Marco Polo Hotel

A beautiful island, clean and picturesque, the people polite and friendly, proud of their lovely country. The hotel was clean with reasonable facilities, outdoor unheated pool, and indoor pool. Food, buffet style, plentiful, continental style. Lots of delightful little restaurants and bars in the area. Local transport is cheap and reliable, and easiest way to get around. Try visiting the local wineries to sample local delights. We found end of September most places were closing down for the winter. Weather was good, but evenings could be chilly this time of year. Avoid Bon Repos area and camp site which was absolutely filthy, rubbish everywhere over the site and a real let down compared to high standards everywhere else. Many many interesting historical buildings and museums to visit in Korcula and the mainland, reasonable admission charges. When visiting the Franciscan monastery in Orabec over the bay, call into Vincto's upstairs taverna just along the road before you reach the monastery. He makes his own wine, and will cook you a lovely fish meal(but you may have to drink lots of red wine)
