We stayed at the Liakoto for a week during August 2007. We had stayed in Kardamyli some years before (pre children) and hoped to have as nice an experience. The Liakoto was wonderful and in many ways our family experience was better than the first (so that is saying something!!!). A great couple run the hotel who really do take care of you, from the perfect location (overlooking the sea) to the spotless rooms, restful pool area, free internet access and a huge DVD library to enjoy, we really couldn't have asked for more. My only reservation is letting other people know about it!!

I have seriously had to consider whether or not to write this review. Would like to go back year after year and don't want there to be a lack of availability.
The apartments were wonderful, excellent views. The tour company were the best I have ever traveled with. Cold bottles of water and taxis waiting for us on our arrival plus, a range of Greek food and wine in the apartment.
Kardamyli, perfect for anyone wanting a laid back, totally Greek experience. Knowledge of the language is good but not necessary. We ate out in different places every night and were never disappointed. Lela’s bar, near the harbour was excellent and so laid back that there were no menus on tables coupled with sea views to die for we loved it!
Try and look on the 'net' for photographs like I did but, none will come close to portraying the actual experience. Perhaps the Greek are trying to keep this secret themselves.

We have just returned from an excellent holiday staying at Liakoto. The one bed roomed apartments are lovely and offer the advantage of two balconies - one with a view of the mountains and the other with a view of the sea (I think they all have this - ours certainly did). For a small extra cost, I would recommend a one-bed roomed apartment rather than a studio for this reason - studios have only one balcony with the sea view. The highest mountain in the Taygetos range could be seen clearly from the rear balcony of our apartment.
The apartments are well equipped and spotlessly clean. Sheets and towels are changed regularly. There is also a beautiful pool.
The accommodation is close to all of the amenities of the village, which include a wide selection of tavernas - we didn't manage to find a bad one. Food is of a good quality as is the local wine and both are very good value. You may be surprised to find that it is completely safe to drink the tap water, which is piped down from the mountains. At the taverna opposite Liakoto you will find the owner a real character and the food excellent. There is a bakery in the village where you can buy freshly baked bread and pastries. There are also a small selection of gift and antique shops as well as supermarkets within easy walking distance.
If you enjoy walking then there are many beautiful walks that start from the village. These range from easy to more strenuous but there's something for everyone. For the more adventurous there are walks in the mountains and you can climb to the summit of Mount Taygetos (2404m), where you will find the church of Profitas Ilias - a four wheel drive vehicle (and a good head for heights) is necessary to negotiate the mountain tracks up to the start point of the climb.
The accommodation is family-run and everyone is friendly and helpful. We let them know at Reception when and where we were out walking and they checked that we were back safely in the evening.
If, on the other hand, you simply want to relax in a peaceful environment, then this is the place to do it. We will definitely be going back.
It's worth mentioning that we traveled with Simply Travel. Amanda, their representative for the 2006 season, has been there for four years and offers excellent service. She is a lovely lady, very pleasant and helpful but not at all intrusive.

Absolutely wonderful hotel - views of the sea and mountains from all apartments (I think - certainly from ours) - very friendly owners - we’re going back again this year for more.
It’s a quiet village which suits us fine but you'll probably need to catch the bus for a 10 minute trip to Stoupa (a more lively resort - but not as pretty) for better beaches. Kardamyli is a beautiful sleepy village in the Mani - which acts as the starting point for many walks into the mountains. So it’s popular with the hiking types. There are a few REALLY great restaurants too, which is part of the appeal of the place with equally great views to enjoy while you eat. Check out Madame Lela’s and the one opposite the Anniska apartments - fabulous, authentic Greek cuisine.
But if you’re going to stay in Kardamyli - stay at the Anniska - you won’t be disappointed.

Our first trip to Greece and we booked a week at the Anniska Hotel, wish we could have stayed longer as it’s just delightful...............
After arriving at Kalamata airport we got into a taxi for our transfer which takes approx 1 hour.
Our journey took us up into the Taygetos Mountains which are spectacular with stunning scenery then we got our first look glimpse of Kardamyli with its terracotta roofs set against the sparkling sea of the Mediterranean.
We where given a warm welcome on our arrival and shown to our apartment which had been generously stocked with water, wine, bread ,cheese etc and being late afternoon on a Sunday was a wonderful surprise.
Kardamyli has numerous Tavernas all excellent with friendly staff who will patiently explain what you don't understand on their menus also at the far end of the village near the church is a well stocked supermarket and small fresh fish market.
If there is one thing you must do then its to go to Stoupa on the beach bus but go on the 9.40am which takes you through beautiful though remote mountain villages, it takes about 90mins (only 10mins if you just go the normal coast route) and only costs 1.40 euros each, my husband had the use of a local guide!!!!!! Who pointed out and described ancient towers and churches to him even though he can speak no Greek and she could speak no English.
That’s it you've read my review and no doubt many others but to understand everything you have to see for your self this hidden gem which is called the Anniska Hotel - our aim was to find some 'Chill out time' which we did very easy and can't wait to go back and find some more.
