Big disappointment
from A TripAdvisor Member
Maybe our fault for expecting too much - but we'd read so much about the Costa de la Luz and how fab it was, and ditto the Hurricane Hotel, that we were expecting big things. And all I can say is that it was OK, but that's about it. And in the case of the Hurricane Hotel it was less than OK. Rooms were so-so (think decent backpacker standard), and breakfast buffet was good, and it is bang on the beach - those are the good bits. But it's way out of town, which is inconvenient, and the staff were quite spectacularly rude at times - waiting...

Honeymoon at the Hurricane !
from dr_manhatten
Hello 2 all ! I found this little gem of a place through tripadviser. The Hotel almost has a kind of "Goa, India" feel about it - very relaxed and simple in design. Here's the breakdown ! Service : Not bad, could have been better. We did find the staff a little impatient at times but most were nice. Room : We booked the "sea-view" but couldn't catch a glimse of it from the communal balcony, but still worth the extra couple of quid as opposed to being on the other side facing the road ! The actual room itself has a very...

It's an institution - and I don't mean a prison
from Seaside-Sarah
We already knew that the Hurricane had a reputation for unreliable service when we booked. However, 3 days at 100% Fun (just up the road) with unrelenting traffic noise outside our windows and no air-con in a small, dark stuffy room persuaded us to try it for a bit of a treat. The staff can be a bit surly but you are in Southern Spain after all! A few words of Spanish soon wins a bit more warmth. Upsides - the peace and quiet and quite wonderful setting - try the large pool near the gym if you're not kid-friendly. It's a lovely, quiet...

Rude staff and a cockroach!! Not what we needed on our honeymoon!!
from member222
having booked the luxury suite at the Hurricane for our recent honeymoon, we were extremly disappointed by the cold welcome we recieved. The staff are not only unfriendly, but down right rude. As for the room; very basic, the bathroom was dirty, a cockroach crawled out of the sink and the shower mouldy. We couldn't wait to get out of the place!

I think your comments unkind. Cockroaches are prehistoric creatures and can survive atomic bombs and weapons of mass destruction! We have the hotel fumigated every three months but there is always one that gets away... Besides, you will find many more cockroaches in five star hotels in cities such as Los Angeles and New York than in the countryside! As for the staff being rude??? If they are so awful how come we are always full? 99% of our staff is Spanish and do not speak perfect English, so perhaps there is a communication problem-- anyway, at least our staff our individual and not robots trained to say a fake 'have a nice day'... As for the luxury suites... they have a 40 square meter living room with fireplace, satalite TV, airconditioning, wonderful sea views, minibar etc. plus bedroom with kingsize bed. The bathrooms have handmade tiles and Arabic arches and people fight to book them! I find it strange you say you 'could wait to get away!!! -- Jose Vazquez, Manager.

This is a good hotel packed with families from the UK, Germany and Spain. It is a 3 star hotel than charges 4-5 star prices (at least in the high season). People seem happy to pay these prices because it is the best hotel in the area. There have been complaints in this forum about the staff. I found the staff to be very good and any problems were language related. The food is also excellent and the wine list is reasonably priced. My only complaints were that the rooms and bathrooms were a little shabby, there was a sewage smell around the...

Shame about the staff
from Yaddy
This is a great hotel for the money - nice views, good food, beautiful beach, charming gardens - but the staff are truly awful. We arrived early, full of the joys of spring, but the miserable girl on reception soon brought us crashing down to earth! Us: "Ola! We have a reservation." Receptionist: "Harumph...you're early...room not ready." Us: "Oh, no worries, we'll have a coffee and leave our cases behind the desk if we may?" Receptionist: "Harumph...they're a bit big." (They were just regular flight crew-style...

Hotel Hurricane was heavenly
from dabney2126
My husband and I found this hotel online, read this website and went for it. We were so thrilled as it is in such a idyllic setting and had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation celebrating our 25th anniversary. The room was clean with a firm, queen sized bed and a very spacious bathroom. The terraces in front of each room had tables and chairs (4 rooms per terrace) and a view of lush gardens and copious bougainvillea. We, like other reviewers do HIGHLY recommend the ocean view room. It is well worth the extra Euros. The food was the...

Welcome to Fantasy Island
from Melon
On our arrival my husband said it reminded him of watching Fantasy Island as a child and was waiting for characters to appear. We had a lovely time here, we requested a beach side room which I would totally recommend. The hillside is a busy main road, this would have spoilt the ambience. Our room was nice and spacious, great king size bed, nice furnishings. Best breakfasts in Spain, lovely big buffet with some really nice features: selection of fruit, cheeses, meats, breads, coffee from the espresso machine or freshly made pot's of tea....

Fabulous hotel--but not great for kids
from A TripAdvisor Member
As we were able to leave our children with my mother, my husband and I stayed a few nights alone at the Hurricane Hotel. It has a wonderful position on the beach and there are two pools--one for adults only--the other for families. It was great to be able to read for a few days without the sound of screaming kids! The outside dining on the terrace is gorgeous--though I was annoyed with my husband who ogled some of the pretty waitresses! We dined late every evening-- some of the clients said the staff weren't friendly-- but as we both...

Could have been much better
from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is in a perfect position - the beach, view of North Africa and gardens are as good as the earlier reviews say they are. It has a good atmosphere, and the horses at the stables attached to the hotel are much better than those you usually find to ride on a beach. But it could be so much better. Our greeting at reception was terse, bordering on the surly, probably because during our four days at the hotel during a busy period there was only ever one person on the front desk and they were often over-stretched. There...
