Lovely Holiday

My sister-in-law and I stayed at the Dia Apartments and loved the location, 5 minutes away from hersonissos and 10 minutes away up the hill for beautiful greek tavernas. The accommodation is set in lovely gardens and is clean, very well maintained and had everything we needed for our stay. I would definitely go there again.

Oct 2008, Miss A Garnham

Having read some of the other recent reviews for this resort, I am unsure as to whether I visited the same place! We stayed at Dia from the 19th-27th Sept 2008 and couldn't have asked for more. The only quibble I would have with the outbound flights was that we ended up paying £50 for legroom when others were given it free-we arent the type of people that are midgets and insist on having legroom, my partner is 6ft 8!We did arrive at a stupid time in the morning but we chose those flights and it must be accepted that there wont be a full carnival to welcome you!It was lovely to see Angelina's smile first thing in the morning, and her coffee and toasties are fab.I am upset to see the slating Niko has received, as he was lovely whilst we were there-he was chatty and jolly! He unfortunately lost his mother during our stay following illness, yet the day of her funeral he arrived back at the apartments and still had a hello and a smile for everybody. The hospitality at Dia is fantastic and we will be returning next year.Everything we needed was close by, and the walk to the spa isnt as far as other people have claimed-maybe they should have chosen to use the shop right next to the apartments instead. We were disappointed with Hersonnisos itself, finding it to be quite tacky and the restaurants by the seafront had a very unpleasant aroma.I would strongly recommend that if people want to experience true Cretan culture, they visit Piskopiano,Koutouloufari and Old Hersonissos up in the hills. Old Hersonissos is the furthest away taking 20 mins to reach on foot. You will find more restaurants than you could shake your euros at and some lovely shops selling locally produced goods. We did visit Oliva's, and were disappointed with the quality of the food compared to the other surrounding restaurants. Our recommendation would be to spend the 15euros a head in somewhere like Emanuels in Koutouloufari where you will get a far better meal.If you are looking for a relaxing break in spacious, pristenely clean accommodation with friendly staff and a fantastic surrounding area I would certainly recommend Dia.

After reading the reviews before i went on my holiday to Dia Appartments i was abit wary of the owner, but he is ace! i cant believe what some people have said about him! everyone was just laughing when they were around him, he works so hard as does everyone at the hotel. The cleaners are very good and the appartments are gorgeous in the pefect location (if you dont have walking difficulties) 10 up hill lovely quiet taverns 10 mins down main town - fab views from appartments. a real age mix of people stayin here, me and my boyfriend early twenties and we were youngest staying there but we loved our relaxing holiday! 'animal lovers' are also welcome, the Greek is different to english they are wild cats!! i cant believe anyone that compains about this hotel or the people i really rate it! i gave it a 9 because the resort hersonnisos wasnt what i expected - not for holiday makers and the locals dont seem to like you much!
respect to Nikos, Angela & everyone at Dia for all their hard work throughout the summer x x x

Take our advise and dont book with...

Sep 2008, Miss V Henshaw And Hollis

Take our advise and dont book with First Choice if you plan to go to Crete. We arrived at our appartment early hours of the morning, when travelling from the airport to our destination no First Choice Rep was present at any time. A Greek gentlemen greeted me and my partner and carried my case for me as I am disabled, I thought that he was lovely, kind man. My view of this man quickly changed...... On the complex of Dia Apartments it looks extremely clean, beautiful and spacious. We met some fantasic people who made our holiday to be the best yet. As an animal lover I had no problems feeding and loving the cats that roomed the complex. A beautiful grey tabbie cat came to us, we noticed she had kittens. The next day this cat was upset and crying out she was very distressed a gentleman approached and asked if I was feeding the kittens I said no just the mom, he told me that the manager had taken the kittens and dumped them, the kittens were only approx 2 weeks old and would not of survived with out their mother. I am discusted. If you love animals dont visit the Dia Apartments.

We have just returned from a 2 week...

Sep 2008, Mrs L Pennington

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Dia apartments. The whole complex is very pretty and kept immaculately clean. The maids work extremely hard and are very friendly. Nicos the owner and Socrates on the bar are great company and we had a lot of laughs with them.
I would recommend these apartments to all except those with walking difficulties as the walk down to Hersonisos and up to the most picturesque villages, Piskopiano and Koultifari are quite steep. The resturants in these villages are very good particularly Olivas and Davids where you can have typical Greek food with very friendly service. The Greek dancing on a Monday night in Hersonisos old town is a must.
I can't understand the previous comments regarding the cats as surely people don't want to go to a place overrun by them. Nicos was a great host and we would definitely go back again. We have 2 girls (17 and 13) and they thoroughly enjoyed their stay and so did we.

Both my partner and I booked this...

