We thought we had picked a good...
1 / 10
Aug 2007, Mr Lp Fallon

We thought we had picked a good standard of accommodation.
Wife sobbed when we walked in the room, topless fridge thick mould, filthy paint work, stains up walls, cracked tiles on floor, thick dust on door frames and anything higher than a work top. Broken furniture.
We complained 2 mins after arrival. Staff were very good at ignoring customers with real issues. Rep could do nothing, on last day demanded that hotel management looked at our room, gave a good guided tour of everything that was broken and dirty, they agreed it was bad. They instantly gave us offered us some compensation, hoping it would make us happy. It did not.
The pool area was cluttered with broken sun beds, I counted 10 umbrellas. Half did not work. The water was milky white, un like the other hotels it was crystal clear. The pool was not cleaned and was disgusting at times, I contacted reception, and they were not bothered.
We were not facing the pool, we were lucky enough to face the main road. None of us slept through the night once, we expect noise. But this was a joke. When all the happy holiday makers cleared the streets about 3.30...at 4.00 the deliveries would start. I know them all so well now. First the bread man, then the ice man, then the do-nut man, then the bin men, then the cash men it went on and on till 6.30.
Our loo did not flush for 4 days; we used the shower head to flush.
In some areas like where we were, there’s no actual roof, it only rained once while we were there, and it makes the corridors death traps. If it was in England it would of been closed down due to health and safety reasons.
It was the crappiest place I have ever stayed; I can’t believe that this place is being used by any company that values its customers. It’s made my wife ill, kids don’t feel like they have had a break, I’m exhausted from trying to get things sorted.
No one wanted to help, reason being, there was nothing they could do we were lumbered, £3.000 down the drain. Do not book this hotel, we read the reviews and it sounded good. Its not. Other people who liked must be mental, or blind. It’s the pits.
Good luck if you’re going here. My advice is, if you’re going there, make sure you complain, if no one does then nothing will ever get sorted.
The place was closed down for a while and it was used as residential, then for some reason it was changed back. If you speak to the English bar staff in the pubs outside, they will tell some stories. It’s always been bad it seems.
I could go on and on.....don’t go there.

My husband and I stayed at the Caleta...

Aug 2007, Mrs J Woolliscroft

My husband and I stayed at the Caleta Gardens for Xmas and New Year.
We found them basic but clean. Maids came 5 days a week. Pool was clean. I cannot comment on any food as we ate out all the time.
The resort was great, all the bars restaurants and cafe you want. A great stroll to the harbour took 25 mins with the beech only 5 mins away. Everything is to hand and everyone is friendly. We found "legends bar" a good night if you like old music.
For a lovely breakfast we went between the "Sportsman" and "the Trafalgar" they were as good as each other. If you want a bar that is open till 3am I cannot remember the name of it but it is the only one opposite "Suzy’s bar" the Chinese restaurants were fantastic and very reasonable too.
Overall we had a brill time and we are going again this New Year.

Booked accommodation on arrival, yet...
6 / 10
Jul 2007,  F Davies

Booked accommodation on arrival, yet paid a lot of money for a week so was quite disappointed when we first arrived. The room was dark and shabby, the green paint work needed to be redone and the balcony overlooked a street where building work was being done. We asked to move and were moved to another room overlooking the pool which was much better. Saying this the room still needed updating. The fridge was rusty, the freezer didn't work and the shower had a tendency to go scalding hot at regular intervals.
Breakfasts were good but dinners were not. We expected to eat in the restaurant most nights but found the food very bad. We had to eat out most nights.
On the other hand the staff were very friendly and accommodating (excluding the receptionist who I never saw smile) especially the bar staff. The pool area is good although many of the sun beds were broken and so you could not sit up on them. The rooms are regulary cleaned and there is nightly entertainment.
Overall the apartments are ok. They are badly in need of modernising but they are fine if you go self catering and want basic accommodation in a really good location. I would not recommend you go half board.

Don't listen to all the bad reviews -...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss A Smith

