception to cleaners were friendly, the bar staff were very happy to serve and always kept their sense of humour. The room was quite adequately sized and kept spotless.Towels were changed daily. The restaurant was also very clean and bright, the food was always hot and presented well, although the selection of food was a little limited, but we aways had a good meal. There was almost no entertainment except the obligatory flamenco night while we were there, but the guests were friendly and conversation with them was easy. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a small traditional hotel away from the "lager louts" of other resorts and we would have no hesitation returning to this hotel in the future.
Great vacation hotel
from MarMir
Neptuno is in a great location - sure, it is not right on the sea, but walking to the beach from it takes you through the town - a nice experience. Also, the location is very quiet. Rooms are rather basic, but the bathrooms are newly renovated - spacious and modern; a balcony is a nice plus. Breakfast, included in the price, is quite decent. Parking at the hotel is limited, but you can usually find parking close by on the streets. Hotel also appears very child friendly. There is a pool (with a kids corner), giant chess, pool table, etc. The only people I would NOT recommend this hotel to are those who have trouble going up a hill - it is a bit of a climb to get to Neptuno. Other than that, it's a truly great choice for a vacation.

Best hotel in Tossa for us

Board Basis: Half Board Date of Holiday: Jul 2006 Tour Operator: Airtours Submitted By: Mrs J Rey Overall Rating: 9/10 Comments: Just had an excellent holiday at the Hotel Neptuno, Tossa de Mar. The hotel is only about two minutes from the town, down a steepish road and about 7 minutes from the beach. The hotel is spotlessly clean, towels changed every day and bed linen every three days. Make sure you ask for a room on the front as the back looks out on to the cliff. The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you (ignore any reviews which say otherwise and just make the effort to chat to them - you will find them delightful). The food is adequate, plenty for breakfast and good - the evening meal is plentiful but the standard varies, however the desserts are lovely. Bear in mind that this is a 3* hotel and air-conditioning is included in the price, there is waiter service round the pool and it is in a prime position. Because of the hotel's position the pool area does have parts which are shaded some of the time during the day but you can use the solarium which gets the sun all day and also you can sit in the gardens (but only on towels). There is some sort of entertainment on most nights although we prefer to walk to the town and people watch (there are plenty of bars for that but none, thankfully, which call themselves 'British Bars'!!). Tossa is not a resort for young rowdies - it is ideal for couples of any age and families, all of whom seem to love it as we do. There is a castle and old town at one end and it is an easy climb to the top where there are magnificent views over the bay. The cost of the holiday was reasonable and we cannot fault Airtours as both our flights left on time (even though our return journey was only three days after the terrorist scare) and the in-flight meal was the best we have had for a long time. We will definitely be returning to the Hotel Neptuno in the very near future.
Wonderful Hotel!
from AL1965_7
Just returned from a 5 day stay at the Neptuno, booked through Go2Spain. Had never been to hotel or resort before so didnt know what to expect. What a wonderful surprise. Firstly the hotel itself. Yes, I can see that the hotels' size & facilities make this no more than a 3star. However, the hotel is excellent value for money and probably the best in the town. The location is superb - only a short walk into the town. It is up a slight hill however, but in a quiet location. The hotel is very clean throughout. The downstairs' rooms are very tastefully furnished in "traditional" style - bedrooms are of normal size but they do have small balconies. All rooms overlook the (smallish) pool area, and from thetop 2 floors there is a pleasant view over the town. The gardens are superb! Previous reviewers have praised the hotel gardener and I can now see why. The food wasnt the best I have experienced in this grade of hotel. Dont go to the Neptuno expecting a culinary experience. My two complaints was firstly with the lack of variety (hardly anything for vegetarians, for example). Secondly, the restaurant layout just needs some common-sense applying to it. The 1 toast machine is next to the 1 fruit juice machine which in turn is next to the 1 coffee/tea dispenser. And all this is beside the salad bar. This makes for a very cramped and busy part of the restaurant! Otherwise, food was hot and plentiful and drinks reasonably priced. The hotel staff were friendly enough, as were the fellow guests. The clientele seem to be a very European mix - not many Brits -comprising of either families or mature couples. Thankfully this seemed to be a hotel (and resort) free from stags, hens, lager louts, single youngsters etc. The town of Tossa is amazingly beautiful! It has retained a lot of its' olde worlde charm. Lovely cafes and restaurants lining the seafront and many more inside the Old Town. Plenty of shops. Beach can get a bit crowded in summer though - my advice is to take one of the plentiful & cheap boat cruises and admire the breathtaking coastal scenery. Buses leave to nearby Lloret De Mar every 30mins weekdays & Sat, less than 3euros return, and from Lloret it is very easy to then go on to the other coastal resorts such as Blanes. This was only of the best holidays I have had. Go to the Tossa and the Neptuno Hotel and see for yourself. You wont be disappointed!
