Marismas Club Resort Apartments Reviews

9 / 10
Aug 2007, Miss E Dowley

I have just returned from a fortnight staying in the Marismas Club Apartments, and it was great! There is loads to do - the swimming pool is shaped like a river and although this seemed a bit peculiar at first, we soon realised that it was a good idea. If you want to swim... more

A great find
We stayed with our 2 girls (ages 6 and 4) in August 2006. We had a 2 bed apartment. Very clean; as others have said, it's new and everything worked. There is a large Carrefour 8kms away that stocks everything you'd need if you're self catering. We checked the reviews before going and found them to be largely accurate. This place is VERY Spanish, which we loved. Probably 90% of the guests are Spanish. To really enjoy it, get on to Spanish time - breakfast 10am, lunch 3pm, dinner 9pm or later. Even the kids disco doesn't get going until 9:30pm though they do face painting every night from 8pm. Food was fine. It's buffet every night but this is a Spanish focused hotel so the food caters more for Spanish taste. It didn't cause us a problem. Pool area is spacious and there are loads of sunbeds - not a single towel on them before 9:30am! You could come and go at any time and would be guaranteed to bed a space. The kids club is more of a 'drop in' - it's open from 10am to 6pm and people seem to drop in the kids as and when rather than leave for the day, though you can if you really want. It was well staffed, they spoke good enough English and our girls were happy to come and go. As another reviewer said, the play area by the dining room is an excellent idea - our girls played here every night before the disco while we finished dinner. We flew via Faro, hired a car and went to some of the nearby beaches - miles of sand, no crowds, even the sea was warm despite it being the Atlantic. Overall, it's pretty quiet which we enjoyed and was fine with younger kids but if you have active teenagers or are looking for a lively social life and the chance to meet lots of new people it may not be for you.
many activities for the kids
A very nice hotel nearby a golfclub. Most guests are spanish or portugees. Many activities, especially for kids between 10 and 15. My sons loved it. sufficient sunbeds nearby the pool. Only the service and variety in the restaurant was a minor. We had a 2 bedroom appt. which is ideal if you go on holiday with your children.
Quiet, relaxing holiday!
My nine year old son and I have just returned from a lovely relaxing holiday at the Marismas Club. I read all the previous reviews on this website before booking and they gave me a very good idea of what to expect. The hotel is exactly as described. It is situated in a very quiet area of Spain near a quiet fishing village called El Rompido. There is not much to do there and if you are looking for a typical tourist holiday then this is not for you! However, it was what we were looking for! A quiet retreat in rural Spain - the hotel receptionists spoke good English and were very helpful. Most of the waiters and housekeeping ladies couldn't speak English - but we were in Spain and even though I can't speak a work of Spanish we communicated well! The hotel has two lovely pools, which are kept clean and there are plenty of sun loungers. There are several snack bars and as we went all inclusive my son enjoyed his fair share of all inclusive ice creams! The food was good, although buffet style, we only went for a week and I can imagine going for 2 weeks you would get a bit bored. The quality and hygiene was superb. The rooms were kept very clean and were of a good size, a separate bedroom with a kitchen and living area. We hired a car, which I would recommend as you can explore the area. There is a very good waterpark 5 minutes up the road and we visited this several times. We also went to Punta Umbria, Huelva and Cartaya and as it was only 1 hour from Faro we went into Portugal for a day too. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as good value for money - but only if you want a quiet holiday!
Lovely hotel in quiet location
Stayed at the Marismas club on last minute deal for a long weekend and werent disappointed. Lovely setting amidst the golf course next to the sister hotel the 5 star El Rompido Golf. Facilities are shared so good selection of bars/restaurants/pools. Marismas club is better for families. Great kids play room, and kids club. 3 nice pools. Decent buffet as buffets go with good selction and variation and main buffte restaurant looked over the kids playground so was easy to get some peace from them whilst keeping an eye on them at the same time. Rooms are spacious, and hotel kept very clean. Staff all friendly, bar service a bit slow at times though. El Rompido itself is a beautiful little village just down the road, but Marismas claim of Beach resort is a little misleading, as you have to get a free 5 mins mini train ride to the local boat and then 10 mins across the marina to the beach (all included and good fun a coupla times but would get a bit tiring if you wanted to go every day). Some other really nice beaches about 10 mins drive away but you probably need a car as didnt see a bus or a cab all the time we were there. Dont expect busy nightlife. El Romido and the area are beautiful but very spanish and very quiet .
Brillante
Be sure you know what you want in a holiday
