Hacienda de San Rafael

We stayed at the Hacienda de San Rafael for 2 nights, April 26-28,2006. Two nights were definitely not enough. What a lovely property!!!!!!!! Perched on a hill surrounded by 300 acres of gently rolling landscape,the vistas were remarkable. We were celebrating our 24th anniversary so we booked one of the three casitas. The only way I would describe our trip to Hacienda de San Rafael was that it was perfect, or near as damn it (as my mum would say). The two young girls that oversee the running of the hotel make sure your every whim is catered for. They even think of things you don't realise you want until provided. The accommodation is luxurious and stylish and the food is exciting and delicious. 10 days in Andalucia - stayed at three Hotels and have posted reviews of them all - Hacienda San Rafael, La Fuente de la Higuera and La Posada del Torcal. Have put the reviews together as this may be useful if you are thinking of travelling to Andalucia. In my opinion, this small intimate owner operated hideaway is one of the top private hotels in Spain. It offers a highly personalised attention to service and stikes a a good balance between rustic charm and modern sophistication. We took all three casitas over with a group of friends, which was ideal as we had our own separate garden and private infinity pool. The Hotel is situated in a delightful setting and the buildings are typical of the area with alovely court yard ( with rooms off) which are very pleasant. My only complaint, following a recent visit is that in such a slendid Hacienda one would have expected a first class Spanish experience. Instead we might as well have stayed in an English country house hotel. The owner is English, the Chef is English, the food is English and all the guests were English. If one enjoys the ExPat thing its a great place to stay
