I know I may turn out to sound like a simply travel rep but believe me I'm not, so here goes. We returned from kardamili last night having had a fantastic holiday.
The village itself is set on the main road which runs down the western side of the mani peninsula,( it is actually a narrow quite road which twists and turns through the mountainside) right on the coast. It is a very picturesque village with traditional shops and tavernas, it remains in my opinion still very much geared towards the local inhabitants, it does not have the feel or appearance of somewhere over-run by tourists, I think what I mean is it's very tasteful. There is a very good choice within the village of maybe 10-15 different restaurants. Our favourite was definitely LELA'S, simple food beautifully cooked at a very reasonable price, e.g two starters and two main courses, with wine would be no more than 30-35 euro's.
Our cottage was brilliant, one of three set close together down a track of about 100 yards long off the main road, surrounded by olive trees looking up towards the mountains also out to sea. The pool was a great plus, kept very clean. In fairness it's more of a big plunge pool than a swimming pool but you don't know any difference when floating about on the lilo enjoying the sun - we had great weather by the way.
The cottage itself was well kitted out everything you needed, a big open space which had a large stone fire place at one end of the room with a sofa/bed either side, a nice bathroom and a separate double bedroom, all air conditioned.
On arrival we found to our surprise a brilliant welcome pack which included bread, milk, lots of fruit, wine, tea, coffee, etc.
I could go on for sometime but it would become something of a advert, I would however like to make some mention of our rep Amanda, who was very helpful, not least in that she rescued a bag of mine I'd left at the airport, she took care of it when lots wouldn't have and got it back to me, it was a carrier bag with books and sun cream in it nothing to identify it as mine, but she rescued it anyway and brought it to me so many thanks to her for that.
Lastly, there were plenty of towels supplied in the cottage including two beach towels, so there is no need to take any yourself, if you are interested in going to kardamili don't let anyone put you off, it's a lovely place.
