"Welcome to Paradise!" the locals shouted as we lagged our suitcases along the sandy track towards Villa Leila and how right they were. Gumusluk is truly a magical place and we feel very fortunate to have stumbled across it. This is a place where time has been allowed to stand still and because of the various archeological findings both in the water and on land, no development is allowed. In an age of concrete hotel jungles how refreshing is that!?
If you want thumping discos and touristy food then choose to go somewhere else but if you are happy to while away your evenings in glorious restaurants lapped by the Aegean Sea (Gumus Cafe got top marks with us!), watch the sun set and being replaced by a silvery moon then go right ahead.
You will be hard pushed to find friendlier people than the locals and if your budget allows, then stay in Villa Rafters above Villa Leila instead as the musty smell, especially in the kitchen area, can be a bit off putting. Having said that, the patio area is great for watching the world go by and if you bother to learn a few Turkish phrases, the local waiters will be ever so pleased to stop and chat with you!
Paradise indeed...
