An okay place to stay
We have just returned from a week's break at this hotel. The owner/manager (Dominique) was extremely helpful with frequent emails and was charming when on site. In general most of the other staff were friendly and pleasant, although one or two could perhaps take a little more care with their attitude. This was not particularly off-putting but was noticeable when compared with the other staff. We booked this place on the basis of a favourable review last year in the Independent newspaper, staying in the Tower suite as advised. Normally... more
to be repeated
We stayed 4 nights at San Roque and it was a real delight. Breakfast was served at the pool and was delicious. Dinner, also served at the pool, was simply excellent. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Just one example : while dinner was in principle just one menu, at simple request the food could be adjusted to your taste (including special wishes for vegetarians). The hotel is situated in a small village with many attractive destinations in the neighbourhood (eg wonderful Masca, los Gigantes (dolphin watching), the Teide (great vulcanic... more
Calm, efficient and charming
This is a good hotel. We have just returned froma week's holiday there and we would happily recommend staying there. Our room was highly original, being split-level with the bed accessed via a spiral staircase. The bed itself was firm but comfortable: we slept very well. Our room had two TVs, one for the bedroom area with a DVD player; the other for the sitting area, above a CD player and mini-bar. The bathroom featured a large bath with jacuzzi jets and an over-bath shower which worked very well. The bath, shampoo products are all made by... more
A reaaly nice experience
We have just arrived home from the San Roque Hotel and we just can say that we really enjojed our four days there. The room, the staff , the atmosphere and the place itself made a perfect place. We have been a few timed before in Tenerife and I always lloked at this hotel. This yera, we wanted some relax and no excursions just, books, swimming pool, a bottle of wine... and this is waht we got, so...perfect. One final thing, if you go to Garachico and you wish a nice meal the place is " Casa Gaspar ", I really enjojed ( and... more
Welcoming and comfortable retreat
My wife and I went to San Roque to escape the mid-January blues in London. The weather was not as good as we expected, but to be able to eat all my meals outside when it is freezing at home is some treat. We arrived after midnight due to a delayed flight. It then takes 90 mins to the hotel from Reina Sur. When we arrived we were greeted by one of the very friendly staff. Realising we had missed dinner they had laid a plate of ham, cheese, bread and fruit in our room. A very nice touch. We stayed in the Tower Suite. It is a three... more
Second time unlucky
Found this place last year and loved it so much we returned again. We own and run a restaurant and go for peace and relaxation before the christmas parties start, unfortunately this was not to be, a 22 bedroomed boutique hotel with enclosed courtyards and wooden floors is not condusive to small children and new born babies, of which there were 5 during our stay. The chef has been replaced and the food was terrible, one waitress in particular seemed to think clearing and resetting tables was more important than serving guests, in short... more
A Real Find
An hotel in the Canaries with real character. It has been beautifully restored, with wood in abundance and we were delighted. It is on the north coast of Tenerife and in an untoursity village, this is so unlike the normal vision of the Canaries. Not a fish 'n' chip shop or building higher than 3 stories in sight. Very friendly staff. The restaurant is good value bearing in mind the high quality of the food and wine. Great (much cheaper) local pizza restaurant just down the road too, and some other restaurants along the sea front... more
Most Congenial, Thoughtful Small Lux Hotel Ever Visited
My wife and I are specialists on island vacations (Madeira, Gozo, Mauritius, Mull, Chief's Island (Mombo), Isla Baha; okay, PEI, Hong Kong, Singapore, Key West, Bermuda, Caribbean Islands and our island home, Manhattan). The best of these trips was spent at Reid's which today, as an Orient Express property, is probably far too expensive. Second, Mombo (Bots). Third, San Roque in the Isla Baha. An excellent property. Great French-Spanish family owner-management. Attentive staff. Located in the one of the two or three genuinely... more
Not the Tenerife you might expect
Something of an architectural and design tour de force and all the more surprising for it being in Tenerife. I never imagined having a week on Tenerife, but the village (town?) of Garachico is charming and must be one of the best, if not the best, on the island. Unlike another reviewer, I found the staff at the hotel approachable and helpful. Strangely, it was the other guests who appeared dysfunctional almost without exception. Elegant and spacious bedrooms with some of the most uncomfortable bedroom chairs I have ever experienced!... more
Such a special place San Roque
Spend 3 nights in SanRoque in Nov 2002. Loved the place: great building, architecture and design. Service was perfect incl. the dinner in the evening. Although I'm vegitarian they managed to prepare a perfect meal for me every evening. Breakfast at the pool in the courtyard was a great start of the day. They welcome you with a bottle of chilled white wine in your room. The Venetian plaster in exquisite colours gives the place a warm feeling. Sunbeds are available at the rooftop terrace and pool terrace. Lovely cocktail lounge and 2nd court... more
