We have just had a great week away at the calleta garden. Hotel was tired looking but clean. Rooms cleaned 4 times in a week. We stayed in a stuio but it was a good size and have everything you needed. We were slightly worried about his place after reading the reviews but don't know what people expect for the money!! We were all inclusive. Snacks were basic, Toasties and hot dogs only but they were nice enough. Main meals, not alot to choose from but what was there was good. One night we had Steak and another we had leg of lamb (melted in your mouth=gorgeous). Drinks were god too!! The only down side was the pool but only because the water was soooooo cold, only the kids braved it!!!
Tony was the entertainment and he was a really good bloke. The kids loved him.

Very Good

A group of 4 of us went, mixed age groups (61, 36, 36 and 14 years old)and found the holiday very good.
It was very clean, staff worked hard and very friendly.
Food was fine, something for everyone.
Even the entertainment was O.K. better if you have younger kids but we really enjoyed the holiday.
People have got to understand that you get what you pay for, but the price we paid we were more than happy.
Only downfall you have to set your alarm if you want to get a sunbed, but considering its the only thing you have to do its not that much of a problem.
Would definitely return

  • Advice: recommend taking a walk along the beach near the rocks to feed the chipmunks

Got back on 5th August from a week All Inclusive.
Food was great, always something there for everyone, with a good selection of meat and fish dishes.
We were after a quiet holiday, so Caleta Gardens suited us to a T. However, wouldn't recommend it if you like a bit of night life.
Tony the entertainer seemed to be good with the little kiddies, when it came to my 15 year old, I didn't feel much effort was made. Thankfully the hotel offers free WIFI in the main area, which can also be accessed from certain seats in the bar :) So the youngster was able to entertain himself.
Had the usual karaoke, parrot shows, bird of prey shows, singers. All you would expect from entertainment in a hotel. Bingo every night along with play your cards right. Can add a bit to your holiday if you want to play these games, but we had a little win on the bingo which more than covered the expense.
The sunbeds.... well what can I say.. The hotel has the policy of no booking sunbeds, it's a pity they don't enforce it. People were queuing from around 8am for the sunbeds to be unlocked between 8:30 and 9 just for the chance of getting a sunbed. TBH we gave up hoping for a sunbed, went to beach most days and used lilos for those times we wanted to use the pool.
All in all we loved the hotel, the staff were great, Entertainment was a bit naff, but that's just my opinion, would probably have liked it better if I had been taking younger kiddies.

  • Advice: Take a walk to the beach and forget the pool, unless you want to queue for a sunbed

The Caleta Garden is a basic yet surprisingly efficient hotel thank to their staff who work hard, in particular the cleaners and Tony the enterteiner who is good with the kids.
The hotel is set in a good location with plenty of shops, restaurants and a sandy beach although there is a better one 15 minutes walking just behind the 'Centro Commercial Atlantico'.
Good points: friendly hard working stsff, entertainment for the kids, cleanliness of the rooms and location.
Bad points: Food very repetitive and the cheapest of the cheap ( doesnt help the fact the guests are mainly british so the cuisine suits them: baked beans, burgers, chips, streaky fatty bacon and so on..)but if you are going self catering you could cook for yourself as the apartments have fully equipped kitchens, the sunloungers are old and not enough for all the guests in fact it was quite fun to see a number of people storming around the pool first thing in the morning waiting to grab the first available sunbed, if you think the Germans are bad think again (be quick, you've been warned)
The pool area itself is small and can get crowded at peak times leaving you a few square metres to swim, an other thing that I noticed while staying there is that the adults sometimes were getting overexcited in the water acting more like their kids
I would say that if you have small kids and are on a tight budget and aren't fussy this is the place for you, if you are single or a couple you might want to go elsewhere as there is not much to do.

  • Advice: Don't be fussy or you won't enjoy this hotel

Just arrived back from caleta garden apartments yesterday. Family of 5, self catering! We had a great time! The apartments need modernising but are clean and have all the essentials. The staff are friendly and willing to help. The only trouble is the sun beds, you do have to go down and wait for them but if your there you will get one. You can't expect to turn up mid afternoon and there be free sun beds, this isnt unusual!
The apartments are in a great spot just up the road from all the shops and resturants. But when i say all, i mean the handful that is on the island, theres not that many to be honest. I would definately say this is a relaxin lay by the pool or on the beach holiday. There are also a few excursions and boat trips, we found them to be abit expensive so if you are planning on doing some trips try and take abit extra dosh.
We found a few belting place for evening meals including mambos which is just has you come out of reception, to your left and down the road. That was really nice for breakfast and evening meals esp the free garlic bread. We also enjoyed the slow boat all you can eat chinese resturant over the road from caleta but make sure you dont get mixed up its not the one directly over the road its to the left near the trampolines! We went there twice in our 10 days and is definately worth a try. We also enjoyed the windmill which is english run and does a mean fish chips and peas!
Overall we had a lovely time and it was worth what we paid for it. Me and my mum are already planning on return has the weather is lovely and we have come home with brilliant tans! x