Don't listen to all the bad reviews - the place was wonderful!
The room was basic but very clean. We paid 12E for the TV which has English channels as well as Spanish. The channels include BBC 1, ITV 1, Sky One, Eurosport, The Hollywood Channel (a movie channel - the movies are in English but announced at the beginning in Spanish - don't be put off by this!).
Sky News (which we found very useful as a lot happened in Britain during our holiday - 27th June until 4th July!). Tiny Pop (a children's channel) and a few Spanish channels.
We had a great time watching the Spanish equivalent of GMTV and I'm A Celebrity Get Me out Of Here!
The balcony was great. It overlooked the bar and games area, but it wasn't too noisy!
It received a lot of sun during the day.
The staff at the reception are lovely. They'll do anything they can to help you and they made us feel very welcome straight away.
We went half-board so on the first day we had breakfast and an evening meal in the hotel. The food was ok, but not brilliant. I advise you eat in the many surrounding restaurants.
The pool area looked lovely but we prefer the beach, so we didn't stay around the pool.
There is a pool bar which also serves snacks such as sandwiches.
There is a games room in the hotel. We didn't go in there but we could see it from our balcony.
There is entertainment, but we didn't stay for any of it so I can't really review it.
There are two computers in the reception area. They have internet access which costs 1E for ten minutes (the minimum) and 2E for twenty minutes (the maximum).
There is a small shopping centre next to the beach, called the "Castillo Centre", it has everything you need - a supermarket, souvenir shops, restaurants and bars.
We took a walk on the last day and came across a brilliant shopping centre. It's on the main road about 20 minutes away.
I wish we found it sooner. It had amazing gift shops, a games arcade for the kids, a cinema, and lots of restaurants.
The jewellery shop called "Bijou Brigitte" was definitely my favourite. The jewellery and accessories were beautiful and so were the prices! I bought 5 items for 20E!
The beach was stunning, but it was very windy and the sea was freezing. It was perfect for sunbathing though because you could sit there for hours without getting swelteringly hot and still catch a tan!
Our favourite restaurant was "Mambo" which about a minute away from Caleta Gardens (turn left). The staff were funny and friendly and the food was spectacular!
Some other good restaurants include The Slow Boat and Fado Rock.
The weather was good - cloudy and windy in the morning but it opened out at about 1 o clock every day. It was sunny and very warm from then onwards.
The planes fly quite low overhead but it was nice to watch them and we even made a game out of it - guess the airline!
If you're looking for a lot of nightlife you won't find it, but it is ideal for couples and families.
Would I go back there? Of course!

May 2007, Miss M Stephenson

I loved this holiday, was one of the best ever. The staff are fantastic, really nice to get on with.
The hotel is nice and clean, the sun is hot all day which I loved. The hotel over all I'd definitely give 10/10.
The entertainment is a little on the downside, but you make your own entertainment there is many family bars around the complex.

Have just returned from the Caleta...
8 / 10
Apr 2007, clarkey162

Have just returned from the Caleta Gardens and after booking the accommodation and flights independently, was rather concerned at some of the reviews I read.
This I should not have been, its ideal for those looking for a cheap apartment that’s clean, well equipped and lovely surroundings.
The pool was very clean as was the rest of the grounds. Had no problem with the staff, very friendly and willing to help as well as the bars around the corner i.e. Havana and Tropical.
The entertainment was ok, bit like butlins but hey there are plenty of other bars that have evening shows laid on that are free, so didn’t find it a problem.
Beach ok, yes it is manmade but me and 2 young boys didn’t find it as bad as I had read. Rocks are great for crabbing and paddling when the tide comes in, so do the fish!
Many English bars showing the normal sports and soaps, but mixed in amongst them I found many nice Spanish run bars and restaurants offering quality food.
Harbour is great with a nice long non-motorized path running for miles that’s great to stroll - and safe.
Don’t be put off by reviews, worst part was coming home!

Very basics apartments, security was...
7 / 10
Apr 2007, Mrs G Grieves

Very basics apartments, security was a big issue.
Door left open a few times by maids and had to ask for additional lock to be fitted to patio door because door had been forced and wouldn't lock.
No activities for children at all.
Apartments in very good location for bars, shops and restaurants.
Breakfast in restaurant in apartment’s excellent value for money because you can go back for more.
Restaurant down the road on your left out of the apartment’s excellent value for money.
The apartments were cleaned everyday apart from a Sunday and staff were very friendly.
I would recommend this apartment to people with teenagers, who don't need very much entertaining during the day and at night.
Overall the holiday was enjoyable but would not go back again.

Prisoner Cell Block H would be a more...
1 / 10
Apr 2007, Ms C Simpson

Prisoner Cell Block H would be a more apt name for these apartments.
We didn't expect anything out of this world for the money we paid however this is, without doubt, the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
All studios are below ground level which means that the "balcony" is actually a cave that receives approximately one square metre of sun for no more than three hours a day.

