The hotel didn't look like a 4 star hotel. The room was tiny, not very clean and there was no fridge in the room. But I guess most of the hotels in Lloret were quite old so good luck with finding a better option!

Excellent - really good hotel The Aquarium hotel is situated in the perfect location of Fenals which you would not know was not actually in Lloret De Mar as the 5minute walk to Lloret is lined with shops and hotels and seems that it is all part of the same. Lloret itself... more

After reading all the comments both good and bad on the Aquarium, we still went with an open mind. Since this was the first time we had been abroad for Xmas and New Year, we were looking forward to something different. On arrival at the hotel we were impressed on the look... more

Not what we expected from Thomson holidays. Not up to 4 stars or 3T+ as Thomson describe. I would give it 2 star status. Food choice and quality was very poor. Situated near the fire + ambulance stations, so you will hear constant sirens (all hours of day/night). In a very... more

4Star hotel? I think if you are used to posh 4* hotels you are in for a shock as we were! I would rate it 2 star myself from previous holidays. The hotel is clean & the staff helpful & friendly, but the bedrooms are very noisy! we had 1 nights sleep during our weeks stay,... more

You get what you paid for
Went on a very cheap family holiday here. Place is quite dated – 1990’s style and food very average and rooms small and pool overlooked by another hotel. If it is really cheap go but other wise don’t 2* is about the right rating but it is clean and staff are good
mother-in-law was'nt there!
Overall a good clean hotel. It does'nt merit a four star rating, probably more like a good two star. Could'nt complain about the cleanliness of the rooms or communal areas. Food good but not too varied. As in other reviews its ok if you like continental style breakfast i.e. cake, cheese etc. Staff very helpful. Dont book a room facing the reception area if you want an early night. The in-house entertainment is on till about 12 midnight every night and the noise echoes up the open area in the centre of the hotel. Beach at Blanes is 5mins walk and very clean and sandy, but watch out for the steeply shelving entrance to the water.
Great Value
The hotel was very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. I stayed on a half board basis and there was a wide range of choice at breakfast e.g. meat, cheese, bread, cooked breakfasts, cereal and again lots of choice at dinner. The other guests were mostly from European countries other than the UK and the hotel is most definitely popular with families. The pool is a decent size (plus a children's pool) and there is also an indoor pool which unexpectedly was put to use due to a little rain!! The hotel was excellent value for money and I would recommend it / stay there again without a moments hesitation. The location is good for the beach and also approximately 10 minutes walk from the centre of Lloret away from the hustle and bustle. I did not expereince any rowdiness at night time in the hotel.
holiday hypermarket/first choice hell!!!
From the minute we booked this holiday on [--] (who are in conjuntion with First choice) it was a disaster. some how the holiday was booked 3 times online lol. we finally got our money back for the two other wrongly booked holidays after around a week. then they didnt send us the emails we needed to use at the airport for the plane tickets and transfers/ hotel etc. so we had to mess about ringing up for those. they finally got sent. When we got to the other end at Costa Brava we had to wait for a transfer which we had paid for online with the hypermarket. the transfer didnt turn up for 2 and a half hours, and then it turned up he had been there all the time, he just didnt know what the hell he was doin! then we all got on the mini bus and the guy was having a cig, wasteing more time and he didnt speak a word of english so when it got to our turn to be dropped off he drove straight by our hotel. i tryed to explain to him he had drove by, so he drove back round and muttered something in spanish, we got the feeling he wanted us to get out the bus so we were dumped in the middle of the road to walk up the hill to the hotel ourselfs..very strange lol. the hotel was really everything it said it was going to be, so i can not slate that, it was lovely, the only down side was that there was a shortage of english people. Apart from the it was in a good location near the beach. finally at the end of the week we had to phone up to see when our transfer company was going to pick us back up, the lady on the fone told us the time and i asked 'outside the hotel?' she answered yes. we waited the next day on time and the transfer didnt turn up! i rang the company and they sed they had gon, they had waited at another hotel! what is the use in ringing up to check when and were they are coming if they dont inform u. so i had to get a taxi to the airport myself. and to this day over 28days later from complaining to the holidayhypermarket/first choice i am still waiting for them to get back to me, so beware of these companys and the transfer company melitours.
Recommended to anyone
The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the beach and 5 - 10 minutes walk from the centre of Lloret. There are shops, bars and cafes located a short walk from the hotel although you need to go into Lloret for the livelier nightlife. The food is good always a wide selection at all mealtimes. The hotel doesn't have alot of English staying so the staffs English is not great but more than acceptable. Maids cleaned our room everyday and the receptionists were always helpful. I don't know why people mention the noise at this hotel because there was no sign of this during our stay. Overall I would recomend this hotel to anyone as it is ideally located to meet a variety of needs.
NOT a 4* hotel - but still OK.