Just got back after a very good week away. Overrall I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a VERY quiet week away at this time of the year where all you do is chill, sunbathe and don't want too much entertainment (well any actually) aside from your own friends and that of people you meet - bliss for me and my mate! Hotel - spotless and staff friendly, even if they cannot speak much English - great fun trying to make ourselves understood, but hey when in Spain..... Apartments are a nice size and everything appeared new. We were All inclusive so didnt need the microwave/kettle but apparently they charge Euro 2 per day each for hire? Beautiful view over the golf course/river and beach. Pool - excellent, water absolutely freezing but it didnt stop us swimming and sunbeds very comfy Food - Breakfast was great with a good choice. I would surprised if anyone complained. Lunch and dinner - average. As with most AI buffets you get bored after a week. The snack bars are just about ok. There is an 'Italian' open Friday/Saturday and AI guests can visit once per week. We found the food to be good here and it made a change to be served- but people appeared to have mixed views. Be warned about the alcohol content in the drinks (I wasnt complaining!) but they are VERY generous measures. So, bearing in mind there was little anywhere else to eat, we were pleased we went All Inclusive. Location - VERY isolated. The rep said El Rompido 'shops' were open until 2pm then reopen at 5pm. Siesta at this time of year starts at 1pm and goes on until about 6pm (even in Seville) so if you go on a trip bear this in mind. We found the few Tapas bars in El Rompido to be sporadic when opening as this is the end of the season - hence why its blissfully quiet - but if you are looking for variety and something to keep the kids occupied - I wouldnt go here at this time of year. Only one bar remained open Supermarket on site - far too expensive -ok choice - El Rompido a 3rd of the price. Free 'train' into El Rompido every half an hour. Last one is at 6.45pm so if you eat out, you will need to walk back - circa 30 - 45 minutes. Free boat out to the beach is a must!! Great beach walk for miles, no facilities though so you need to take food/drink with you. Chap on the boat sells drinks. There is an awful lot of development going on in this region and sadly I wonder if it continues at the rate it appears to be, then this resort won't be as unspoilt in the future. Finally, wish I played golf! Course looked superb.
Wonderful holiday!
We spent 14 nights at The Marismas Aparthotel and it was excellent. The staff were very good and always cheerful. The room was lovely and always clean (cleaned everyday). The facilities were very good and the children loved the outdoor play area and the pools. The hotel ran a train every 15 minutes to the beach and the children loved this 'adventure.' The food was very good and showed Spanish food at its best but also had a good mix of European food too. We had such a lovely time exploring the hotel and the area that we are going back this August again. The nice thing about this area is that it is not crowded with British holidaymakers and you get a real feeling of real Spain!!!
so so
Suprised at the room, we thought we'd have a sofa bed for the kid in the lounge but turned out he'd got his own bedroom. We had a good sized room with on suite shower and bath. There was also a small shower room.Kitchen small , well equipped, Large patio. Its a modern, tastefully furnished place with large comfy sofa's in the public areas. Alas... Our air conditioning leaked and was faulty. The breakfast was good but blimey, the evening meal.Absolutely terrible and I really do like my food from any continent but I struggled to make a meal of much of it.Worse aspect, one had no idea what any of it was .There seemed massive overcompensation in the mountains of avaliable desserts however. There was no "entertainment" at all.The bars were pretty empty except a couple or two having a quiet drink. Pool area was good , clean and safe. But here's what they did which was despicable. On the last two days they had opened the hotel to 12, yes 12 coachloads of under 16 year old kids. The first night was chaos.Shouting, screaming etc well into the night. The second night was slightly calmer .But it leaves you thinking, who could do such a thing ?. ElRompido itself is a lovely village and the beach shuttle is well worth it.
We enjoyed a fantastic holiday
We have just returned from a fantastic 9 day stay at the Marismas Club resort. We had a 2 bedroomed appartment which was clean and well equipped. We had maid service everyday and the rooms were kept spotless. The hotel grounds were being constantlly cleaned and maintained and the pool area was fantastic. The buffet restaurant was very good value for money and the hotel provided very good entertainment both during the day and the evening. The staff were always very polite and helpful,.
Unhelpfull staff!
Went there for 3 days two weeks ago. We has a one bedroom apartment. Not very clean, even if it is new it is not very well kept. Buffet dinner and breakfast: the worst! To go to the beach you need to take a free little train (15 minutes) and then a free boat (ask for tickets at reception, 15 minutes too) It is a nice desert beach, no bars to by drinks or food. The staff is not helpfull at all. You need a car if you would like to visit the region or if you want to dine out.