We asked to move rooms and were told we could upgrade for the equivalent of £70 or return the next day to see if there was a more suitable studio available.
We dutifully returned only to be told that all studios were the same ,so I've no idea why they asked us to return the next day - probably hoping we wouldn't bother.
We did notice that there were apartments overlooking the pool which looked nice and caught plenty sun but apparently they were all full.
The upgraded room was straight above the studio we were in so would not have received much more sun, so we stayed where we were thinking we would just make the use of the roof top sun terrace.
The terrace did receive plenty of sun but the amount of sun loungers available was limited, and they were all broken, also the whole area was like a building site with tools and planks of wood lying about and everything was covered in thick dust.
We decided to spend most of our time outwith the hotel as we were so disappointed so not sure how good / bad the entertainment was, although we did notice the bar prices were a bit steep.
When we booked this holiday it was a tossup between these apartments and the Broncemar Beach the prices were very similar. We passed the Broncemar and it looked lovely so take our advice - go there instead!!
The resort itself is quiet but plenty of pubs and places to eat.
A 20 minute walk or short bus / taxi ride takes you to a new shopping complex with a cinema that shows at least one English speaking movie a day.
Please don't forget to look for the chipmunks, we spent ages feeding them they are so tame it is unbelievable.

Excellent quality/price ratio. Basic...

Mar 2007, Mrs D Dabadie-Meissner

Excellent quality/price ratio. Basic kitchen equipment, but for the price we paid, it's more than OK.
Very important tip : don't accept any apartment near the entertainment room. You hear their stupid music till midnight. If you want to cook and buy some food, go to the supermarket Eurospar in "el Centro Atlantico".
You have a free shuttle from Caleta centrum or 20 min. walk from the hotel Caleta Garden. Suitable for seniors and families with young children. Sure, I'll come back next year.
Have a good trip!

This place needs some money spending...
2 / 10
Jan 2007, Mr C Essame

This place needs some money spending on it! On first appearances it is OK but within a short time you can see that it needs repairing and updating.
On our first (and only) night here the bed leg fell off as I got into it, dumping me on the floor. We reported this first thing the next morning but by tea time nothing had been done.
The fridge was rusty, cupboard doors were just hanging on, taps were just floating free of the wall, the lift was bashed about, painting had been done in the room by someone who was obviously not a painter, the beds were hard and when we tried to replace the lost leg we could see the frames were rusty.
The bath was chipped and stained. Furniture was basic and the first studio we were put in was like a prison cell with a tiny "terrace" with no view and very little natural light.
The walls are paper thin, the bar area was dark and had been "enhanced" by a piece of artwork made of old rope and spray paint!
The published details warned of some night time noise from the bar - but this noise started at about 2.30pm with amplified children's entertainment in the bar - this was the final straw and we left!

Fuerteventura is one of the most...
10 / 10
Dec 2006, Mr S Friel

Fuerteventura is one of the most amazing places I've ever been too and believe me, that's a lot of places.
We stayed for a week at the Caleta Garden apartments which had excellent apartments, wonderful entertainment and the best staff you will ever meet.
The apartments were simple but nice. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, especially this one guy at the bar, who was really funny and good with kids, but I can't remember his name! But overall the best were the shows at night! They were all amazing and the best was the hypnotist.
They weather was amazing, one day it reached 43 degree's. We took a day away from the pool and went to Oasis Park which was worth every penny. There was bird, reptile, seal shows and a fantastic Zoo.
Caleta Gardens is central in Caleta de Fuste, there are many bars and restaurants to go to, like the very busy steak house! If you want to eat food that is 100% British go to legends bar were you get your normal cheese burgers and chips or a pizza pie, it’s up to you.
It's located opposite the apartments and has sky coverage of all the big footie games, there is usually one on every night and the soap's e.g. Eastenders.
For the best holiday day you could imagine, I advise you to go to Caleta Gardens.
You'll never forget it!

We stayed at the Caleta Garden...
8 / 10
Dec 2006, Mrs C Hanson

We stayed at the Caleta Garden Apartments which was a last minute holiday, the apartments were right in the centre for easy reach for all bars and restaurants.
The apartments were nice but basic, clean bedding and towels every day and the staff were pleasant and friendly.
What we liked about the apartments was the roof top sunbathing. It was for adults only so nice and peaceful. There was a quiz and pool side games on an afternoon and evening entertainment, but we preferred to go around the bars.
The bars and restaurants were more or less in a square of streets and the beach was only 5 minutes away, the first bar was right across the road next to a bank, so no problem if needing any money.
Favourite bar was Pieros live entertainment every night and stayed open until 3.00, you must try O'Connors the Irish bar and Steak restaurant especially if you enjoy steak.
We had to go and see our Rep at the Barcelo Hotel a 4* which is central if you prefer a hotel rather than an apartment.
If you do decide to go make sure you are near the town and not Chipmunk Mountain which is uphill.
There is bars and restaurants but not as many as where we stayed. We thought it was to far out of the way, especially if you need a bank or shops as you would have to go back to town. The only shop I saw at Chipmunk was a supermarket. There were really nice leather, jewellery and clothes shops in the town.
We would definitely recommend the resort and the Caleta Gardens, had a brilliant holiday.
