This was the first time I had been to Ithaca, and going just on the edge of the season was perfect. Simply Travel a small company now I think owned by Thomson just have some superb added touches.
From the moment we were picked up at Kefalonia airport and taken to the port to go by Ferry to Ithica I knew it was going to be different, rather than the large general ferry, simply offered a small ferry with a really personal service from the rep, once on the other side the inclusive car hire was sorted quite quickly and we drove to our apartment...the scenery along the way was so beautiful it literally took the breath away. In the apartment our welcome pack included fruit and bread and a fully stocked fridge with wine and beer.
The appt itself was spacious, well designed and had a lovely rustic feel to it, TV (which we never used) aircon and a lovely shared pool outside. Cleaned regularly by a little old lady (one of the owners who spoke no Greek but chattered away anyhow). They supplied everything we needed including a torch as it gets dark at night when you walk back from a meal in the harbour. The views down to Kioni harbour were gorgeous.
Look it was so lovely I am going back in October. Kioni and neighbouring Frikes were friendly and quiet...although we were warned mid season the island is very very busy and a bit frenetic.
We drove around visiting different sites, Vathi is worth a visit and a visit to one of the Monastaries...there are also some fine walks; everywhere we went friendliness abounded.
The place is idea for couples and families looking for a quiet holiday, and for those who do not get uncomfortable with peace and quiet and just the sound of lapping waves. You can taker a boat out and discover quiet coves all to yourself from Kioni... the beaches are not that sandy though the water is inviting, they do get the odd jelly fish and sea urchin, so take some plastic sandals to swim in.
Food and drink was a basic Greek standard, and there is not alot to do but chill out catch a few rays and read talk and drink.
Ithica and Lykoudi apartments combined to be one of the best Greek holidays I have had.

These apartments and this resort are so fabulous we really shouldn't tell anyone else about them.
The lady who cleans is called Martha and she is the mother of the owner, Poppy. The apartments are well laid out, very clean and the air conditioning is very welcome- fairly unusual in Greek apartments. You will knock your shins on the wooden corners of the beds a couple of times! The steep walk back uphill from the village is best achieved at a sedate pace, and better still if you can get someone else to carry you.
Beware of the cats who hang around the Tavernas - they seem cute but they are feral cats who have no fear and will get up onto the tables and steal the food off your plate!
