Rethymno and Veneto Hotel - a VERY MAGICAL experience
We only spent a single night in this magical hotel, by default as the Ferries stopped running every day - we had to cancell a 5* night in Santorini and stay somewhere en-route between Heraklion and Chania- well this was one of the most fabulous experiences of our 5-week visit to the Cyclades - we are VERY sorry that we did not stay longer. We rented a car to meet the ferry @ Heraklion @ about 9:pm - drove to Rethymno arriving @ about 11pm ( A VERY arduous drive at night on winding roads and impatient drivers - also the opposite side... more
Ideal not only for business!
Due to my business requests, I choosed Veneto due to the unique location. In fact you can do and find everything in a walking distance. Though, I was offered an excellent 3 day hospitality, and I will for sure come back for holidays!!
Romatic place to stay
We spend some wonderful days at the Veneto. The room was very clean and pleasant, with a very nice style. The location is great, you stroll around in the evening and you're right in the centre, but in a quiet street. We also had dinner twice at the restaurant which was the best food we had, very tasty and the two waitresses are really charming. They also serve you a fantastic variety of wines, all in a romantic garden area. We can definately recommend both the rooms and the restaurant!
Disappointed
We stayed in Veneto Suites in May, 2008. Location: Excellent, in the heart of the best part of Rethymnon Room: Quiet (double-pane glass), clean Staff: Cordial, but somewhat unresponsive Price: High, considering value received Problems: Minor, but annoying (stove burner didn't work, staff couldn't get it corrected during our 4-night stay, spiral staircase was not fun to go down to get to bathroom from bedroom loft in the dark) Didn't live up to the great reviews we had counted on.
The site of deseption
We have seen the site of Veneto suites. Very luxurious suites. We have booked one and we got there for a weekend! When they showed our “suite” we were speechless! A simple hotel room (bed, bedside table, simple bathroom, nothing fancy), not very clean! The only thing that was of a suite was …..the price! At the beginning we thought that we booked in another “Veneto” but that was not the case! Surly there were suites like those in the photos at the site! The only problem is that we didn’t see them! We only pay for them!!!!
Something special
We stayed at the Veneto just one night at the end of our stay in Crete. It had looked lovely on the website and was just as good in real life. It is tucked away in the middle of the Old Town in Rethymnon and is not accessable by vehicle. This was made clear when the booking was made so we parked our car by the Fort for €5 for 24 hrs and took hand luggage only as we were just staying a short time. Our room was beautiful. We had a balcony and a private terrace covered in bourganvillea. Unfortunately, there was a heavy thunder storm that... more
Beautiful 15th Century hotel with great food!
This is my 2nd time staying in a suite @ the Veneto, and I know I'm going back. Restaurant has GREAT authentic Greek food. Staff is helpful. You're right in the middle of town.
Sweet little hideaway
We spent two nights at the Veneto at the end of our tour of Crete and absolutely loved it. It is not easy to find, at the end of a tiny alleyway in the maze of Rethymno’s old town so you will need a good street plan. Like another reviewer said, it is mainly a restaurant with a few rooms, and the restaurant wasn’t open for the season until the day we left (17 May) so I can’t comment on the food. However, the Venetian building is absolutely gorgeous and the rooms beautifully restored and furnished. Our room was the one in the... more
Charming place, though not 5*
We spent three nights at the Veneto as part of a larger stay in Western Crete. We had our new baby in tow as well as our toddler. It was the first place we visited with him, and this meant we stayed in the hotel more than we'd have otherwise. It also rained a lot, so perhaps not a bad thing. The hotel might better be described as a restaurant-with-rooms. The restaurant came first and is the main focus. The hotel is really tucked on, and did not really have a permanant desk etc. As previously noted, you can't really drive to the... more
Wonderful!!
We stayed at the Veneto in Rethymnon for one night, and our only regret was that we weren't there longer. The restored Venetian building is absolutely beautiful; every room is different, and the tranquil courtyard is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Our room had its own entrance from the courtyard & was in what used to be a stone vault (?) so we really felt the history of where we were staying! It was large and simply but nicely furnished, and had the best bathroom we saw (shower was normal 'American' size). I also peeked in some... more
