Cortijo de Martin Villa, Frigiliana, Spain
Hotel Information
Hotel Description:
A spacious hideaway set in a delightful rural corner just outside Frigiliana. Cortijo de Martin is a charming cottage-style cortijo set in its own tidy grounds with avocado trees and olive trees with great views overlooking a valley filled with olive trees and the distant coast. Spacious accommodation of a good modern standard is on offer here. loading...

I found the quality of the accommodation to be of a good standard, but you need to be aware that there are steep stairs to the lower level of the accommodation. In addition, the living/kitchen area is somewhat dark - but necessarily built that way to avoid direct sun and heat. Bedrooms and views from the house on the upper level are good.
The pool is fairly small and from 1m to 1.8m deep. Children could not be left unsupervised. However, the outside terrace where most outside living/dining occurs is close to and overlooks the pool. We found that it was not a stress to supervise the children because of that.
The grounds are pleasant and private with a view to the sea and surrounding hills.
The one stress for me - although it may not be for everybody - was the access road. This runs for a few kilometres mostly along a height with fairly steep drops to either side. The (cement) road is passable by a single car only, with occasional passing points and driveways to move into to permit two cars to pass. In an unfamiliar left-hand drive hire car on the right-hand side of the road, backing up is not fun. The last approach to the house is on a mud road, with a fairly sharp 135 degree turn on a height. You get used to it, but my wife did not enjoy this aspect at all.
Nevertheless, I had a very enjoyable holiday overall. Frigiliana and nearby Nerja both have character and charm and provide suitable faculties for families with children.
