Zampugna is a beautiful, 6 apartment Villa, in the Tuscan hills, between Montepulciano and Pienza. My partner and myself spent 2 weeks there in late September and really didn't want to leave!!! The propery itself is stunning, lovingly looked after by Ricardo (the owner) and his family. It is set in about 500 acres of vineyards, olive groves and sunflower fields (all owned by Ricardo).
Based here, we were able to visit most of the local hill towns (Montepulciano, Pienza, Montelcino, Montefellonico, Chiusi and so on). We were also able to get the train to Florence and to Rome (the trains are amazingly cheap!!!!), visiting The Accademia, Ponte Vecchio, Santa Croce, The Duomo in Florence, and the Vatican, Colisseum, the Pantheon - The Vatican is well worth a visit - entrance is free and it is beautiful. The Sistine Chapel is only open in the mornings and apparently queues start VERY early. For the galleries in Florence - I would advise booking in advance it can cut down your queueing by about 2-3 hours (particularly for the Uffizzi gallery)
We had a magical 2 weeks (and got engaged at the same time), so I would HIGHLY recommend staying here to anyone.
