A great hotel, very Venetian by A TripAdvisor Member

Clean, staff friendly, pity the rooftop bar wasn't open, but was Feb. Only there for one night before we travelled south of the island as we didn't land till late. Car was delivered to hotel door next morning. Never have breakfast usually, as get up too late, but it was OK, didn't expect full English and can't eat it anyway. (At least breakfast was served til 10.30) and that was difficult enough to get up for - well, when on holiday!) Would stay there again.

No complaints at all by mouldy
8 / 10

I generally agree with all the comments by previous reviewers, Except for the only critical one-especially as Mikhailis could not have been more helpful or pleasant to us.

We stayed for a week-loved Corfu town (esp[ecially the Liston at any time of day) and excellent as a base to see some of the island by public transport. Why anyone goes for a resort hotel on half board (unless they just want to lie on a beach) when the choice of restuarants here in the evening was so good? We tried six different places-mainly recommended by the hotel, but there were plenty more in the guidebooks-apart from being double charged for the house wine at the Aegli, we had superb service and a range of Greek, Italian and international food. Rouvas for lunch, La Cucina for pasta and the Sailing Club in the Old Fortress for ambience were the highlights.

Excellent location-we had a standard room on the third floor with a balcony and a lovely view of the bay-beds were a bit soft, but everything else was fine and very clean. Cannot comment on the a/c as we didn't need it. All the reception staff were so helpful and knowledgeable-especially at recommending beaches and buses and organising our excursions.

Breakfast was not exciting, but what was provided was fine and always quickly replenished. A restrained and old fashioned hotel with no frills-it suited us fine, although I agree probably three star, not four.We were expecting to spend time on the roof terrace, but it was closed because of bad weather the previous week (the hotel, in fairness, does say that it is only open from May to September), we were allowed to take our drinks up from the bar on two occasions just to admire the views and take some photos.

All in all , very good value for the price-but I wouldn't want to pay their advertised high season prices.

Loved the hotel and ideally suited for Corfu Town by Wiggster
10 / 10

This is a lovely hotel with lots of character and charm. Those wanting full mod cons maybe a little disappointed, however the fact that this hotel is ideally placed in Corfu Town for sightseeing and is clean, makes it a good choice. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Travellers should consider that Corfu does not have the most up to date infrastructure and in a way this adds to the charm of the place, so when enjoying their country you might want to take this into account.

Dreadful - Unfriendly - So NOT 4-star by A TripAdvisor Member
2 / 10

Stayed here for 2 nights on the way to Paxos. Apart from the location, the rest of our stay was awful. The room was on the first floor, in one of the 'suites' - i.e. two sofa beds in the lounge area, and a mezzanine floor with double bed and bathroom. The room was extremely hot - about 30 degrees C - the air con clearly not fully functional. Despite our complaints, nothing was done - indeed we were asked what we exepected them to do on a Sunday. At a 4-star hotel, I would expect something to happen, whatever the day. In the end, my husband cleaned the air filters in the air-con unit, which were FILTHY. However, the second night our room temperature was still 29 degrees.

We were kept awake for much of the night by the clanging of the lift door and the noise of the lift mechanism - AVOID ROOM 20.

When I asked on the first day if we could book supper on the roof terrace for 7.30, the manager (Mikhailis?? Possibly the owner) laughed and asked if we had ever been to Greece before (well yes, actually, I have), explaining that 7.30 was far too early fo dinner. I explained that as I had been travelling on an overnight ferry from Venice, we had our children with us and we were all very tired, Iwe wished to dine at OUR convenience - he got my point, I think. As the restaurant advertises that it opens at 6.30, why can't I eat then?

When I asked for a drink in the bar at 6.20, I was asked by the same man why I could not wait until 6.30. I said I would prefer a drink at 6.20, and so, rather than get me one himself (a simple matter of walking a few steps and removing a tiny individual bottle of wine from a fridge and giving it to me with a glass), he obviously wanted to make it as difficult as possible and called another waiter from the roof, to get it for me.

The rooftop restaurant has a splendid view - but the food is wickedly overpriced (20 Euros for a chop) and the accompaniments did not appear to be freshly cooked - I detected a hint of the microwave - all very bland. I would suggest eating at the fabulous REX restaurant just down the road - half the price and excellent service.