My Girlfiend and I went here using Airtours/My Travel for a week's break. We arrived at 2am in the morning, and the hotel had no room booking for us, but managed to sort one out for us. This was NOT their fault, but the fault of MyTravel (Who I will NEVER use EVER again as the Rep and the company are Beyond USELESS). Anyway, the hotel, is very clean, and tidy. The staff are very nice and accomodating. They reception staff don't speak amazing english, but you can get by. The Rooms, are basic (i.e NOT a 4* as advertised), with 2 singles pushed together to make a double bed. No Coffee or tea or kettle, or fridge. Bathroom, was neat, tidy and the shower was excellent. I read a review sayin this hotel wasn't noisy.. am sure they must have been staying in some other hotel, as it was really bad in the mornings (6-7am). The Maids and the other staff would make a LOT of noise wheeling their carts etc around the floors. The water pipes made a bit of a racket too in the morning, when the early risers got up to go to breakfast. Also in the evenings, the refuse collectors come and pick up the rubbish around 11pm, and if you have your balcony door open, then its is Very noisy. The food in the restaurant is buffet style and there is a lot of food available, however a lot of it is repeated every night. The desserts are very good and worth trying. The entertainment is not very good and is squarely aimed at small kids and mums / dads. We felt that this hotel was mainly frequented by French and Russan/east european families -this mainly due to us seeing only 1 engilsh couple. The hotel Pool is good, but make sure you claim your sun lounger early on the far side of the pool, as the side nearest the hotel doesn't get any sun until 1 or 2pm. The life gaurd is always on duty and is very good with the kids. The hotel is NOT 5 minutes walk from the centre of Loret de mar, unless you are a VERY fast walker. I would say more like 10-15 minutes. The centre is for the younger teenagers and is full of disco bars etc, but we found a nice italian restaurant in the back streets. The beach is very close and is 5 mins walk. Its nice (though the beach is actually made of fine gravel). Overall the hotel is good, clean, basic and if you get it at a good price (i.e NOT the brochure price), then i would say its worth it.
A great hotel
The best thing about this hotel is the location, situated only 5 mins walk from the centre of Lloret i.e. shops, night clubs bars, it is also very close to the beach. additionally there is a supermarket about 30 seconds walk which sells anything you will need. Hotel staff are freindly and willing to help, rooms are v clean and are tidied daily. (i.e. fresh towels). The food is pretty good, there is always a selection of cold meats and bread (breakfast and dinner), also there are different main meals availble every day so you dont get bored, such things as pizza, chicken, pork, lasagne, pasta, sea food and much more. they also have a salad bar, all food is buffet style so you can eat as much as you wish, deserts are also great! The pool is ok, having a main area and a smaller area although they weren't particulary warm.. there is also a gym which is a bit small, didn't use it though. overall iam v happy and would return again, only gripe is that depending on where u are staying, you maybe next to a road which can be noisy with scooters n cars. This hotel is not noisy, so no lager louts here! GREAT FOR FAMILIES!
perfect for a base
just back from the Aquarium, only just opened for this season, hotel is freshly painted and new fittings, still in a good position to travel along the costa brava, Unique Qualities: Food was good but remember they cater for the spanish customer, cost for half board was 37 euros each weekends and 25 euros midweek, per night per person the good thing is you pay on your departure total 5 nights half board 362 euros or £250 sterling Rooms clean and fresh, little bit of noise at night, Would recommend a return visit as a base to tour around, staff friendly no major issues. Remember not many british come here, so live and eat like the locals Book on line direct
weekend away
My son (17 years) and I decided to have a weekend in Spain with the intention of going to the Barcelona football match followed by a couple of days in the sun and for that reason decided to stay in Lloret. Our initial hotel choice was closing down the weekend we intended to travel and as a result we were asked if we would be happy at the Hotel Aquarium. We agreed, and on arrival were a little bit apprehensive as it's not the most picturesque hotel I have ever stayed in. However on entering the foyer we were immediately impressed with the decor (spotlessly clean), and the staff who were possibly the most polite and helpful I have ever met in a foreign hotel. All staff spoke excellent English and gave extremely helpful advice regarding both the local area and Barcelona itself. The room was spotless and furnished to an acceptable standard with double curtains which kept all external noise out. The buffet meals were not 'cordon bleu' but were of a very reasonable standard. All in all a very pleasant weekend and I would have no hesitation in reccommending this hotel to anyone.
First time holiday away with the kids!!!
As first time holiday makers abroad with our 2 children ( aged 9 & 16) overall very enjoyable. Hotel room very clean & basic but for 4 of us sleeping in one room was hard work. External noise at night not a problem even with our room on the road to lloret. food was acceptable if you are German! A bit of a selection of english food wouldn't go a miss ( for the children especially). Pool area was excellent! Nightlife in lloret was a bit much when you are with kids (apart from queen vic). Much better drinking in the local spanish bars in Fennels, you are made to feel very welcome. Don't bother stopping in the hotel at night, as the entertainment is aimed exclusively at French/German guests. Fantasic beach 10 minutes walk away. Sea is clear but has a steep slope to get used to. Would go back again!
