The Aloni Apartments were fantastic....

The Aloni Apartments were fantastic. They were large, spotlessly clean, with a daily maid, always very pleasant. The pool was a good size and again, cleaned daily - obviously their pride and joy. The bar food was excellent. Other restaurants within easy walking distance were the Sunset, Irene's and very close, Bahaar. They were all very reasonable and the choice wide, food lovely. The village wine is worth trying - slightly like weak sherry by the end of the season - I'd like to try in June. The beach is lovely, swimming easy, and within walking distance. Buses go to Chania about 4x a day, and easy to pick up a bus further afield if you want to. Well worth a stay.

We have just got back from Crete,...

We have just got back from Crete, What can I say about the Aloni apartments? They were fantastic, the views from each of the 15 apartments were amazing and in the evening the sun set was wonderful.
The apartments were very clean and well looked after. Julia the manager was fantastic and was always on hand to help you if needed. If you want a quiet and relaxing holiday then this is the place for you. If you have children then they will also love it.
We have a 16 year old and a 5 year old and both thought it was great. You are not near any large resorts but there are a couple of nice beaches nearby. You will need a car although the airport is only 15minutes way.

We booked this holiday after seeing...

We booked this holiday after seeing it on teletext. The agent we used was very helpful, telling me all the information he had to hand & then telephoned me back to inform me that they had changed our suite to a larger one, away from the crèche as we were an adult party.
The accommodation had to be the best we had ever been in before. Immaculately clean (rooms cleaned daily except for Sunday’s,) the welcome pack also was excellent, more than adequate for 4 adults. Car hire for our stay was included with the deal. The Aloni had an indoor small pool small gym steam room and a very nice outside pool with a small pool for children. A cafe /bar next to the pool. If I HAD to find fault it would be that the bar closed too early 9.0pm, but this may be due to the fact that it was early in the season.
The beach was about a 20 mins easy walk from the accommodation. Sea was crystal clear and the beach sloping gently. Taverna, loungers and toilets (a bit basic) were available.
It has to be said that you can expect aircraft noise from this location due to its close proximity to airport, 15 mins drive. It is also a military airfield so you do get to see the jets flying over. We found it all interesting and did not spoil our holiday one bit.
Chania is about 25 mins drive and not to be missed.
The harbour is beautiful especially at sunset. We can recommend the "Taman" restaurant on Zabeliou St. just behind the harbour. Food is wonderful and very reasonable; the inside is on 2 levels with a wonderful atmosphere. Also visit the market where you will be able to buy the best value Greek herbs anywhere. A VERY LARGE packet (bigger than a bag of sugar, size not weight) for only 4 euros. Leather belts cut to size and many more thing of interesting sights & smells.
Unfortunately we had our very 1st experience of being taken for a ride in all our 20 years of visiting Greece. We would not recommend a restaurant. It is next to the old town wall on Potou Street at the top of Konilaki St & Skoufon St. with live Greek music. They bring you a menu then take it back off you and recommend you try their Mothers specials. It was not good and very expensive. They do not give you the chance to see the price as they have taken back the menu we paid 126 euros for something inedible. After our complaint (& we were not the 1st) they reduced the bill by 25%. And that was far too much!
If you take the time & trouble to learn just a few words of Greek it will be so much appreciated particularly around here
Where it is not a big tourist area.
We loved our holiday and would not hesitate to return hopefully very soon!
