Hotel El Rompido Golf

Being of Spanish nationality, we were not impressed by usual Mediterranean hospitality or good weather. We do not play golf either, so we can't rate the greens. But we do have our experience in good hotels around the world and expected a bit more in term of food and service. To start with there were (in August 2004) only one restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and a poolside bar for lunch. There was not much variety in the buffet from one day to the other and if the poolside bar was closed (yes, even in sunny Spain it can rain in Summer) you had to eat in the restaurant, but from the poolside bar menu. A 5* hotel should at least be able to offer a proper á la carte menu. All the food was good though. The waiters were indeed friendly but a bit slow, which can make you loose your patience, and that of your crying baby too. My wife went to the spa to have an aromatherapy treatment, but got a very common treatment that she herself usually buys in health-shops. As you can see there are no big complaints, but just small things that you wouldn't expect from a 5* place. On the other hand, the 10 min. train ride (and following boat ride that noone mentiones) is worth it since the province of Huelva (not Seville!) can boast to have the most incredible mile-long dune beaches in all of Spain. Rented car in a must to enjoy the wonderfull fish restaurants in nearby villages, where one can enjoy a drink and a bit of music after dinner !

We have just spent a week at the El Rompido Golf Hotel and would comment as follows.The hotel is fantastic, we had a suite and it was bigger than the house we live in.Everything about the hotel is luxury.The staff were great and the food superb, something for everyone and plenty of it.The pool and facilities were spotless, a gym for the healthy and a spa and a beauty salon for the pampered.The golf course is fabulous.Not much to do at night however the sister hotel The Marisima had entertainment.A free road train was available to take you to the beach,a good 20 minute walk. El Rompido is a very Spanish fishing hamlet. Plenty of resturants and a nice beach.It is advisable to hire a car to have a look round.We managed to visit several places including Seville.
