Beautiful views, pretty hotel, expensive restaurant
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is pretty and sits a few kilometers outside of Cortona. While this could be considered a negative, it is nice to escape the noise of the city and escape the tourists. The rooms are small but clean and charming. The views of the Tuscan landscape are exceptional. If you're looking for peace and tranquility than this is a nice spot. For my family it was a bit dead. The restaurant is pretty but the food is bland by Italian standards. As a rule, it is better to hit the trattorias and osterias rather than eat in the hotel...

We stayed in June 2004 and were disappointed. Room was average at best and there were very few common areas in which to to relax and enjoy. Property seemed small and there were two large boxer dogs roaming the property and bothering the guests. Compared to other estates that we have visited in Tuscany, this was not very enjoyable. We agree with other reviewer that Villa Vignamaggio is a much better experience.
Stayed at Il Falconiere last Spring

My husband and I stayed at this Hotel last May 04, to our surprise the Hotel is not in the actual town of Cortona, it is located in a small village called Camucia about 5-7 minutes down the hill from Cortona, the road to get to the Hotel still undone, unpaved, and it's hard to drive back to the Hotel at night, the road illumination is very poor. To us the Hotel was very clean, our room was nicely decorated in the rustic Tuscan style, we loved the view, but our praises go the the friendly staff who really does everything in their power to...

Disappointing, Worth Rescuing
from A TripAdvisor Member
With considerable expectations we revisited after 4 years. It is now an American hang-out for obnoxious loud people looking for something that their consistent cells phones can decide. The food is totally "dumbed-down" full-fare textbook American Italian. No more grappa cart; a far cry from the great fare of 4 years past. The best room is to the left of the chapel. Staff is still good. This is a beautiful property overrun by a culture that cannot handle tranquilityl.
Not worth it...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in June. We were underwhelmed and disappointed. I agree with other reviewers that it is overrated. The staff are quite friendly and very professional. As well, the room that we stayed in was very nice. The view is OK, but not stunning. That said, Il Falconiere is simply not good value for money. The food was outrageously over-priced. We had far superiour meals on the trip at much more reasonable prices. If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing villa to spend a few days in the...

Just okay

We stayed in one of the cottages on the hill with a pull out bed for our daughter downstairs. After a snack of dry prociutto and melon and fruit salad for $70. we decided to eat out and ended up making a fantastic picnic on the lawn with food from the Coop market. The sunset and views are spectacular but bug bites abound. Not many children in sight and a kind of hushed library mood to the pool. Cortona was a great town to be near and we drove to Assisi, Siena and San Gimignano from this location. The only bad cappucino we had in 3 weeks was...

With all the great reviews we arrived with high expectations. Our experience wasn't up to the hype. Room was acceptable, large but cheaply furnished. Bathroom disfunctional, ditto the air conditioning. Food good but with a commercial feel. Great outdoor dining ruined by out of control screaming kids. Snotty receptionist who insisted we were checking out a day too early, got nasty about it and when she discovered her error, didn't apologize. Overall service didn't measure up to our experiences in other fine Italian hotels. We are going...

What a view!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I spent four lovely days here. Food excellent, perhaps a bit pricey, not the best I've had anywhere, but the terace view overlooking the plains below that stretch forever over fields of sunflowers and poppies, a railroad in the distance, the towers of Cortona, sunset, the breeze, it is a magical spot...The rooms are clean and well kept; ours was not luxurious, but the pepople working there were incredibly nice, the surrounding area (I jogged through winding country roads) perfectly Tuscan; a bit of a haul from Florence (I kept...

Lovely property, food not up to the reviews
from KaraAlison
Stayed here on our honeymoon: it is an absolutely lovely property. The rooms are charming, and the views beautiful. The overall feeling is pristine, almost too much so for the romantic old-hill town area. The inn's restaurant was billed as one of the finest in Tuscany, and we felt that wasn't quite accurate. It was very good, but a fortune, and honestly, not nearly as good as the food as several more casual inns and agro-tourism spots we visited. Dinner was included with room rate at the rustically charming Casolare di Libbiano outside of...

Italy at it's finest
from A TripAdvisor Member
This is somewhere very special and I heartily commend it to anyone. We have stayed here twice and were captivated by it's special atmosphere on both occassions. We had a simple but beautiful room in the main villa for our first week. We especially liked the view through the haze to Cortona towering above but the comfortable bed, beautiful ancient monogrammed linens and the attention to detail were all much appreciated. The shower room was superb with lovely old tiles and every modern day comfort you could hope for. We returned for our 25th...