At the breakfast (a very good selection of hot and cold items), not one member of staff said good morning to any guest that I could see - in fact, they looked as miserable as sin.

The reception area was brightened on our arrival by a very pleasant young man who had attended University in our nearest town in the UK, but the rest of the staff could not have been less helpful - particularly the aforementioned Mikhailis.

All in all, a very negative experience, and all for the princely sum of 200 Euros a night. Absolutely NOT worth it.

Great views and good location by Rincewinds-luggage

We stayed here a couple of nights before going to Paxos for a week and then one night on the way back home. It is a great location with a nice stroll to the centre of the old town and close to the airport and within easy reach of the new port for the boats. It has amazing views from the terrace and we enjoyed the food on our last evening - although the menu is limited it was good quality. The room on the way out was fine - although the air con broke in the first night, which made it very uncomfortable to sleep but the hotel fixed it in the morning. The room on the way back had a better air con system and interesting split level with a 'lounge' area downstairs and double bed and bathroom upstairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Best views in town! by Trolly
8 / 10

We stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and it didn't disappoint. We had a 5th floor sea/fort view room with fantastic views out across the town and towards the fort. The room was very comfortable, the bathroom clean and extremely spacious.

Had a good breakfast the next day with all tastes catered for.

All in all a wonderful old Venetian hotel with the best location and staff who can not do enough for you.

Fantastic !! by Colleen&Simon

We stayed here for 7 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it, we stayed on the 3rd floor, and our room was very clean and big, we had fantastic panoramic views of the town and sea. There is a lift, if the stairs become too much, with the windows closed it is quiet - considering you are right in the middle of town, flick on the AC and you are there, there is a rooftop bar/restaurant we had cocktails at the end of our evening and enjoyed the fantastic views. The breakfast was good and the room formal (as with any hotel) the staff are very helpful and always there ! You might need to hire a car or scooter to get to the beaches, we hired a car and always managed to find somewhere to park, with this we visited Korission Beach, next to Korission Lake and it's superb, quiet and big, complete with a shower !! You must visit Spiros Taverna on the way in - just on the right...you can't miss it. As the flight was just over 2 hours, the 10-15 minute taxi from the airport was wonderful.....around 10 euros. So you are in your hotel in no time ready to start your beautiful holiday...have fun !!

great in parts, seriously lacking in others by irishinnewyork

This hotel has a wonderful location in the old town. The rooms are bright and airy with rather dated bathrooms. My main gripes are the pretty strong odour in the coridoors/elevator and the fact that the heating could not be turned off in the rooms. I ended up with a bedroom temperature of 28 degrees celsius throughout the night and despite a request to the front desk, it remained unchanged. I had to sleep with the balcony door open which for both safety and noise pollution reasons wasn't ideal. The breakfast buffet is not an exciting affair. All in all, a hotel which portrays itself as four star is definitely no more than a three.

Civilised and calm in Corfu Town by Juliana1
10 / 10

We completed a 3 week stay in the Ionian Islands with 2 nights here, as we'd done last year.

It's quiet, traditional ,European in style ,and the streets behind are teeming with good restaurants and eating places. The Old Fort and Esplanade are minutes away, as are good bars frequented by Corfiots as well as visitors.

The management, staff, ambience and rooftop bar and restaurant are excellent, though the food is not too special.

The rooms are not large, the air-con isn't great, but the overall experience is relaxing, pleasant and civilised.

Good stay at Calvalieri by A TripAdvisor Member

Excellent location in Corfu town, though far from beaches - you may want to rent a car or scooter on this large island. We stayed for 3 nights and were treated well. There is a rooftop restaurant with a surperb view and excellent local cuisine; though it is pricey.

Very nice food, and good services.... by J Fish
7 / 10

Very nice food, and good services. Room above average, comfortable. We stayed at Cavalieri Hotel beginning of Jan, we had an enjoyable stay with friendly and helpful service. The bar staff made our holiday really enjoyable whilst outside was rainy, and although the rooms need updating, our overall opinion was favourable.
