The Hotel Villa Vilena is a lovely, family-run hotel where one is made to feel really at home.
All the staff are very friendly and whilst the daughter Elona is the only one who is really fluent, they can all speak and understand a certain amount. Elona's paintings are hanging everywhere and add to the unique character of the hotel.
Perhaps we were lucky to visit in the second half of May, before the real season started and with the temperature’s in the low 30's, but the resort and island were lovely and not overcrowded. I fear that in a few years it will have developed and its charm may be diluted. However, nothing can detract from the great beauty of the area and the warmth and friendliness of the people.
Not for those expecting a nightlife and you need to be reasonably fit to make the most of the walks as the hills are steep but the views from the top are magic.

We found this a near perfect hotel. The service was excellent and friendly and made us feel honoured guests. This is not a hotel for the "knees up" types, being quiet and exclusive. The no cars rule on Lupud was much appreciated, although VV did have a small three wheeler to transport guests' luggage from the harbour (a distance of 80 +/- yards !
The decor and fittings were first rate, every care having obviously been given to maintain a high standard. Perhaps the one area where VV fell a little short was the dinner menu which was limited and di not change during the nine days we were there. What was served was to a good standard. However, there are several good restaurants in the village, so you can right the changes.
For a gentle stroll the sea front (1/2 mile long) is undemanding, but as Lopud is hilly one has to be prepared for steep paths most other places. The one beach (on the other side of the island - 1 mile ) is good but a little disappointing. The comings and goings of the several ferry boats provides interest from the hotel terrace, but oddly, no windsurfers seemed to be around (unlike the UK) VV has a good swimming pool and terrace 200 yards up the hill, but there does not appear to be a bar there.
On Lupud you have to be prepared to provide your own amusements, but having traveled on business and pleasure to many countries, VV is the best hotel we have encountered.
