The four stars are well earned. This is a very relaxing place to stay in a quiet part of the old town-within easy walking distance of many good restaurants.
The welcome here is very friendly. All staff speak really good English and are very helpful and courteous. It tends to cater for the more mature visitor-the atmosphere is peaceful and really relaxed(no screaming kids)
The quality and choice at breakfast is high-waitress service for your tea/coffee is most attentive.
There is a really nice pool area with plenty of sun loungers.
The health centre is very quiet-a small gym, jacuzi, steam room and sauna are hardly used.
The hotel is very clean and the interior modern- the maid service is excellent.
A room with a view is extra-our basic room had no balcony and the window looked onto the street at the side.
Overall I rate this hotel very highly and would reccomend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in nice, friendly surroundings

We booked this hotel as we wanted to celebrate our Silver Wedding in style,we were not disappointed. The hotel was superb, the staff could not do enough for you and we had a fabulous holiday and special anniversary all in one. If we could have stayed longer we would have done and have fallen in love with Madeira, Funchal and the quinta bela sao tiago and will be going back again. If you want to have a lovely holiday or celebrate an anniversary or have your honeymoon and have never been to Madeira then stay here and fall in love with Madeira and the Madeirans. The rooms are big, the staff cannot do enough for you and the food is very good, lots of lovely restaurants within a short walk and Funchal shopping a 15 minute walk away, what more do you need. If you go, call in to the Espirito do Banco and say hello to the Brazilian Clairebear and ask for an anderson gin.