Just arrived back from Caleta Garden on Saturday. The apartments are very dated but are clean, you get what you pay for i suppose. The balcony was disappointing as you didnt get the sun at any time during the day as there was a cold breeze that didnt make it pleasant sitting out.We were all inclusive the food was average not what we're used to back home but there was always something that could get you by.The microwave was in constant use to reheat the food though. The drink was all local stuff as expected so you could drink all night without getting too tiddly lol. There was definitely a shortage of staff as everyone seemed to be having to multi-task,not easy for the males lol.Even though the staff were run off their feet they were all very friendly,Tony the kids entertainer was very good with them.Nice pool but extremely cold, usual story with sunbeds get there early to avoid disappointment. One couple had a bit of bother with a Moroccan who stole a camera from the females bag. There were another 2 who appeared a couple of nights later and they were trying to suss out who was a bit worse for wear so just be careful and don't leave yourself vulnerable to these chancers. If you fancy a change of venue for eating out do not i repeat do not go to the Indian resturant 22 at the bottom of road beside roundabout it is AWFUL!!If you fancy an Indian i was told the metropolis was very nice. All in all the hotel is ok if you're not too fussy but we wouldn't go back.

comments on hotel and Caleta town

This family holiday for 4 adults @ Caleta Gardens hotel was found by my clever daughter on the internet (18th Dec to 1 Jan) two one bedroomed flats, self catering, great flight times £1667 total. Rooms were well furnished as was kitchen. Clean towels everyday and beds made. We did not partake of the hotel meals or the evening entertainment. Some noise from aircraft but being December flights were not too intrusive.
Plenty of good restuarants in the town-cost circa 15 euro for main evening course but cheaper available. The place for genuine Spanish tapas is without a shadow of a doubt is El Burladero Taberna next door to the tourist burea and the police station. You must, must try this taberna and practice your Spanish with the locals who use this taberna with enthusiasm. Individual tapas at 2.5 euro a dish is tremendous value and genuine Spanish cooking. The Blues Bar is great for cocktails as well as music blues music
I found great reluctance in changing pound sterling traveller's cheques for euro in the majority of banks. The best exchange rate being a Spanish bank in nearby Atlantic City complex. Best take cash-euros or sterling and hire safe box.
Public transport round the island was acceptable in terms of frquency and cost though car hire is to be recommended if you can afford it. I couldn't plus brain is too fossilised to adjust to driving on right at my age. Summer time travel might not be fun on the well designed public buses. Roads are excellent-smooth and well signposted even to small villages thanks to EU subsidy from we British. Daft aren't we when we have pot holes back in the UK! The Museo de Salt with teak floorboards was built with a 15 million EU grant to which we British contributed and they charge 5 euro entrance. Not worth a visit but walk round the outside and see the overstaffed place doing little business from October to March.
Carleta is so, so clean, pavements swept daily, no discarded rubbish in the gutters and welcomed absence of chewing gum stuck in the pavements. Must be a different class of Britains who vist the place compared to those who visit Chester or any UK town/city spewing gum everywhere they walk. Cars keep to the 20 mph rule in the town religiously and anticipate your using the pedestrian crossings. Excellent!
The capital town Puerto del Rosario is but 20 years old, about the size of Shrewsbury and has 3 tourist bureaus. Corralego in the north has four such bureaus. There are delightful beaches near Corralejo fit for surfing and places where nudist hang out in more senses than one. Busy town with good snack bars and interesting architecture from the 1930s.
Tried to walk to an extinct volcano but lost our way plus tough walking boots needed.
Overall an island that so far has avoided what Malta and mainland Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece have done ie. permitted holiday complexes building to the edge of cliffs and even onto beaches so coastal path or beach walking are impossible. Island is well worth a visit and Carleta for families has much to offer.

Frankly, as we pulled up to the hotel I was not impressed. We booked in (very nice and polite desk clerk) and dragged our bags up a flight of stairs (the lift wasn't working) and got to our room (a studio apartment). However, when we got in to the room my heart started to dance again! The room, though not wide, was spacious enough with a clean bathroom (shower and toilet) 2 decent beds (long enough for me at 182cm) a small kitchen area and a decent sized living area. All very clean although showing its age. The balcony (more on this later) overlooked the swimming pool. We were booked in for full board so we trotted down to the dining room. Again my heart slowed as we entered a slightly tired looking restaurant but yet again I was wrong to doubt the place. Good, simple food, some cooked as you watch. The staff helpful and happy. Excellent. After a good night's sleep we had a hearty breakfast and were set up for the day. The only problems were a day's problem with mosquitoes (not the hotels fault and they did supply a can of spray when they found out) and the sun never made it to our balcony. This is the only real complaint we can make about the hotel. I am sure that during the high season the sun will make it to the balcony but not in November!

What a fantastic holiday and apartment, we stayed there for a week in October 2010. The rooms were clean and functional, the pool was a good size and clean. The staff were all polite and helpfull. Tony the entertainment rep was friendly and had different things on every night ( but Sat his night off).We were central to all the resort had to offer and it had a secret jacuzzi on the roof for adults only with sun terrace and beds to keep away from kids. We are definately going back as soon as we can. Just one criticism, the microwave in our apartment was above head height which is a safety hazard but apart from that what a fantastic place.

After reading the reviews I was a bit worried but I shouldnt have been, hotel is clean staff are friendly, food could be a bit hotter but there is a microwave so no problem.
My only down side was that we were all inclusive 2 adults and 2 16 year olds.We had to go out every night to The Flower of Scotland Bar (fantastic night out)and we spent a fortune if going go self catering or half board.Tony trys his best but it really lacks on night time entertionment apart from that really enjoyed everything about Caleta de Fuste.
