A last minute (day before) break...
6 / 10
Aug 2004, fairenoughclough

A last minute (day before) break booked through First Choice for £400 less than a similar break to Gran Canaria.
A few days into the break I found I’d paid about half the rate quoted by a chap in conversation at the bar.
Temperatures were high 85-95F, although a gentle breeze coming from the sea made gentle exercise comfortable.
Bar prices at the apartments were higher than I’d expected for a ‘duty-free’ island, but careful scheduling to meet with the twice-daily happy hours lessened that blow.
Other bar prices were considerably lower, approx 60-70% of apartment bar prices.
Very good selection of Bars showing English football and eventually I even found one showing our glorious whopping of the West Indies at cricket.
Very good selection of restaurants Chinese, Indian, Greek, English and even the much hated American fast-food joint, prices varied but tended to compare very well to English Prices.
Found the apartment rooms very good and spacious, but we did have two apartments between two adults and two teenage boys and as we found out while we were there they were apartments for 3/4, this should be the case. We would have been very cramped in one apartment.
Noise levels were quite high at nighttimes due to the two bars which are physically part of the apartment block but are run by others, 1 a very interesting Dutchman!
The Pool was pleasant, although there was the daily scrabble for loungers with the stereotypical towel placement going on at some ridiculous hour in the morning.
The resort itself is not yet fully developed and work is still going on building more accommodation. Noise levels from the construction were not noticeable from the apartments however and I was told they are rushing to finish works to meet an impending deadline set by the tourist board apparently, although nobody knew exactly when the deadline was.
The local supermarkets were poor, with little choice and high prices and it was worth the taxi fare to travel approx two miles to the small hypermarket on the edge of town for any but the most basic shop.
Shopping was good for gifts, particularly electronics goods, but watch out for sharp operators in the shops.
If you’re planning a video camera purchase for example, research UK prices first and they will beat prices by 40-50%, the rules of bartering however allow wide differences in prices between shops and the under prepared beware.
For some reason they try to charge about 10x the going rate for digital video tapes!
A holiday destination not suited for the adventurous, after 3-4 days adventuring on the island you have done it!
Best-suited to the traveller that likes their comforts within easy travelling distance and enjoys the pool and beach.
All-in-all a good holiday for the price.

Me and my family enjoyed our stay at Caleta Gardens so much we are booking again next year.
Every thing you will ever need is so close and the staff at the place, well, they really made us feel at home. Fran our receptionist always had a smile for every one he greeted and my kids adored him. Even the maids were really friendly.
If I had the money I would move out there, as every one is so laid back its wonderful and peaceful.

Fantastic family holiday. Good clean room and the maids are fantastic if you need any extras just ask them.
The pool is great for the kids and also the kids club with Natalie, Paul and Louis was brilliant. Are kids are 10,9,and 2 and there was something for all of them.
There is a bar call the Havana at the side of the hotel with a really good happy hour (which is at the same time as the kids club!!! handy!!!) There is also a big playground to the side so you can watch them while you are having an evening drink and everyone’s happy!!
This was our second time staying here and I would definitely go again. The beach is clean and golden and I would recommend the beer garden for a quick snack at lunch time. We love this place and I think you will too!! Happy hols!!!
Also on the way to the airport Natalie from the kids club came on the coach and she kept our kids entertained while we were checking in she was singing and doing clapping games with them she really made their holiday. Thank you Natalie!!

I stayed at Caleta Gardens in Caleta De Fuste, and was self catering. I would just like to say if anyone is recommending going there, I think you should, because it was the best holiday, it was so much fun! Theres always things to do, so many people to meet, I made a lot of friends which I am still in contact with now. They’re so friendly. Caleta De Fuste has loads of different shops to go to, and there quite cheap, theres loads of restaurants! And also where my apartment was only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach!
The apartments where quite small, but there was enough room, as I was with 2 children and my parents, the staff are very friendly and always there to help, maids are fantastic, theres night entertainment, a pool which is cold! A Jacuzzi and a sauna which you have to pay for (the sauna only), dont worry its not much! And theres a park just on the side of the apartments, and also a kid zone, to keep the kids away from the parents for a bit! Its great for the whole family! Well I enjoyed myself a lot, if you go there hope you have a great time!

I went on this holiday with my husband and 18-month-old daughter and had the best holiday we’ve had. It was with Thompson Superfamily and it really was. The whole resort is set up for families.
The apartments were clean and well maintained but I would recommend requesting a high floor as the ground floor is below street level with steps inside and got very stuffy but the high floors were very cool. Also the rooms overlooking the pool were very noisy at night from the disco so recommend a quiet room. I can recommend room 316 - 1 bed apartment on top floor, corner room with very large balcony and bigger living room.

I went on holiday here with my family, our girls were 9 and 12 yrs we had a fab time. It was the first time abroad for the girls and they loved it. The resort is brilliant, lot to do, lots of fabulous eating places and a good selection of water sports. My husband enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at Caleta Gardens, the staff were great, good with the kids and the Thompson folks were good too. We will definitely go back in a couple of years to see how the resort is developing.
The service at Caleta Gardens was very good and the rooms were clean. The only thing I will say is the sun beds were hogged by other peoples towels and they were not using the beds until the afternoon, very selfish but hay the general public are nowadays. We didn’t really enjoy the pool days when we had to go poolside 30mins before it opened to get a bed that wasn’t hogged...
Not the staffs fault.
We found the facilities for guests who had late return departures very good to and DJ Al and Vicky are great...go, enjoy and remember!

well to start off I am only 13 and at the time I was 9 and it was the best holiday I have ever been on when they say it is a super family holiday they mean it, it is a lovely place with clear beaches. in the brochure it mentions a bit of noise from clubs and it is very windy but the light breeze is very nice to have and the noise is not to loud.
*apartment*
the apartment was quite small but big enough I stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment and there was plenty of space. the maids kept everything nice and clean and were very helpful.
*pool*
the pool was just the right size not too small and not too big @ some times it got a bit crowded but nothing to worry about. But in the morning it is quite hard to get a sun bed but there is a bar right next to the pool where my mum and dad stayed.
*accommodation*
around the complex were a series of shops and bars leading up to the beach if you intend on eating out I would recommend the Mexican just down the road, there are lots of things to do and is great for the kids
*beach*
the beach is about 5 minutes walk strait ahead. with nice sandy beach and lovely clear sea. it is very child friendly and a very nice place to visit.
when you are walking around you will notice a photographer walking around from the krazycorner shop. They take lovely pictures and is nice to find out what they look like if you go inside the shop all the photos will be displayed.
if you are looking for a family holiday with younger kids this was the best one I went to. My family has been to this apartments twice and have never had a problem.
