" The hotel is a little oasis in the... "

The hotel is a little oasis in the busy city of Seville.

Our taxi pulled up at a very ordinary looking building in a tiny backstreet, the garish hotel sign and collection of bins were very off putting but our fears were soon put to rest once we walked into the lovely Moorish styled air conditioned reception - an oasis of calm. The staff were lovely and helpful and the welcome juice was very welcome after all the flight delays.

We had booked on a room only basis (we didn't read the small print properly, all Expedia bookings at the San Gil are on a room only basis we discovered) but we opted to enjoy the well stocked buffet breakfast for an extra 12 euros each and there was plenty of choice for a wheat intolerant bod like me.

The pool was best part and the main reason we booked the San Gil in the first place. The hotel provides big fluffy towels and there are plenty of loungers and if no umbrellas were available the staff quickly find spare and in July you really need shade as the pool area is a definite sun trap. The water is kept beautifully clean and is very welcome after a hard days sightseeing.

The Cathedral and castle are about a 20-30 min walk away but there are many beautiful churches to inspect on the way. And most importantly, the oldest (I think) and best tapas bar is enroute, El Rinconcillo - it is a must!

Our room was very spacious and most importantly air conditioned. My only complaint would be it was not a room where you could afternoon siesta, it was just too noisy, this was because it opened onto the atrium that people used on the way to the pool and it had a glass paneled wall and door which was not double glazed.

I would definitely stay at the San Gil again but this time would request a room not opening on to the atrium.