Great Value
from smh1954
This hotel represents wonderful value for money and in my experience can not be beaten for a short break that does not break the bank. I booked the hotel on the basis of other reviews and confess I agree that the food at dunner is no more more than adequate. However for the price I am surprised anyone could have expected more than adequate. We paid 62 euros per night - for the room, not each- for room and half board and the room itself was of a standard to make this a good price. We chose to eat in the hotel only once in a three night break but I expected tio make that chose even as I booked. If you go to Tossa don't miss the oppotunity to eat in one of the wonderful atmospheric restaurants in an around the old town.. The hotel has a good sized bar but to my mind anyone who stays in the hotel at night is misising out in seeing Tossa de Mar itself - a marvelous resort, small and bustling with lots of charm, character, and lots of lovely bars and cafe's to sample. The hotel rooms are clean with daily maid service and fresh towels etc. - what more could anyone want? We had a second floor room which looked out over the old town across to the castle and sea beyond. The hotel is idealy placed, just up one of the narrow roads leading from the beach - perfectly quiet at night and ony 300 yards or so from the hustle and bustle of a great litlle resort. I will certainly stay in this hotel again.
Excellent value for monday
from CrystalK
We booked a week at Hotel Neptuno based on the reviews on this site. We bought hotel, flight and car hire through Expedia at a very reasonable price. We found Hotel Neptuno to be excellent value for money. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and there was entertainment by the pool three nights during the week we were there. Food-wise it was fine. We stayed half-board so had breakfast and evening meal at the buffet. There was always something to choose from and although it was not haute cuisine, for the price we paid it was perfectly adequate.
Great location and excellent value for money
from HayesSaffronWalden
We have just returned from a four night break at the Neptuno at the end of May and thoroughly recommend it. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the location was great - the beach was a 5 minute easy stroll through a pleasant array of shops and just a stone's throw from the old city walls. Although our booking was for half board, the hotel was very reasonably priced and, apart from breakfast which was fine, there was such a choice of restaurants that we ate out throughout the holiday. Meals ranged from excellent sardines and tortillas for lunch at the Cap d'Or just before the ramps of the castle to tapas at La Luna within the city walls and oven baked shoulder of lamb at Can Pina just outside the castle tower. A visit to the castle and tiny stone cottages within its walls shouldn't be missed and the views of the bay are superb. Would recommend coming slightly out of season - i.e. May, June or September as the heat and crowds would be unbearable in July and August. It was a freak 29/30 degrees when we were there (we weren't complaining!) but the norm is around 24/25 end May/beginning of June which is just right. Tossa is only 45 minutes from Gerona Airport by hire car which couldn't be easier, served by cheap Ryan Air flights from Stansted and I could manage a short break here every year!
excelant value, having only paid £337.0 each, very clean good location, food simple but very well cooked. Dinner started at 8pm, perhaps a little late for young ones, and some queing, but great friendly staff. and will look to return again some day