Sep 2008, Mr  C S Melia

Both my partner and I booked this holiday, back in March 2008 due to work issues, we arranged to travel with First Choice in Nuneaton-Warwickshire. there was no problems or issues which the shop could not answer. We arrived at Birmingham Airport on Tuesday 2nd September 2008- after checking our luggage through we went for breakfast which cost £16- very nice, and staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. After breakfast we continued to the gate where we should of boarded the plane, we and many other individuals paid a lot of well earned cash to relax within the Dia Apartments based in Hissonasos based on the brochure pictures and other peoples perspective of Crete, The plane had technical problems, which in the mean time other travellers had been ferried to the aircraft like sheep on the bus filled to beyond capacity. We decided to wait until the next bus as there were a large amount of traveller's going on this flight. About 10 mins later those individuals who were on the first bus were coming back through the gate that we were supposed to be boarding the aircraft which was a huge 3 sectioned plane, Imagine the unorganised display of the travel reps at the airport to whom there seemed in my observation were no delays or problems with the craft, 45 minutes later everyone boarded and we left the uk for greece worried, nervous and prayed that we would all be ok as the information the rep gave us was there is a fault with the left engine. we arrived in crete which was hot and was worth the wait. We collected our luggage and preceded to exit the airport to our transfer coach to the Dia Apartments. I was hungry by this time and it was late at night, we were met by a cigarette smoking first choice rep who pointed out the coach park at Heraklion Airport and told us to look for bus with a number. We finally arrived at our resort with other First choice customers, Both my partner and me were quickly ushered to our apartment by someone, I believe this dreadful man to be the Owner of the resort. I did not get his name, we were not told where any of the amenities were or how to get to them, we met a drunk who f'd and blinded a route to us as we were in need of water and other supplements, The room we were allocated was clean airy and bright, as we were self catering and had a lovely view overlooking the sea, and was on the flight path from the airport, each day we were there we chatted to other resort guests who were in the same mind that the man who run this resort and first choice would of been our last choice in hindsight. we made friends with a lot of lovely ladies on the isle of crete and will be meeting soon for a get together, I was informed that a young cat has had kittens and this man the resort owner has taken them away. for 3 days the young cat mother who by the way was not the least bit of trouble in any way, apart from being upset that her offspring had been Murdered. We are a animal loving couple upset by this dreadful incident and have written to First Choice expressing our concerns regarding the rude travel reps and the Dia apartment team. may I just say Thanks to all the ladies for making our stay as good and rewarding after looking after the young mother cat, and allowing us to be part of their group. many thanks to those that I would consider a friend and look forward to hearing back from First choice in anticipation.

We stayed at the Dia Appartments...

We stayed at the Dia Appartments September 2008
A very rude rep met you as you came out of airport and just pointed in the direction of your coach, Never made the journey with us,
Room was beautiful, Fantastic views, Bar and pool area small, At to be up early to get a sunbed round the pool.
A cat at the appartment had not long had 4 kittens, The owners said they had taken the kittens to a shelter - The whole week of my Holiday I had to listen to this poor cat crying out for her kittens, If you are an Animal lover I do not recommend staying here.
Prices high for drinks and food, Short walk down the hill took you to the town area where it was buzzing with bars & eating places again very pricey. Found a bar called the White Lion did a gorgeous breakfast for under 7 euro
Trips organised by first choice were very expensive, I would recommend shopping around for trips.
If Shopping is your thing be prepared to be followed around shops by the staff, They dont trust anybody.
I will not be visiing crete again - The only good thing I have to say is I met some lovely friends and the weather was hot

It was my 5th time back to this...

It was my 5th time back to this resort but please do not stay here, they are owned by the most rude, miserable, horrible abusive man ever, Nikos!! He ruined our holiday, spent the whole time shouting at people for the slightest thing even telling people off for getting out the pool with wet feet, unbelievable!!
The guy who worked at the bar on a night time was lovely but the manager was just awful. The apartment itself was fine but set on a really steep hill which was very dark at night. The apartments had a friendly resident grey cat who had 4 gorgeous kittens just next to our apartment. One night the manager kicked the cat much to the disgust of all the guests at the bar. We asked on the first day to keep the room on til 6pm as our flight was not until 4.30am the next day, we were told to ask the day before departure which we did only to be told by the equally awful Angela 'no rooms left, not my problem'!! The food was overpriced and vile, everyone was going to the Bellas apartments snackbar directly opposite as the staff were friendly and food was nice. On the way back we were told by First Choice rep to go to desk 19 and 20 at airport so we queued up for ages only to be told when desk finally opened that we should be at desk 21 so we had to join back of another queue for ages, total shambles, and not good after a long tiring day being kicked out of apt at 12noon!! Would never go to these apartments again or travel with First Choice!! I stayed in Koutloufari, Sunrise Apartments in July booked through Kosmar and would def recommend these apartments instead.

Well the apartments are very nice and all, but Nikos the owner is not as friendly as he seems.
I'm a 19 years old and he was bodering me the whole time. One of his staff members told me and my friends that this is commen. The year before a 18 year old girl was working for him behind the bar and he had an afair with her, even thoug he has a wife and a child.
I could never stay around the bar when he was there. He never left me alone I couldn't even walk past without him screaming behind me.
I'm even embarrest to write this. He even said to me his favorite drink is **** juce.
I could not wait to leave the island because of him.
That man ruined my whole holiday.

Me and my boyfriend went for a week...
9 / 10
Aug 2008, Miss G HADLEY-REYNOLDS

Me and my boyfriend went for a week to the Dia appartments and really enjoyed our stay. Everyone was really friendly and laid back. We had a room on the ground floor without a balcony or views over the mountains but instead looked onto the pool area and bar which could get a bit noisy in the evenings but wasnt too much of a problem. The room was basic but comfortable, make sure you bring your own tea towel and washing up liquid! they only give you 2 bath towels which get changed twice a week. The pool was very nice just the right temp for cooling off! We went to the pool area around 9.30 every morning but it did get busy in the afternoon and some people didn't have any sunbeds so make sure your out there early for a good spot! The bar served basic snacks (pizza, toasties) but we found it to be quite expensive (ice cream=3 euros) and tended to buy our own lunch from spar and eat in our appartment. The village of Piskopiano is a walk up hill from the appartment and has a good selection of restaurants we reccommend Oliva's. If you keep walking through you will come to Koutouloufari another small village. Down the hill is more for the nightlife and is really buzzing if you want a good night out. there are lots of shops selling fake designer things and some nice restaurants along the front by the sea but be aware of people asking you in for drinks in the bars saying its buy one get one free as we where charged 13 euros for supposedly 2 drinks! Overall we had a really nice holiday to relax and unwind we would recommend to couples and families.
