Stayed here in Oct 2009 and had a fantastic time. Thought the villa was great, and would agree with prev. reviews comments about the road up! We also found it best to drive up past the Villa (which is 1.4km up the road and not the 1km stated in the Cosmos info - and make sure you follow the sign for Apolisies), turn round at the road junction past the villa and then drive up the steep driveway forwards, in order to park. There are stones arounds which we also placed behind the wheels for extra security.)
Well equipped villa (now has air con upstairs in bedrooms)although Cosmos rep told us there is a complete renovation planned for closed season 2009/2010 and so may be completely different for the 2010 season. I hope they don't lose the character of this traditional villa. We thought is was great as it was, although we would have liked a better lounge area with comfy seats.
Lovely views from the pool area over the bay.
The weather in October was mixed, but generally fair. Quite a few tavernas etc shut for the season, especially the beachside tavernas in Nissaki. We went to Vitamins and Anthi tavernas on the main coast road and thought both were great. It was nice that everywhere was quiet and the locals were very friendly.
We spent a lot of the week exploring by car - especially the north coast villages and up to Mount Pandokrator. The road up the mountain can be hair raising, but is easy to negotiate and you are rewarded by superb views in all directions.
We also enjoyed Corfu town, although the parking can be a nightmare and the mopeds are everywhere.

Where is Villa Sophia Nissaki? From Corfu town drive into Nissaki and turn left at the Aphrodite supermarket, for the hamlet of Apolisies and go up and up and up. Go onto Google earth and find the villa's location at:
Latitude 39°43'46.11"N
Longitude 19°53'42.37"E
We stayed last two weeks in May. Well equipped lovely old farmhouse villa lacking only air-con. Great views. Beautiful location. Good base for walks up to Pantokrator, the local hamlets of Viglatouri and Katavalos or the abandoned village of Old Sinies. A place to chill out amidst the scent of spring flowers in May and the heavy scent of jasmine by the pool. The North East coast contains the best of Corfu - great pebbly beaches good for snorkelling, sunbathing, boating and tavernas. Far less of the tacky, brashy "Brit" resorts that can make much of the Corfu coast a depressing place. The locals are very friendly and welcoming. Favourite taverna - Il Parea one of the 3 tavernas on Nissaki beach which had the most scrumptious food for veggies.
The road to the villa is long and steep, winding with blind bends and unfenced drops. Terrifying the first time in your left hand drive hire car but your confidence will build and UK driving will seem boring and safe upon your return. Not recommended for high season because there is no air con and fans (not supplied as advertised in the COSMOS brochure). Car is essential as the walk to the beach is about 30 minutes downhill and hard work coming back up in the heat. If you do not have a car the local supermarket will deliver and many tavernas will offer a lift home. A place for walks, peace, quiet, flora and fauna but not a lively night life - more lively resorts are within 20 minutes or so north and south of Nissaki. Mosquitos voracious - bring plug in devices for the bedrooms and tropical strength repellent for sitting outside.

Just come back from Villa Sophia and we missed the sign for Apolisies. Reversing back down a mountain on an unmade road in a LHD rental car was not funny. The drops were awesome and the bends hairpin. The COSMOS instructions only say follow the road for approximately 1km and the villa will be on the RHS, the Apolisies junction is a Y junction well before the villa and you need to take the left hand fork, to me the right hand looked more straight on. Once there however the villa is fabulous and we did not want to leave. The owner lives nearby and was brilliant, most helpful and has refitted the villa to a very high standard. The views are stunning and the facilities in the villa excellent. The one downside is it was not really as private as COSMOS suggested.
